FROM LORDS OF PAIN
Spike TV is preparing to announce that TNA iMPACT! will move to a Thursday night primetime slot, reports PWTorch.com.
If Spike TV does go through with the move, the night would reportedly see TNA from 8-9PM followed by two hours of to-be-determined UFC programming.
This news comes on the heels of the strong 1.1 rating for this past Saturday's edition of the TNA television show.
A spokesperson for Spike TV said that the network is not yet commenting on the story.
In other news, this reporter can confirm that the next TNA Wrestling/Spike TV media conference call will be with X-Division Champion Samoa Joe. The interview is set for next Tuesday.

Wow! This could be really bad for TNA. They're only gonna have the debut of Sting once. I think their ratings are gonna go back to what they have been and then, they're back to square 1.
I know you gotta strike while the iron's hot, but I think this is a little short sighted.
If their ratings had been on a steady increase for several weeks, then you make this move.

I think it is a good move. Saturday Night is a horrrible slot for TNA. Thursday Night is much better.

Why put it opposite Survivor, one of the most popular shows n T.V. ?? That will kill the ratings for sure. I am a big fan of TNA, but I will watch Survivor if the two are opposite each other.

I'm sorry but Survivor is an EFFing joke. No offense to those that like this kind of stuff. But if I had a choice between watching Survivor and getting my eyes gouged out by a saudering iron................well hopefully they have some good medical advances for eyeballs being saudered out.

TNA's iMPACT! may get a 8pm to 9:30pm timeslot, 90 minutes would be a great unique move for TNA. I'm sorry but Survivor has run it's course and yes there are other solid shows but I'd watch TNA over anything and I would say that there is a following for Thrusday wrestling and this will be a good move for both TNA and Spike TV. I'm Xcited if this will come true, TNA on THURSDAYS!

Think also about the people who used to watch WWE on Thursdays. Most of those people followed SD to Fridays but what about the casual person just flipping channels and finding SD on Thursday....................then look for it later and its not there anymore. TNA could capitalize on the "casual" fan. Even if there are only 10; thats better then none.

Why put it opposite Survivor, one of the most popular shows n T.V. ?? That will kill the ratings for sure. It's the ratings of "Survivor" that would be hurt more than TNA's. There are two tabulations for television ratings: one for networks, the other for cable channels. They have different values as well. The Nielsen Co. wanted to, and still wants to, have a universal ratings tabulation now that the majority of households have cable or satellite dishes. The networks hate this idea, because this dilutes the value of a rating, and thereby its ad revenues, if networks had to compete with cable channels. Then again, Viacom would be happy either way. It owns both CBS and Spike TV. More viewers for either show means more money for Viacom.

No way that Survivor's ratings are getting hurt by TNA. Thats ridiculous. TNA will certainly get a boost though.
I for one will continue to DVR TNA and watch it whenever I get a chance, while watching Survivor from 8-9 on Thursdays.
I'm still trying to give the fed a chance...maybe when they get to Primetime the show may pick it up a notch, and when the Survivor season is over I will being watching it live.

Glad to see another Survivor fan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The show has been around for a while, but the personality conflicts and scheming still intrigue me. I hope that TNA succeeds. But with Survivor and CSI on Thursday, it will be tough.

That's not what he means at all wad.
Some people who watch TNA also watch Survivor. Therefore they will have to watch one or the other (for ratings purposes, they can obviously tivo or tape the other show). By competing against a very popular show, they are at risk of losing a portion of thier audience to that show.
So while you're correct in saying that the shows are on different ratings scales, they would still be attempting to draw from the same viewership base (more or less, discounting those who don't have cable.)

I agree that a Saturday show is worthless for TNA. They need to be on during the week.
I would say the idea of Thursday nights replacing the old SD timeslot is a good idea. Also, a Tuesday could work, too.

That's not what he means at all wad. Some people who watch TNA also watch Survivor. Therefore they will have to watch one or the other (for ratings purposes, they can obviously tivo or tape the other show). By competing against a very popular show, they are at risk of losing a portion of thier audience to that show. But they do not compete. Using the yardstick of competition, the Nielsens, they cannot. You're worried that programming a TNA show at the same time as "Survivor" will split the audience, forcing you to miss one show over the other. That you'll have to address with Viacom. It owns both CBS and Spike, and you may raise a valid point. "Survivor" will likely to be hurt more. Thursday nights are very competitive for the networks. "Survivor" needs to maintain a comfortable lead since other networks also counter-program with their strongest shows, forcing you to choose. TNA has to compete with hundreds of cable channels, so the share is going to be very small. "Survivor," on the other hand, needs a very large share. Second, unless Neilsen gave you a diary, you cannot do anything to affect ratings. Neilsen randomly selects a sample of television viewers that represent the demographics most relevant to advertisers, but it also measures for general viewing habits for statistical accuracy. If you watch "Survivor" or TNA, you only watch it in the eyes of the networks if you have a diary. Otherwise, someone in the country with your demographics is watching the shows for you. I understand that you are worried that you would hate to be forced to choose between two of your favorite shows. But, if you have a TiVo or tape one and watch the other live, you get to have your cake and eat it, too. However, there are only a few people in this country who have real influence over what you watch. The utility of ratings is for another thread.

Yeah....I understand how ratings work. I think the major concern is that placing TNA in a timeslot where a powerhouse show is may cause it to lose some viewers. And that's not really something they can afford with the ratings they are pulling in.
