Card #202 - 11/17/2006 Howard Johnson Hotel Ballroom - Monroeville, PA
Sorry for the long time since last post. Monster snow & ice storm here in Buffalo. 400,000 people were without power for several days (of which I was one). Just starting to get back to normal.
1. Yukon Eric b Koko B. Ware (No one allowed ringside) After having Riviera Playboys manager Sherri Martel interfering in his matches and costing him a victory in his last bout with Koko, Yukon got this match. He made the most of the opportunity, as he rag-dolled Koko for most of the match and won with the Woodsman's Chop.
2. Justin Credible & Danny Doring b Chris Candido & Steve Corino Credible & Doring get some retribution after being beaten and bloodied on the last show. Corino would up wearing the crimson mask in this one. Doring chased Tammy from ringside allowing Justin to hit two That's Incredibles to pin Candido.
3. Danny Hodge b Iron Mike DiBiase NWF debut for perennial junior heavyweight kingpin Hodge. DiBiase also makes a return to the area, although not as the fan favorite he was previously. Once The Crusher is done with Nick Bockwinkel, he'll be looking DiBiase up (see Card #192 results). Hodge won with a flying body press, and is looking for a match with Bobby Eaton, who is the current touring World Junior Heavyweight champion.
4. Jimmy Snuka dq Masked Executioner #2 Snuka is starting to become a fan favorite once again as he battles Lou Albano's group. Snuka was all over #2 and had him pinned when #1 ran in for the DQ. Snuka, who has been injured more than anyone during his NWF tenure, escaped unharmed. He and Brody will have a return match for the tag-team titles with The Masked Executioners in two weeks on Card #204.
5. Masked Executioner #1 & Magnificent Muraco dq Flying Redheads Bastien got worked over by Albano's makeshift team and Lyons never was able to tag in. Red fired up and made a big comeback but was DQ'd for posting Muraco and pounding on him relentlessly.
6. Antonino Rocca cor Giant Baba Fast-paced scientific encounter where each man survived the others finisher. Big moves and near falls constantly. Finish saw Rocca nail Baba with a dropkick that sent the big man over the top rope. Baba hit his head on the landing and was unable to beat the ten count. This ends Baba's chance to set the NWF single year record for wins (16), as he has 15 with one match left next week.
7. Mad Dog Vachon dq Sabu It was "Dog Eat Dog" early, and Vachon was on fire. He had Sabu pinned after a Piledriver, but The Sheik jumped in the ring and started stabbing at Mad Dog with his object for the DQ. Vachon fought him off and Sheik bailed out and scampered to the locker room.
8. The Crusher & Jimmy Valiant dq Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens Rough bout for Bockwinkel & Stevens. An injured Crusher beat NWF Champ Bockwinkel to a pulp. After a Bolo Punch, the champ was done, but Heenan came in the ring and hit a double hammer on Crusher for the DQ. Crusher wasn't phased, and tossed Heenan over the top rope. Crusher got on the mic and challenged Bockwinkel to a title match with Heenan barred from the arena.
9. North American Championship: The Sheik b Playboy Buddy Rose Rose has had a good run in singles competition of late, and demanded a title match with Bockwinkel. Instead, the NWF Board gave him him a title match against The Sheik. A reluctant Rose looked good after some early pleading for his life, and even got two near falls before Sheik took him apart. Sheik was biting the Playboy and digging his fingers into the cut. Rose was screaming and had his shoulders counted down in the process. Vachon charged the ring after the bell, but security got between him and the Syrian madman before they could lock up.
Yikes! It looks like Vachon just made himself the #1 contender for the NA Title! Card #203 comes from the Akron Armory, and the main event has just been signed! NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) will meet The Crusher in a match where no one is allowed ringside, but...it will be a non-title match thanks to Bobby Heenan's handiwork. Giant Baba will have his last singles match before leaving for Japan, a rematch with Antonino Rocca! Mad Dog & Jimmy Valiant will square off against The Sheik & Sabu in what will surely be a wild brawl! An exciting six-man tag will see new champions Jimmy Snuka & Bruiser Brody teaming with Red Bastien to face The Masked Executioners & Magnificent Muraco! Also, Justin Credible will try to get an elusive singles win over Steve Corino, and much much more!

Card #203 - 11/24/2006 Akron Armory - Akron, OH
1. Bob Orton, Sr. b S.D. Jones Orton makes a successful return against an opponent he knows well, as the two battled often back in March/April. S.D. was looking good until he missed a top rope splash, which Orton followed with a Piledriver for the win. Orton noted that he plans on teaming with Mike DiBiase on a regular basis.
2. Chris Candido b Danny Doring Candido polished off Doring quickly. Credible was ringside, but got distracted chasing Tammy from the ring and couldn't save his partner.
3. Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge b Riviera Playboys Looks like Yukon & Don Leo Jonathan have split up on good terms. The team had exciting matches, but didn't get their hands raised often. Yukon and Hodge have really hit it off since Hodge's debut, so are testing the waters as a tag-team. So far, so good! Hodge caught Koko in the Oklahoma Sideroll, but Sherri Martel distracted. As Koko crawled to his corner to tag Rose, Hodge caught him in the move again for the pin.
4. Steve Corino b Justin Credible Credible remains winless in singles against Corino. He scored a near fall after a shot with the Singapore Cane, but fell victim to Corino's devious use of ringside plunder. After a blow from the timekeeper's bell, it was lights out for Credible.
5. Billy "Red" Lyons b Iron Mike DiBiase Quick win for Lyons, who submitted DiBiase with the Figure 4 Leglock after an atomic drop. It seems that with Danny Hodge in the area, the other junior heavyweights are really trying to up their game.
6. Mad Dog Vachon & Jimmy Valiant cor The Sheik & Sabu Another quick match. The Boogie Woogie Man and Sabu were just getting started when Sabu was attempting a springboard move off the guardrail outside the ring. Valiant hit a running elbow that sent Sabu flying, and he was unable to beat the 10 count. Vachon seems to be the next title contender for The Sheik, and the two lunged at one another after the bell, but were restrained by the large security force that always seems to be around whenever The Sheik is on a card.
7. Giant Baba b Antonino Rocca This was Baba's final match before returning to Japan. He was facing a man who held two wins over him this year, and it looked like Rocca was on his way to number three. But this was Baba's night, and he used the dreaded Neckbreaker Drop twice in a row to notch his 16th win of the year, tying the NWF record. Crowd gave him a long standing ovation after the match. The Destroyer made a special appearance at the show to support his long-time friend.
8. Jimmy Snuka, Bruiser Brody & Red Bastien dq Masked Executioners & Magnificent Muraco Tough to follow the emotion of the last match, but this was a spectacular hard hitting contest that saw the first NWF Snuka - Muraco confrontation, and everyone knows the bad blood there. Brody looked only slightly hampered by his injury, and ready for the tag-team title defense next week. Finish saw Snuka bury #1 with the Superfly, but Muraco came in the ring and hit Snuka with one of the tag title belts. Both these men currently have other issues on their plates, but you know this is going to explode somewhere down the line.
9. The Crusher ddq Nick Bockwinkel (Non-title; No one allowed at ringside) Crusher wanted a title match against Bockwinkel with Heenan barred from the arena, but Bockwinkel would only agree if the title was not on the line. Bockwinkel was using a foreign object to get the better of the action, but there was a surprising turnaround as the two brawled outside the ring. It appeared that an old woman at ringside (who looked to have a beard and a very raspy voice) got the object away from Bockwinkel and handed it to Crusher. The action got too wild and the ref called for a double DQ. Heenan was hot, claiming that the "old woman" was really Mad Dog Vachon in disguise! Seems "The Brain" doesn't like to get outsmarted.
Holy Algerian drag queens, Batman! You never know what to expect in the NWF! Card #204 takes us to the Convention Center in Niagara Falls, NY. The big main event sees former tag-team champions the Masked Executioners getting their return bout against new champs Snuka & Brody! Magnificent Muraco faces his toughest test to date in Don Leo Jonathan! Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens will square off against The Crusher & Jimmy Valiant! You'll see Mad Dog Vachon (hopefully in wrestling gear) against Sabu! Red Bastien hooks it up with Bob Orton, Sr. while popular Yukon Eric will take on Playboy Buddy Rose! All this and much much more next week in Niagara Falls!

GIANT BABA The NWF Years Giant Baba was with the NWF from its inception in January 2003. He was immediately a huge fan favorite and became one of only two men to hold the United States/North American Title three times (Don Leo Jonathan being the other). His finisher ended many a match, and was so lethal that it was always referred to as “the dreaded Neckbreaker Drop” during commentary. Always a top contender for the NWF Championship, Baba challenged for the belt six times, but came up a little short on each occasion. As far as the monthly Top 10 singles rankings, he was ranked in 45 of the 46 months he was eligible. He devoted the better part of 2005 to tag-team competition and was highly ranked throughout the year on both singles and tag-team charts. He had memorable feuds with Frank A. Gotch, the Valiants, Harley Race, the Midnight Express, Masked Superstar, Nick Bockwinkel and Antonio Inoki. There was also an ongoing rivalry with friend and tag partner The Destroyer that never precluded the two from facing off against one another in a singles match. As far as the numbers go, he was 55-33-1 in singles and a stellar 34-14-0 in tag matches with his regular partners (Destroyer, Race and Inoki). He twice led the NWF in singles victories (16 in 2006 and 2003). Based on the points awarded for the monthly rankings (similar to Pete Beck’s Cumulative Rankings formula) he was never rated below 8th in any year, and will end 2006 in 3rd place, his highest finish. Tim,
I really like the idea of posting a summary of a wrestler's accomplishments in your fed like you did with Giant Baba! Once my fed accumulates more history, I might do something similar.

I don't plan on doing a write up for many guys, but Baba was always in the spotlight. I don't have any plans to use him in the near future (next year or two of game time) and wanted to give him a proper send off.
I don't keep stats on how often someone wins with their finisher, but that Neckbreaker Drop killed everybody and was the most over move in the fed.

Great write-up on Baba, Tim! It will seem strange not to read about the dreaded neckbreaker drop. Loved the angle with Mad Dog in drag! What, no prostetic leg?

The NWF rules! Loved the Mad Dog angle Tim.
So when are we finally finding out the USA representative for the World League Challenge? Will there be a match to decide it?

I could tell you Todd, but of course I don't remember. Not much use in me being an "NWF Insider" since I have chronic CRS these days! Good job on the Baba writeup Dalton. Was there a "famous final scene" when he left the building, ala the Heavenly Bodies?

I'm shocked to find that Todd wants to know more about my tournament!
Actually, the U.S. representative in the World League Challenge is still up in the air due to promoter indecision. I've got three people under consideration. The U.S. rep will wrestle on Card #214, and since I'm currently on #213, I have to make a choice soon.
Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) is the obvious choice, as he's the main man in the hosting federation. I'm also looking at a former NWF wrestler, and one who has not wrestled in the area (yet).
Look for the final three participants to be posted after Card #204 results.

**NWF NEWSFLASH** Just hours before the show at the Niagara Falls Convention Center, NWF management has learned that current tag-team champion and #1 singles contender Bruiser Brody has left the promotion. It appears Brody was made a lucrative offer by Rikidozan to wrestle in Japan. Brody was the only man to pin Rikidozan during his recent tenure in the NWF, and given Rikidozan's legendary status in his native country, a rematch on Japanese soil would be a national event and surely generate a record gate. Brody gave no notice to the promotion of his departure. The effect on the tag-team championship, held by Brody and Jimmy Snuka, is uncertain at this time. The duo was set to make their first title defense against the Masked Executioners in the main event of the Niagara Falls show.

Card #204 - 12/01/2006 Convention Center - Niagara Falls, NY
Well, this entire card had to be re-worked once news of Bruiser Brody's sudden departure got out. Needless to say, the scheduled tag-team title match was off. No refunds were offered - "card subject to change" is a wonderful thing. Besides, we're all about the money here in the NWF.
1. Iron Mike DiBiase b S.D. Jones A tough battle for DiBiase, who couldn't put away the scrappy Jones. After some interference from Bob Orton Sr., DiBiase made a comeback and scored the win with a piledriver.
2. Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge b Riviera Playboys This was originally scheduled as two singles matches, but wound up as a hot tag bout. Yukon took his usual beating, but after a ref bump, Koko got destroyed. When a new ref arrived, the beating continued, and Hodge made him submit to an abdominal stretch.
3. Tony "Cannonball" Parisi b Bob Orton, Sr. Niagara Falls native Parisi got the call to fill in for the AWOL Brody. He had a great match with Orton, eventually winning when Orton missed a turnbuckle charge to delight the hometown fans.
4. Masked Executioner #2 b Red Bastien Bastien was originally scheduled to face Orton, but offered to fight an Executioner due to his ongoing battles with Albano's group. At one point, Snuka did a wild run in to save Red, but #2 made a big comeback and got a controversial pin with the Backbreaker Drop. It appeared Bastien's foot was under the bottom rope.
5. Chris Candido & Steve Corino b Justin Credible & Danny Doring This was a great wild one! The momentum constantly went back and forth. Tammy broke up three pins and allowed Corino to finally get the win over Credible after a flying bodypress. Credible challenged the duo to an elimination tag match on the next show.
6. Jimmy Snuka dq Masked Executioner #1 Snuka wound up in this singles match due to Brody's defection, and boy, was he ticked off! Snuka did some damage, but had to settle for a DQ win when Executioner #2 interfered after a Superfly Leap. Both Red Bastien and Don Leo Jonathan made the save before Snuka could be double-teamed.
7. Mad Dog Vachon dq Sabu In what has become a routine, Sabu was running interference for his uncle, The Sheik, before a North American Title match. To no one's surprise, this was a brawl. To no one's surprise, The Sheik interfered causing the DQ. To everyone's surprise, the save was not made by Vachon current teammates Crusher or Valiant, but by a returning Bobo Brazil! It turned into a post-brawl brawl that was eventually broken up by security.
8. Magnificent Muraco b Don Leo Jonathan This was the toughest test to date for the undefeated Muraco. The Magnificent One had been steamrolling his recent opposition, but Jonathan bloodied him up and made him look bad. Out of nowhere, Muraco got a reversal after an out of ring brawl, got a near fall with the Hawaiian Hammer, then followed with the Asiatic Spike for the win. Jonathan was not happy, and demanded a rematch.
9. Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens dq The Crusher & Jimmy Valiant Crusher was after NWF Champion Bockwinkel (boo!) the entire match. Once they finally got in the ring together, Crusher tore him up. It was an inconclusive ending, as the referee didn't see Stevens lay Crusher out with a chair. However, he did see Valiant get the chair and nail Stevens with it, and gave the DQ win to Heenan's duo.
It's always an eventful time in the NWF! Looking forward to next week's show from New Castle, PA, you'll have the North American Title on the line, as The Sheik defends against Mad Dog Vachon in the main event! There will also two rematches from this show! Credible & Doring will get their tag match under elimination rules against Candido & Corino, and Don Leo Jonathan will have a chance at revenge as he squares off against Magnificent Muraco! There will also be a big debut, as New Jersey's finest invades the Steel Belt! King Kong Bundy returns to the NWF with tag-team partner Diamond Dallas Page! The Crusher and Jimmy Valiant will be in singles action against the Heenan Family, and much much more!
NOTE: After some lively debate, it was announced that the NWF Board has declared the tag-team titles vacant. Jimmy Snuka will be allowed to choose a new partner. Those two will then meet the Masked Executioners for the held-up championship at the Superbowl of Wrestling 4.
