by Alan Wojcik
The following are the live spoilers of the two TNA Impact tapings leading to the October 22nd Bound For Glory PPV. Today has been billed as the TNA debut of the one and only Kurt Angle in the form of an interview during hour one that we didnt see in the building and in arena appearance in hour two. Dixie Carter sat in the crowd during hour one and gave some lucky kids free TNA DVDs. Vince Russo stood near my seating location and watched the event. Scattered around the building were signs reminding fan that Impact will be moving to 9pm eastern on November 16th possibly the date of the in ring debut of Angle. Best wishes to Kevin Sullivan who is back in Nashville sick.
Matches and interview segments to air October 12th
Before opening Jeremy Borash found NWA World Heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett as he exited Jim Cornettes office saying, Some fights arent worth fighting. The introduction played. In the ring was the man holding the NWA World Heavyweight title belt Samoa Joe. Joe said it seemed the jackass who normally caries the title gets time to talk so its his time to speak to the fans. He said his mission at Bound for Glory was to survive the Monsters Ball match. Joe decided to tell the people why he has possession of the belt that belongs to Jarrett, because the fans have seen the belt hostage by the worst of men. From paper champions going back four years in TNA, Joe felt the belt finally deserves respect. Joe ran down a list of champions who held the belt in the past that treated the belt as a testament to being the best. Joe said he would surrender the belt to the winner at Bound for Glory on the condition it came with a title shot. This brought out Captain Charisma Christian Cage who was dressed to compete. He said he couldnt help but over hear the paper champion comment. Joe said to set Cages mind at ease Jarrett was number one on the list and Cage was close second. Cage said no one bought Joe as a champion but they bought him as a Samoan Elvis impersonator. Joe called Cage a jackass which made Cage fire back that Joe has beaten everyone except one person, Christian Cage. Cage said tonight he would get the belt back that was stolen from him by Jeff Jarrett tonight in a match with the belt suspended above the ring in a ladder match.
Mike Tenay and Don West told the home fans about the matches they would see this evening. Jeremy Borash spoke to the Latin American Xchange about the Six Sides of Steel match at Bound For Glory when AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels jumped them, bringing the fight out to the ring. Hotstuff Hernandez was busted open when his head was smashed against a locker backstage. The fight went around ringside and over to the Spanish broadcasting table where part of the cage was set up. Konnan padlocked the portion of the cage keeping Styles away from Daniels. By this time TNA security had worked their way around the back of the fencing to try and stop the damage done to Daniels.
Mike Tenay and Don West again spoke to the home fans.
(1) The Future Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Shark Boy defeated World X Division champion Senshi, Alex Shelley, Hotshot Johnny Devine and Petey Williams.
Shelley spit water in Lethals face before locking up. The two men traded moves until Shelley grabbed Lethals package and squeezed. Williams came in but met a hip toss that allowed Shark to tag in and bite Williams behind. Devine and Dutt came in with Dutt hitting a standing moonsault. Senshi came in while the referee wasnt looking and decked Dutt. Williams said OCanada as he stood on Dutts package and other violence occurred on tags with Devine but Dutt hit a backward huricurana. Dutt tagged Sabin as Devine tagged Shelley. All eight men got in the ring but Shelley suffered defeat at the hands of Lethal, Dutts standing shooting star press and Sabins rolling pin.
After the match ended Kevin Nash came on the screen to say the X Division is at an all time low. Nash said he would have a press conference next week for the Kevin Nash X Division open challenge gauntlet battle royal match to be held at Bound For Glory.
(2) Lance Hoyt and Ron the Truth Killings defeated Diamonds in the Rough (Prime Time Elix Skipper and David Young w/Simon Diamond).
The Diamonds sent Killings to the floor as he did his break dance routine and attacked Hoyt with double team moves. Hoyt had to fight out of a chinlock stretch from Skipper but Young was tagged in. skipper hit a drop toe hold but Young missed a dropkick to Hoyt which made Skipper call him out in the middle of the match. As they argued Hoyt hit a clothesline and tagged in Killings. Killings hit the Diamonds with a dropkick. Hoyt came in and clotheslined Young to the floor as Skipper was pinned by Killings sunset flip style. Young and Skipper exchanged heated words after the match. Shockingly Diamond threw his jacket at Skipper and left them in the ring. Young and Skipper had words before Skipper was left alone and Killings said something to him. Could we have seen the end of the Diamonds in the Rough?
Mike Tenay and Don West spoke to the home fans about the Bound For Glory PPV in Detroit. It might have led to the Kurt Angle sit down interview mentioned on the website.
(3) In the non-sanctioned ladder fight, Samoa Joe defeated Captain Charisma Christian Cage.
There wasnt a referee around the ringside area for this PPV style match. Joe took it right to Cage at the bell with high impact offense. Cage stopped it with a thumb to the eye but Joe hit a flying knee to the head. Joe went for a ladder but Cage dropkicked him in the face. Cage dumped Joe into the ring and got the ladder but Joe hit a flying forearm sending the ladder into Cage. Joe smashed the ladder into Cages ribs and got the ladder on the ring apron but Cage dropped on the end on the apron, sending the front into Joes jaw. Cage brought the ladder in the ring and went to climb as Joe stopped him. Cage collapsed the ladder and placed it in a corner. But it was Cage who went careening into the ladder on a reverse from Joe. Joe did the facewash but instead of the Ole kick he kicked the ladder into Cages package. Joe went up on the ladder but Cage stopped him, bringing Joe back to the canvas with a Scorpion Death Drop. With Joe momentarily out Cage went up the ladder but missed a move. Joe closed the ladder, placed it on Cage and hit a Swanton bomb. Somehow Cage dumped Joe to the floor and went forth belt but Joe came in and hit an enziguri followed by the muscle buster. This brought out Abyss who hit Joe with a Black Hole Slam. Abyss went up the ladder but Raven and Brother Runt brought him down. Raven and Abyss fought on the floor as Runt dove off the ladder. Joe and Cage grabbed the belt but Rhino came out and sent both falling off the ladder. Joe held the belt when he landed as Cage was hit with a GORE!!!
Jeremy Borash and Christy Hemme tossed out T-shirts to the fans before hour two began. Borash was booed when he mentioned the PPV was going to be held in Detroit. However he said nowhere else equaled the Orlando crowd.
Matches to air October 19 (not all the interviews were shown):
Mike Tenay was in the ring to address the NWA World Heavyweight title belt situation. He held documents that stated TNA management demanded Samoa Joe surrender the belt at the end of the show or be removed from the TNA roster immediately.
Raven, Abyss and Brother Runt came from beside the announce table using chairs, trash can lids and anything else not nailed down as weapons. The fight went into the ring where Raven hit Abyss with the drop toe hold to the chair but Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam. But the shock of the night came as JAKE ROBERTS came to the ring!! Roberts had his trusty body bag which he opened in front of Abyss. Mitchell signaled for Doomsday but Abyss ran from the boa constrictor Roberts pulled out of the bag. Runt came into the ring and told Roberts to put the snake in the bag and get out of his ring. Roberts dropped the bag on Runts head and hit the DDT. Roberts grabbed the snakes head and sent it down Runts pants. Roberts took the mic and addressed the fans. TNA asked Roberts to be the referee for the Monsters Ball match at Bound For Glory. Roberts said something like he would be the guide into the labyrinth of his mind and show the competitors to their words mean nothing.
Mike Tenay and Don West addressed the home crowd when Captain Charisma Christian Cage came into the Impact Zone carrying two folding chairs. Norman Smiley came dressed circa WCW style.
(1) Christian Cage defeated Norman Smiley.
A chair shot to the helmet did nothing to Smiley who went for the Big Wiggle but got a kick to the package. Cage removed the helmet and hit Smiley with the Unprettier. Next he hit the one man chairscendo and pinned Smiley. Cage removed Smileys football padding and put him in a straight jacket as Shark Boy came to aid his fiend. Cage decked him with the helmet Smiley wore to the ring. As Cage went to put the jacket on Shark, Rhino came out sending Cage running for the rampway.
Jeremy Borash found Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal playing video games. They said they were in Senshi training. They were playing Mortal Kombat and wearing bald caps. Jerry Lynn told them they had a match. They were attacked by Senshi.
(2) World X Division champion Senshi defeated Jay Lethal.
From the good guy side of town, Senshi threw Lethal down the rampway and into the ring. Senshi tried to use his martial arts moves to knock Lethal senseless but Lethal fought back with a kick to the jaw. Lethals top rope move met canvas instead of Senshi who hit a Shining Wizard to the corner before winning with the Ki Crusher. Chris Sabin came out to aid Lethal but got hit with the double boots to the chest running and then from the top rope.
Mike and Don talked to the home fans again.
(3)NWA World Tag team champions Phenomenal AJ Styles and Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels and the James Gang (Kip and BG James) defeated Americas Most Wanted (Tennessee Cowboy James Storm and Wildcat Chris Harris w/Gail Kim) and Latin American Xchange (Notorious 187 Homicide and Hotstuff Hernandez w/Konnan).
This was not pretty as all eight men brawled at the bell. Styles, Daniels and the LAX fought around ringside as the James Gang fought AMW. Finally LAX got in the ring where Hernandez worked over Daniels with a standing backbreaker. Daniels was locked in a Dragon Sleeper. Daniels escaped and tagged in Styles who cleaned the ring until Storm hit a superkick. Homicide and Harris got into an argument as Styles got to his feet. This led to Styles hitting Harris with an enziguri. Harris fell into Homicide and Styles rolled up Harris for the pin.
Afterwards AMW and LAX exchanged words as Kim smacked Konnan in the face. When it looked like K-Dog and Kim were going to fight, LAX jumped AMW with the sock puppet Konnan carries around. The worst move came as Hernandez hit Kim with the Border Crossing. It got surreal when Styles and Daniels came back to fend off LAX from doing further damage to Kim as AMW laid in the ring beaten down.
Mike Tenay returned to the ring to find out if Samoa Joe would surrender the NWA World title belt. Earl Hebner was in the ring holding the documents shown earlier. Out came Samoa Joe dressed in street clothes with the title belt in hand. Tenay asked Joe for his answer as he looked over the documents. Joe ripped the document up as KURT ANGLE came out to the Impact Zone. Joe put the belt down in front of Angle as the two men stared each other down. Angle headbutted Joe and hit the Angle Slam. Angle picked up the title belt but got hit from behind with an enziguri. Joe went to pick up Angle but Angle took Joe to the mat as TNA security stormed the ring to try and break them up. It looked like Joes forehead got busted open during the fracas. Just as it looked like it was calmed down, Joe ran back down and attacked Angle. Security dragged Joe out of the Impact Zone as the fans cheered for Angle. Angle took a sign from a fan that had Angle on it and said TNA IS GOLD before he asked for the house mic.
I am not sure if this was on TV. Angle was showered with a chant of his name. Angle said he had been watching TNA for a year. He said he asked for a release from WWE some he could work in front of the best audience in wrestling, the TNA fans. A week later McMahon claimed he fired Angle from WWE. Angle said Vince McMahon could kiss his Olympic Gold Medal Ass!! I have to say the ovation Angle received was louder then any ever in TNA. It was louder then the debuts of Sting, Team 3D and Christian Cage.
Matches taped for Xplosion/Global Impact Internet show:
(1) The Naturals (Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas w/ Franchise Shane Douglas) defeated A1 and Petey Williams when they hit Williams with the double team top rope dropkick into a power bomb.
