Big News: Victory Road Main Event Change Report by TNA Wrestling News Staff on 07/02/2006 at 07:57 PM
The main event for Victory Road is now the four-way #1 Contender's Match with Samoa Joe vs. Sting vs. Scott Steiner vs. Christian Cage. Jeff Jarrett will not wrestle on that PPV, but will defend the title on the 8.13.06 PPV against the winner of the four-way.
It was thought that both matches would be on the Victory Road show, but the plans have appeared to change.
*******************************************************************************
OK....so now, the champion is being "punished" by not having to actually defend the title for a month and a half? Was this JJ's way of holding on to the title a little longer?
I suppose this makes a little more sense (the contender wouldn't be 'exhausted' by the 4-Way) and it gives them time to promote a singles confrontation, but the whole title scene is a complete debacle and I can't believe TNA keeps making this mistake.

Oh..BTW...
Backstage News On Jim Cornette's Status With TNA Report by TNA Wrestling News Staff on 07/02/2006 at 05:46 PM
Jim Cornette isn't expected back to TNA until 7/31, thus he'll miss Victory Road on 7/16 due to a ROH commitment.
Cornette will also miss the August PPV as he previously committed to a wrestling convention in Washington, DC that weekend.
If needed for recorded segments, Cornette is willing to drive to Nashville to do so.
*********************************************************************************************************
So they bring in Jimmy, have him make a bunch of fairly ridiculous decisions in storyline, and then he's gone off TV for a month? Hey, fantastic. Nothiong says "new face of TNA" like pre-taped segments.

This is the stupidest thing ever!
From my understanding the Fatal Four Way was going to take place this week on IMPACT and then the winner would face Jarrett at Victory Road. This is so dumb. Are they seriously trying to put themselves in the crapper? Idiots!

Actually this was all known beforehand about Cornette. He's only going to appear live at the PPVs and the tapings afterwards. He'll be taping segments in Nashville for everything else. This is because Cornette is afraid to fly.

I don't have a problem with Cornette, he made previous plans and appearances and he has to honour them. I have a problem with the TNA booking team. I am not too fond of the WWE's at times either but TNA is making what seems to be rookie mistakes when booking. Maybe they should give Kevin Sullivan a call to book the next bunch of shows!

Why not. Since everything seems so random. Hey, there's a major PPV, let's not book the World Champ.

Pretty much sums it up. I said I wouldn't watch anymore if JJJ got the belt back...but the WAY he got it back, combined with the disaster that has been this whole 'punish JJJ by having him hold onto the Title for nearly 2 months without havnig to defend it is a JOKE...a f'n JOKE. And frankly, I haven't even really thought of TNA since the last PPV...I'm done! Its almost as if these guys are doing everything for themselves and their own ego, and don't give 2 sh*ts about the fans...like they can run whatever dumb ass, stupid storyline that JJJ wants and that fans will keep tuning in. Your not Vince...you can't get away with doing what you want...because what you want is NOT good for TNA. I'm looking right at you JJJ. Good will and hope only go so far guys...and many of the fans who were pulling for you even though your product was only a little better than total crap are now losing their patience and their interest. TNA had a golden opportunity to do something NEW when everyone was talking about ECW...the wrestling world was buzzing...so what do they do...they put the belt back on the least liked performer perhaps in all of wrestling, and decide to have another 4 man cluster**** match to name a #1 contender...as the Main Event of a PPV! There are probably 20 or 30 guys ON THIS BOARD who could have come up with a more compelling, intersting idea than that...unbelievable!
I'm sure they'll keep treading water, but unless something REALLY changes, this fed has no hope...I'm sorry, DR, I still don't agree with the WAY you run down TNA with the glee of a kid on Christmas...but dude, you called it months ago, and its looking more and more like you were right on the money!

Well this will be one TNA PPV I don't get, I have seen most of them right back to their PPV only days. So this will be the first I will not be so eager to part money with. Not putting the World Title up for grabs on a PPV? Sorry but I think the WWE will get my cash for Great American Bash this month!

Actually watching that show again it was never advertised or mentioned that the title would be defended at Victory Road. So either it was cut out of the show or it was the case of a fan messing something up for the spoilers.

Also, it's not the first time that the champion hasn't defended the belt on a PPV...now, it may be the first time he's not WRESTLED, but they've had shows without defenses before.
I would have at LEAST thrown together a Jarrett-Monty Brown match or SOMETHING.

Yes, but it goes back to the point that IN STORYLINE, Jeff Jarrett rigged the KOTM match so he could win the title. And Jim Cornette's big spiel about Jarett not being "handed a title" and making the belt vacant for a week while he thought things over was supposed to be because A) his hands were tied and he knew he had to award JJ the belt and B) he still wanted to punish Jarrett somehow.
So...it's not about whether or not that match was advertised or whether or not the championship is being defended necessarily...it's the fact that JJ is being "punished" by being handed the title and then not defending it ofr nearly two month and only after 4guys fight for a title shot.
It makes NO sense.
It actually makes the stupid decision to put the belt on JJ even more ridiculous and inane. if you're punishing Jarrett, why not put him in a gauntlet against the four contenders or something?..this is just dumb.

From a storyline standpoint, Cornette said that Jarrett might be "holding the belt," but he's not the champion in his eyes. And if he immediately booked a match that was rigged for Jarrett to lose the betl, he'd be no better than Jarrett is. In his eyes, he's doing the best thing he can - finding which of those four men is the toughest - then sending one of them after Jarrett. The babyface commissioner is going to try to get the belt away in an honoralbe fashion, the antithesis of how it was won.
I don't think it's nearly as bad as it was when we all assumed the four-way and the title match were going to both be at Victory Road. A held-up title still would have made a lot more sense, but this is the best best way it could be done while still putting the belt on Jarrett, which had to happen for that are totally unfathomable to anyone but Dubba J and his daddy.
My problem with it is that I don't think anyone other than Jarrett will be champion after that next title match. I don't see Christian getting the belt back, because he wasn't a good champion, Steiner's old and crazy, and I just don't know what they could do that would be compelling with Sting as champion. The only good choice from those four would be Joe, and he won't win this match - he is booked in and loses these multi-man matches to make him look somewhat fallable while still keeping his "undefeated" streak going.
So by my count this makes at least three more PPVs that I won't be watching because Jarrett is the champ. This stinks.

I agree with most of what you said...but at least one person said they weren't buying the PPV because the title wasn't being defended...a person who, until recently, was an ardent TNA supporter and wasn't acknowledging that they have had PPVs without title defenses many times in the past.

If your referring to me Tommy, let me clear it up a little. I don't want to watch a show where Jarrett is not putting the title up for grabs since that means we have to endure another month or two with him as champion. I have been a big supporter of TNA but their recent lack of any sense has turned me off. WWE has done the same for me many times before with their RAW program.
At least if the title was up for grabs I may have picked this one up as their is a chance to see Jarrett drop it early. This four way match SHOULD have been on Impact NOT as the Main Event of VR!! Sorry but I could have booked a better show in my sleep! TNA has gone the way of the dodo and I cannot justify or try and glean over the total lack of continuity or the fact that TNA has gone to prodding the big fish in the bigger pond.

I was just pointing out that your criticism, as you worded it, didn't make sense as TNA has done similar things in the past. I wasn't disputing your decision not to watch it or anything, just saying that it wasn't anything new for TNA.
