This is a colossal fuck up.
amazing.
they had a great build up of two fighters, two great stiff athletes, and they monkey it up by having their most popular guy team up with Abyss to beat down Angle...
hilarious.
and stupid.
why?

Because Joe isn't a face or heel for starters. He's completely self motivated storyline wise so he does what's best for Joe. Sometimes that means he teams up with the good guys and sometimes he teams up with the bad guys.
The Angle thing has been completely within character for him. Abyss provided him a chance to get at Angle so he took it. Simple as that.
Even during the Jarrett/Joe feud from September. Joe went out of his way to suck up to the fans. Why? Because that gave him an advantage in the match stipulation.
Same with when he teamed with Sting in the spring. He was all buddy buddy to Sting and would've defended him from would be attacks. But once the match was over and Joe got his he left Sting out to dry.

well if that's true that's pretty dumb booking. no wonder no one is watching TNA. That's pretty much true. Joe has been booked very inconsistently. It was clear TNA brought him in to be a heel, breaking the "Code of Honor" of the X division and busting open Chris Daniels. But the fans kept cheering him. Then he turned on Sting. Fans kept cheering him, but then he feuded with Steiner as basically a face, which seemed like his full-fledged turn, but then he feuded with Rhino and Monty as a tweener.. Honestly, i got nothing. If you follow TNA's booking, Joe has been booked as a real bad-ass. But that's about it as far as consistency. Hes been yanked up and down the card, pushed to the moon and then put on the backburner, treated as a star and then kepot his "unbeaten streak" through 3-Ways, etc. TNA's main problem has been its booking.

Why is it so surprising that a "face" would go "heel" so unexpectedly. The Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, HBK, Hogan, Andre the Giant.....they all flipped in a matter of one televised episode. TNA is just trying to boost the ratings and give their fans something to talk about. And, according to this thread....its working. With Sting, Styles, The Dudleys, and now Angle, TNA needed somebody that the fans could love to hate. Samoa Joe fits that description perfectly

talking about it? there are 5 people here and one of them is neilbybob. I find it hard to believe their show would have gotten a worse buy rate had they just kept Joe vs. Angle a match between two popular, stiff, intense, great athletes with pride on the line...
now it's just a fat bad guy vs. an old good guy. yawn.

Samoa Joe is one of the best wrestlers in the world... hard to screw up with this guy... and TNA has managed to do so fantastically.
