Card #216 - 02/23/2007 The Aud - Buffalo, NY
1. Virgil cor S.D. Jones Philadelphia's Favorite Son started out fast in this second match between former partners, but Virgil hit a cross body from the apron to the floor that knocked Jones silly. The count out win evens the score between the two.
2. Flying Redheads b Riviera Playboys This was a long but one-sided match with the Redheads trying to get back into the tag title mix. Both Bastien and Lyons looked sharp, with Bastien scoring the fall on Buddy Rose with a top rope splash.
3. Bob Orton, Sr. b The Crusher "The King of the Piledriver" scored a big upset here, but had some help along the way. Crusher looked like the clear victor until Mike DiBiase interfered to turn the match around. Orton used the Piledriver for the win. Just when it looked like Orton and DiBiase were going to inflict some more damage, Jimmy Valiant ran in to save the day. Unfortunately, he was then attacked from behind by Heenan Family bodyguard Missing Link which led to...
4. Missing Link b Jimmy Valiant This was another crazy brawl with Valiant still showing the effects of the beating he took on the last show. Valiant got a little help from Crusher, which led to a near fall. Bobby Heenan finally arrived at ringside just in time to save Link from Valiant's Sleeper. Link came back with a brutal chair shot and consecutive Back Flying Headbutts to get the win.
5. Antonino Rocca & Ilio DiPaolo cor Diamond Dallas Page & King Kong Bundy The popular combination of Rocca & DiPaolo continue to get the better of the NJ duo. This turned into a great match, with DDP starting to live up to his hype. It wound up with Ilio and Bundy outside the ring. Bundy tried a splash against the steel post, but DiPaolo moved and Bundy went down like a ton of bricks. Maybe a ton and a half of bricks. The big man got counted out as the string of woeful performances by the highly regarded Jersey natives goes on.
6. Justin Credible b Steve Corino (Texas Death Match) THE STREAK IS OVER! If it weren't for the Bockwinkel/Jonathan match on Card #213, this would be a match of the year candidate. Amazing bloodbath! Credible was just busting Corino up early on. Out of nowhere, Corino got a reversal and made a mess out of Credible. At that point, it appeared that Credible was cursed and would never ever beat the self-proclaimed King of Old School. After a reversal off the ropes, Credible landed a superkick and That's Incredible to finally get the 1-2-3 on his arch rival. A depleted Corino had enough energy to challenge Credible to a Street Fight next week in Akron! These guys will be lucky to be out of the hospital by next Friday!
7. Yukon Eric & Jimmy Snuka b Masked Executioner #1 & Magnificent Muraco A hard fought contest with the Snuka/Muraco confrontations being the highlight. At one point, Snuka hit a perfect Superfly on the Magnificent One, but manager Lou Albano had the ref distracted. Yukon took his usual beating, but is like a tank in the ring. Late in the match, Muraco used the Hawaiian Hammer on Snuka, but Yukon saved. Executioner #1 tagged in to finish off the groggy Snuka, but the feisty Fijiian fired up with some chops and another Superfly to get the win.
8. World League Challenge: Nikolai Volkoff (CRO) b Antonio Inoki (JPN) Huge upset to cap off the first round of the WLC! Inoki was on cruise control, and looked to have the match well in hand until he went for a top rope move. Volkoff caught him in mid-air and used the Backbreaker Drop for a stunning victory!
9. NWF Championship: Nick Bockwinkel dq Don Leo Jonathan Rematch from the 5 star spectacular on Card #213. Bobby Heenan had made it known that there would be no more title chances for the Mormon Giant after tonight. This one looked bad for Jonathan from the start. Bockwinkel (boo!) clipped his knee right after the bell and was working him over. Jonathan could never get on track offensively and when Bockwinkel locked on the Figure Four, it was a forgone conclusion that the match would have to be stopped. Suddenly, the crowd reacted to a figure running toward the ring from the locker room...it was "Doctor Death" Steve Williams! He first flattened Heenan, then got in the ring and sent Bockwinkel flying! Williams bounced the champ around like a pinball until Bock fled to the safety of the locker room! Williams announced that once he finished up his commitments in Mid South and Japan, he would be coming to the NWF to get revenge on the man who cost him a shot at becoming the World League Champion!
Yowzah! Just when you think you've seen it all, the NWF gets even wilder! It has been learned that Williams' contracts expire in May, so it looks like Doctor Death will start making NWF housecalls in June! But as for the immediate future, let's talk about next week in Akron!
* S.D. Jones teams with Danny Doring to face Virgil & Chris Candido! Doring and Candido have gotten lost in the Credible/Corino shuffle lately but come back here. * Jimmy Valiant once again goes after Heenan Family bodyguard Missing Link in what could turn into a great feud! * Ilio DiPaolo squares off against Larry Zbyszko in a match to determine who will get the next chance at The Sheik's North American Title! Can Ilio keep his momentum going when faced with the Heenan Family? * The Crusher goes one-on-one with Mike DiBiase! You know "King of the Piledriver" Bob Orton will at DiBiase's side. * Justin Credible, with the monkey finally off his back, gets Steve Corino in an Akron Street Fight! Look for another insane bloodletting in this one! * The World League Challenge second round opens with George Hackenschmidt (EST) against the man who got the controversial win over Steve Williams, evil foreigner the Iron Sheik (IRI)! * The big main event sees Lou Albano's Masked Executioners looking to take back the tag-team gold from new champions Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge! Can Albano's behemoths become only the third team to hold the titles three times? You'll find out in a mere seven days!

Awesome results! Cool to see Credible finally win and in an awesome match. That feud was your version of Tommy Dreamer and Raven in ECW. Good to see old Doc make another appearance and jump the champ.

FEBRUARY 2007 RANKINGS As of Card #216
NWF: NICK BOCKWINKEL (C) NA: THE SHEIK (NA) 1. Larry Zbyszko (2) 2. Magnificent Muraco (5) 3. Yukon Eric (3) 4. Don Leo Jonathan (1) 5. Ray Stevens (8) 6. Jimmy Snuka (4) 7. Steve Corino (6) 8. Ilio DiPaolo ( - ) 9. The Crusher (7) 10. Bob Orton ( - )
TAG: YUKON ERIC & DANNY HODGE (1) 1. Mike DiBiase & Bob Orton (4) 2. Masked Executioners (C) 3. Flying Redheads (3) 4. Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens (2) 5. Antonino Rocca & Ilio DiPaolo ( - )
Notes: Yukon Eric loses a little steam on the singles side after winning the tag-team belts. Larry Zbyszko moves into the #1 slot. Both Don Leo Jonathan and The Sheik won Wrestler of the Year after winning Newcomer of the Year - will Zbyszko follow the trend? "King of the Piledriver" Bob Orton had a big month, landing on the singles charts and making it to the top of the tag-team contenders. The tag ranks also see the debut of Rocca & DiPaolo, the most popular team in the NWF, at #5. Lou Albano is the master of creating tag-team champions - can his recently dethroned Masked Executioners win the gold for a record tying third time on the next show?

The NWF will be back on track soon. Tax season is over. I extended my final return yesterday. I finished #2 in overtime in a firm of over 200 people. That's not something I really wanted to happen, it just did.
Tomorrow will be spent on my couch nursing a hangover and watching Season Two of The Venture Brothers, which I will pick up this afternoon.
IGNORE ME!!!

Card #217 Preview - 03/02/2007 Akron Armory - Akron, OH
I'll do my best to get full results up in the next day or two, but to get everyone (including me) caught up, here's the complete lineup for Card #217 - which had one of the most dramatic developments in NWF history!!
1. S.D. Jones & Danny Doring vs. Virgil & Chris Candido With the big Credible/Corino feud, their respective tag partners have been in the background. Now they join up with Jones and Virgil to go at it in tag-team action!
2. Red Bastien vs. Playboy Buddy Rose Red will need to watch out for Buddy's manager Sherri Martel and partner Koko Ware at ringside. Expect Billy "Red" Lyons to be there to watch his partner's back!
3. Jimmy Valiant vs. Missing Link Their prior matches have been all out brawls, with Link using his weapon of choice, the steel chair, to gain the upper hand. Will this be Valiant's night to get revenge, or will the Heenan Family bodyguard continue his winning ways?
4. Justin Credible vs. Steve Corino (Akron Street Fight) After FINALLY getting his first clean singles win over Corino, Credible is out to prove it was no fluke in this no holds barred Street Fight. This one will surely be a Pier 6 brawl!
5. Ilio DiPaolo vs. Larry Zbyszko A lot on the line here, as the winner gets the next North American Title shot. Crowd favorite DiPaolo is coming off some impressive victories over Dallas Page, but Zbyszko has been hot as well and has Bobby "the Brain" Heenan in his corner. Whatever the result, The Sheik awaits the winner seven days later in Youngstown.
6. Jimmy Snuka & Don Leo Jonathan vs. Magnificent Muraco & Rick Rude It looks like the long brewing Snuka/Muraco feud is ready to explode in the NWF! Lou Albano's long standing hatred of Snuka is reaching new heights. This could be the kickoff to a lengthy spring/summer war!
7. The Crusher vs. Iron Mike DiBiase The Crusher has had his hands full with DiBiase's tag partner and self-proclaimed "King of the Piledriver" Bob Orton. Now, Crusher gets a one-on-one match with someone who he's had a long term grudge with. Crusher is training hard, and has chomped a record number of cigars getting ready for this one!
8. World League Challenge: George Hackenschmidt (EST) vs. Iron Sheik (IRI) Iron Sheik got by his first round match with Steve Williams due to help from Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) and now faces former NWF star Hackenschmidt in the quarter-finals. Can the popular Estonian use his strength and conditioning to best the Iranian superstar?
9. NWF Tag-Team Championship: Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge vs. Masked Executioners It's the big tag title rematch in the main event of the night! Yukon & Hodge have been an effective (though unlikely) combination and won the titles in a big upset in the last meeting. Lou Albano's behemoths are out for blood, and are looking to snag the belts for a record-tying third time!
There you have it - a quick refresher course in the NWF! Stay tuned for all the exciting developments!

4. Justin Credible vs. Steve Corino ( Akron Street Fight) After FINALLY getting his first clean singles win over Corino, Credible is out to prove it was no fluke in this no holds barred Street Fight. This one will surely be a Pier 6 brawl! Bar the door Katie! (I hope I have my old school quote right there) I'm going with Iron Sheik to upset Hack, Executioners to win the tag belts back, and the Snuka/Muraco tag encounter not resulting in a clean pinfall. Whats the next big Super Card in the NWF? Its got to be coming up soon, right?

Bar the door Katie! (I hope I have my old school quote right there) Who was Katie and why was she always the one to bar the door? Great line-up, Tim! I'm going with Hack in the WLC and Executioners winning the belts back. I'm torn in the Snuka-Muraco tag match!

Card #217 - 03/02/2007 Akron Armory - Akron, OH
The NWF is back in Akron after a brief delay due to a ridiculous amount of time spent at work! The preview of the card is on this page a few posts ago - so let's get right to the action!
1. Virgil & Chris Candido b S.D. Jones & Danny Doring It was a battle of former tag partners (Jones & Virgil) teaming with the regular tag partners of Justin Credible & Steve Corino. S.D. and Virgil were in the ring for most of the bout, and figured in the finish. Virgil managed to lock in the Cobra Clutch to put Philadelphia's Favorite Son to sleep. After the match, Jones announced that he had invited friend Brad Armstrong to enter the NWF. Brad should be set to debut on the next card.
2. Playboy Buddy Rose b Red Bastien Rose continued his hot singles streak from 2006 here against the always scrappy Bastien. Rose had his hands full at the finish - literally! He rolled Bastien up and used one hand to hold the ropes for leverage and the other was pulling the tights. Billy "Red" Lyons was at ringside but spent most of his time fending off Koko Ware and Sherri Martel.
3. Missing Link dq Jimmy Valiant Third win in a row for Link over Valiant. Valiant was on fire early, but his temper cost him the victory. After some sneaky tactics by Link, Valiant lost his cool and grabbed Link's trademark steel chair and went berserk. He nailed Link hard three times and was DQ'd for his actions. This could be the sleeper feud of the spring!
4. Justin Credible b Steve Corino (Akron Street Fight) Lightning does strike twice! After FINALLY getting his first clean singles win over Corino in a bloodbath last week, Credible scored another victory. Corino just bludgeoned him with every possible piece of ringside plunder, but Credible never gave up. The Singapore Cane made the difference, as Credible cracked a worn down Corino with it to get the pinfall. Corino was angry with himself afterwards, but then seemed to calm down, giving Credible a slight nod before leaving the ring.
5. Larry Zbyszko b Ilio DiPaolo This was the big #1 contender match for a shot at The Sheik's North American Title next week. Both Heenan and a still dizzy Missing Link were at ringside for Zbyszko, and Ilio's tag partner Antonino Rocca was unable to be at the arena due to a scheduling conflict. The Living Legend tried to finish it early, but Ilio is a hard guy to put away. The crowd was behind the popular DiPaolo, which gave him the strength to make a big comeback. It tuned into a great match, but in the end, it was a numbers game. Ilio was always being distracted by Heenan and Link. It was enough for Zbyszko to hit a Piledriver that put the big Italian down for the count. But things didn't end there...
Zbyszko, Heenan and Missing Link did an extended in ring celebration which included Heenan cutting a long winded promo on the greatness of the Heenan Family. As this was going on, three participants in the next match made their way to the ring. Magnificent Muraco, Rick Rude and manager Lou Albano climbed through the ropes during Heenan's speech and grabbed the mic. Rude told them to leave the ring, so the crowd could see some real men. Heenan laughed, saying that he could beat Albano's guys himself. Tensions escalated, and it wound up some fists flying before security hit the ring and broke things up. Once order was restored, the next bout began.
6. Magnificent Muraco & Rick Rude b Jimmy Snuka & Don Leo Jonathan Despite how they may have come across in the altercation with the Heenan Family, Albano's team looked nothing like fan favorites in this one. It was another great bout with lots of brawling and a lenient ref. Big moves, missed big moves, reversals and comebacks galore! Finish saw Jonathan just bury Rude with a top rope dropkick, but he took out the ref as well. Albano tried to interfere, but was chased away by Snuka. As Jonathan went to revive the referee, Muarco cut him off and stuffed him with the Hawaiian Hammer. He put Rude on top and the groggy ref counted three.
7. The Crusher b Iron Mike DiBiase DiBiase always gives Crusher a tough match and did so again. Both men's tag partners (Mad Dog Vachon and Bob Orton) got into the act, but it was Orton's backfired interference that led to a brutal bodyslam on DiBiase that ended this one. Challenges for a tag match next week were flying, but Crusher's normal allies (Vachon & Jimmy Valiant) are already booked on the show.
8. World League Challenge: George Hackenschmidt (EST) b Iron Sheik (IRI) Good start to the quarter-final round of the WLC. Iron Sheik didn't get any outside help this time around. The crafty Iranian kept trying to lure Hackenschmidt into a brawl outside the ring, but the Estonian wouldn't fall for it. It ended with Sheik attempting a top rope axehandle, but getting blocked by Hack and locked in the crushing Russian Bearhug!
9. NWF Tag-Team Championship: Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge b Masked Executioners It was the big tag title rematch that most expected to be end of Yukon & Hodge's Cinderella story. Except that it wasn't. Hodge really got worked over by Albano's huge duo, but has so much skill and wrestling instinct that he was able to overcome the size difference. #1 battered Hodge, but Hodge managed to do some damage to #2. Albano's gameplan was to keep Hodge in the ring, wear him down and beat him. They only accomplished two out of those three. When Hodge finally made the big tag to Yukon, the Alaskan strongman cleaned house. It went back and forth from there until Yukon caught weary #2 with a Woodsman's Chop to take the fall, retain the titles and keep the dream alive!
How about that! Yukon and Hodge only continue to prove that anything is possible in the NWF! And the whole Heenan/Albano confrontation - whew! Let's take a look at what's up next...
NWF action explodes in Youngstown next week! The Sheik defends his North American Title against the Heenan Family for the first time! 2006 Newcomer of the Year Larry Zbyszko takes on 2006 Wrestler of the Year in your big main event! Also on the card...
* Bobby Heenan has accepted a challenge from Albano's Rick Rude! The two will meet in the opener next week! *The Jimmy Valiant/Missing Link war rages on as the two meet in tag-team competition! Mad Dog Vachon and Ray Stevens will join the party in this dynamic match! * Brad Armstrong will make his NWF debut! * The Crusher and the dreaded "mystery partner" will square off against Mike DiBiase & Bob Orton, who have put together an impressive five match winning streak! * Mil Mascaras (MEX) meets Killer Kowalski (CAN) in the next World League Challenge quarter-final bout! * Justin Credible & Danny Doring hook it up with Steve Corino & Chris Candido - Texas Death Style! * And if all that weren't enough - there's the first ever NWF singles match between Jimmy Snuka and Magnificent Muraco!
For the love of the children - do not miss the show next week at Stambaugh Auditorium! This is NWF action at its finest!

Awesome stuff, Tim! Glad to see that Hodge and Yukon aren't just a quick footnote in NWF history. Can't wait to see what happens in this Albano-Heenan feud! I'm going with Mil in the WLC and Corino/Candido in the tag. I think I remember what happens in Larry Z-Sheik, but I could be mistaken. For the love of the children - do not miss the show next week at Stambaugh Auditorium! This is NWF action at its finest! Turn right! Classic stuff.
