I was thinking... why don't they replace Don West with Larry Zbysko? Larry's got a few years of experience as the color man in WCW. Sure he wasn't exactly Bobby Heenan, but as I recall he was a lot more interesting than Don West.
My hope is that Jim Ross will opt not to sign back on with WWE when his contract expires and heads over to TNA. A Ross/Tenay team would be good. I actually prefer Tenay's commentary in WCW when he was the third man on the team and not the play by play man.

See, Tenay would be a great play by play man with Ross as an Anchor and, say, Shane Douglas as color guy.
Ross is a BAD play by play man, because every move is "my Gawd whattamove!"...but he's still one Helluva commentator for pushing storylines and wrestlers.

Tafkaga, I agree with you that Don West is not the best and Tenay needs someone else with him. Jim Ross would be a move that might just give TNA some major props.

See... I think Ross is the better play by play man...he's simply more entertaining, and to me that's what wrestling is all about. I don't consider it that important that the play by play man know the names of 48 wristlock variations. 90% of fans aren't going to care about that anyway. What's important is that he's entertaining, and Ross is much more entertaining than Tenay. This is why Ross would work best as play by play and Tenay could be more of the in-depth analysis man who chimes in with a little more in-depth info, but isn't necessarily rattling off a library of move names on a constant basis.

That is what a play by play man does. He has to know the moves. A color commentator is there for the entertainment factor. Don West is not that bad. I don't know why everyone does not like him. He obviously is the color man and actually reminds me of Joey Styles a bit. He gets way into it and that is great. He does not know the moves that well but when he sees something he likes he yells and gets excited. That is a good color man in my book.

Gorilla Monsoon was in my opinion the greatest play by play man in the business, but he was by no means a library of wrestling move names. He and Bobby Heenan were the best team because they were entertaining and they played well off of each other. A color commentator is not entertaining by himself... he has to be able to do give and take with the play by play man. That's why Bobby Heenan was great when he worked with Gorilla, but was not very entertaining when he worked with Schiavone. Jim Ross may not know as many variations of the wristlock by name as Tenay does, but he's no slouch when it comes to wrestling knowledge. And he's a lot more entertaining.

I am hoping the same. I would love to see Jim Ross and Tenay work together. Don West can get pretty grating at times but he is by no means horrible either.
I wish they would bring in Tony Shiavone to work with Tenay and then get Jim Ross in there with them. Classic!

Schiavone actually did a pretty good job back in WWF when Jesse Ventura was his sidekick. But in WCW he was down right irritating at times and had zero chemistry with Heenan. I blame a lot of Schiavone's terrible-ness on the WCW product at the time though.

Gotta agree with tafkaga, I could listen to Monsoon and Heenan any day. Great chemistry, they pushed the angles well and added humor that didn't seem contrived.
I like Tenay, but West is kind of annoying.

I for one enjoyed Zbyszko as well as Schiavone. However, hope all you want, but Ross is never coming to TNA. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see him taking that big of a pay cut. Tenay is the man. He brings credibility to TNA. West needs a lot of help, but he's bearable. He gets an A for effort.

I'm not too sure. Ross took a pretty big pay cut when he moved from WCW to WWF. He did it because WWF was the place to be at the time. From what I understand he's financially pretty well off... so if he decided he wanted to have his old job back in the wrestling business, I don't know that money would keep him out. But then again I have no idea what TNA pays in comparison to WWE.

I really like Zbysko in his current role as DOA or whatever TNA is calling it now. Heenan and Monsoon was a great announce team. It is almost unfair to compare others to them they were that good. I really don't think that Tenay would be a good pairing with Ross. Neither jokes or really, really gets into it like a color man should. Maybe a 3 man announce team would suit TNA in the future. For right now JR is with WWE for a while longer. It appears as if he will be a backstage guy until his contract is up. At that point he can go where he wants or resign with WWE or completely leave wrestling all together.
