This Sunday August 27 from the Thomas and Mack in Las Vegas, Nevada, Major League Wrestling's two brands (the AWA and the NWA) together present Summer Slam!
note: matches in red are from Major League Wrestling's AWA brand
note: matches in blue are from Major League Wrestling's NWA brand
1. Jim Londos vs World Champion Nick Bockwinkel in a steel cage match.
Several weeks ago on AWA:RAW, Jim Londos appeared on the verge of defeating Bockwinkel for the World Championship when the Heenan Family's "problem solver" Ox Baker suddenly jumped in the ring and attacked Londos for the DQ to save Bockwinkel's title. Will the rematch between Londos and Bockwinkel in a steel cage designed to keep out Baker and the rest of the Heenan Family allow Londos to win the World Championship or will Bockwinkel still manage to retain the title he has held since March?
2. Frank Gotch vs Diamond Dallas Page vs MLW Champion and United States Champion Buddy Rogers in a triple threat two falls match. The first fall is for Rogers' United States Championship and the second fall is for Rogers' MLW Championship.
MLW Chairman Bruno Sammartino seems to have stacked the odds against Buddy Rogers who does not even have to be pinned or made to submit to lose either of his two championships. Will Rogers manage to overcome the odds to retain both or even one of his two championships or will Gotch or Page become the new MLW Champion and/or United States Champion?
3. Fabulous Kangaroos vs World Tag Team Champions the Midnight Express in a best 2 out of 3 falls handicap match.
Last week on NWA:NITRO, the Midnight Express' manager Jim Cornette revealed a loophole in the contract for the match at Summer Slam that only specified the Fabulous Kangaroos would wrestle the Midnight Express. Cornette then introduced Dennis Condrey as the newest and third member of the Midnight Express and told the Kangaroos they would now have to wrestle ALL of the Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton, Stan Lane and Condrey) if they wanted a match for the World Tag Team Championship at Summer Slam. Can the Kangaroos overcome this 2 vs 3 disadvantage to become World Tag Team Champions?
4. Road Warriors vs Bruiser Brody and Steve "Dr. Death" Williams (managed by Killer Kowalski).
Kowalski seems determined to continue punishing the Road Warriors as his two newest Dungeon of Doom members, Brody and Williams, are set to take on Hawk and Animal in an epic tag team battle. On the last two editions of NWA:NITRO, Brody defeated Hawk and Williams defeated Animal. But this tag team match at Summer Slam would seem to favor the more established tag team the Road Warriors over Brody and Williams.
5. Final Round of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament: Antonino Rocca vs Larry Zbyszko.
Will Rocca become Major League Wrestling's first-ever Intercontinental Champion or will Zbyszko, the host of Larry Land, claim the gold? Also, will Zbyszko's bodyguard Cowboy Bob Orton Jr play any role in the outcome of this match to determine the Intercontinental Championship?
6. MLW Chairman Bruno Sammartino vs Ivan Koloff.
Sammartino, the owner and chairman of Major League Wrestling is coming out of retirement just for this weekend to take on his old enemy Ivan Koloff. Sammartino announced he would return just for this matchup two weeks ago on the Hot Seat of NWA:NITRO after being taunted and mocked by Koloff. Will Sammartino avenge his shocking past defeat in the center of the ring at Madison Square Garden that came at the hands of Koloff back when they both wrestled in the Notheast Territory?
(note: I am using the Sammartino card from LOW Bootlegs for this weekend's match).
7. Giant Baba vs Harley Race
Two weeks ago on the main event NWA:NITRO, Race made his shocking announcement that he was the mysterious fourth member of the Horsemen by attacking Baba with a steel chair from outside of the ring which allowed the other members of the Horsemen: Rogers and the United States Tag Team Champions the Valentines to defeat Gotch, Page, and Baba by countout. Baba is looking for revenge against Race this Sunday at Summer Slam!
8. Mil Mascaras vs Bobo Brazil
Mascaras and Brazil, who together won the Sammartino Invitational back in May, will wrestle each other for the first-time ever! Which one of these two friends will walk away the winner at Summer Slam?
9. Jimmy Snuka vs Don Muraco
This match has been eagerly awaited by Major League Wrestling (MLW) fans since the Great American Bash when Muraco suddenly made his MLW debut by viciously attacking his old enemy Snuka moments after Snuka won his dog collar match vs Gorgeous George. As a result of Muraco's attack, Snuka suffered serious injuries that landed him on the injured list. But Snuka is set to make his highly-anticipated comeback at Summer Slam vs Muraco in their first of what will certainly be many matches in Major League Wrestling!
10. MLW Tag Team Champions the Heart Thrashers (Brutus Beefcake and Buff Bagwell) and their manager Cassandra vs the Barroom Heroes (Sandman and Justin Credible) and their manager Phantasy in an inter-promotional mixed tag match.
Guided by Cassandra, the Heart Thrashers in July shocked everyone by winning a tournament of AWA tag teams to become the first-ever MLW Tag Team Champions. On the NWA brand, Phantasy downplayed Cassandra's managerial achievement by announcing she would put together her own tag team capable of defeating the Heart Thrashers. Phantasy publicly revealed her new tag team to be the Barroom Heroes, Sandman and Credible, when she brought them over to AWA RAW to attack the Heart Thrashers with Singapore canes to set up the first-ever match between AWA and NWA wrestlers in Major League Wrestling history! But while this match will be inter-promotional, it will not be inter-gender and thus the men and the women on these two teams will only be able to wrestle their opponents of the opposite sex during the match.
MLW spokesman Splatter says: "Major League Wrestling (MLW). Don't you DARE miss it!"
