Card #235 - 07/06/2007 The Aud - Buffalo, NY
We return to one of the NWF's three major venues with all kinds of fun stuff on the card, plus a big announcement of some new talent headed into the area! Let's get to the action...
1. Danny Doring b S.D. Jones Special Delivery was all over Doring until Dangerous Danny got a big reversal off a whip into the ropes with a knee to the side of Jones' head. With S.D. wobbling, Doring used the Danaconda to get the win.
2. Rick Rude & King Kong Bundy b Diamond Dallas Page & Cousin Luke With the new alliance of Bundy & Rude, DDP is going to need a tag partner to watch his back. However, he hasn't made a lot of friends in the locker room, and has to take whoever he can get as a tag partner for now. DDP looked great, but Luke was outclassed, despite doing some damage to Rude along the way. Finally, Rude & Bundy just hit a bunch of big moves on Luke and beat him after a Rude Awakening.
3. Ted DiBiase b Virgil After their match on June 8th, Virgil claimed "poor officiating" caused his loss. Virgil, who was DiBiase's bodyguard and tag partner from 2003 to early 2005, had one of his best performances, but it still wasn't enough to beat the former NWF and U.S. champion. DiBiase used the Figure 4 after taking a pretty good beating to get the win and stay undefeated since his return,
4. Bob Armstrong b Playboy Buddy Rose It looked like the illegal tactics of Rose and manager Sherri Martel would pay off once again as Playboy had the Bullet in trouble. Bob finally let some of that built up anger out, and turned things around. He used a bunch of the same questionable tactics against Rose to make a comeback and get a win with the Sleeper! Once again, he tried to get to Rose after the bell, but Buddy used Sherri as a shield to get away.
5. Larry & Curt Hennig b Antonino Rocca & Ilio DiPaolo Once again the Hennigs pull out a gritty win over the NWF's most popular duo. Rocca was doing well but got grounded and overpowered by Larry. Rocca finally made the tag, but using some creative (and not altogether legal) teamwork, the Hennigs isolated Ilio and Curt finished him with a devastating running knee to the head to keep their tag-team record "perfect."
As intermission ended, it was announced that the NWF had signed Al Costello & Roy Heffernan, the Fabulous Kangaroos! The world famous Australian team wil debut at SUMMER SHOWDOWN on August 11th along with manager Wild Red Berry! The Kangaroos claim to be the world's best technical wrestlers, and are noted for their innovative double-teaming skills.
6. Larry Zbyszko dq Missing Link Link has alligned himself with Williams & DiBiase, and is looking for any opportunity to get back at the Heenan Family that used and abused him as their bodyguard. Link was really fired up here, as he nailed Zbyszko with his finisher, but instead of going for the cover, grabbed his trademark steel chair instead! He walloped Zbyszko with a blistering chair shot for the DQ, then jumped out of the ring and chased Heenan back to the locker room.
7. Ivan Koloff b Jimmy Valiant Evil Russian Koloff took this match even though he faces The Sheik next week for the North American Title. With July 4th just passed, Valiant had the crowd chanting "USA" in what turned out to be a hard-hitting contest. Valiant took a beating, but kept fighting back. Albano twice saved Koloff from certain defeat. Koloff used every trick in the book, and won with a top rope kneedrop where it appeared he loaded his kneepad with some sort of object. The Russian Bear has yet to be pinned since his debut.
8. Steve Williams b Ray Stevens Williams is desperately looking for a match against NWF Champ Nick Bockwinkel. Bobby Heenan has said that if Williams can pin or submit both Stevens and Zbyszko, he can face Bockwinkel in Johnstown, PA on July 20th. Well, he's one step closer. Good match with some very close near falls for each man. It appeared Stevens was trying to get intentionally DQ'd since Heenan said Williams had to win by pinfall or submission. Doc kept stopping the ref from calling for the bell, and finally hit his third Oklahoma Stampede of the match to get the win.
9. NWF Tag-Team Championship: Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge b Flying Redheads Rematch between two teams of fan favorites, as the first bout ended with Hodge being counted out. Both Yukon and Lyons took an early beating. It wound up with Hodge and Lyons on the mat, with Hodge putting on a clinic in how to twist your opponent like a pretzel. Lyons got his shoulders counted down with an Oklahoma Sideroll, and the unlikely team of Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge have now put together the second longest tag title reign in NWF history!
Holy cow! Yukon & Hodge are on a roll! It looks like the tag-team ranks are going to heat up with the Hennigs and Kangaroos in the mix! Actually, with the win this evening, the Hennigs have been awarded the next tag title shot! But before we get to that, we have a couple of other shows to get through, including the big event at Pittsburgh next week! Here's the current lineup:
* Lou Albano will debut the man who will take Rick Rude's place in his stable! It is rumored to be a former Albano protege, but we'll find out for sure in Pittsburgh!
* The chair swinging Missing Link takes on Heenan Family member Ray Stevens in his quest for vengeance!
* In anticipation of the upcoming tag-team title bout, Yukon Eric will face Larry Hennig in a battle of barrel-chested powerhouses!
* DDP gets a chance to tackle nemesis King Kong Bundy's new partner Rick Rude! DDP will keep searching for a tag partner, but has to worry about this one-on-one confrontation next week!
* Steve Williams faces his second hurdle as he tries to get Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) in the ring! Former North American champ Larry Zbyszko stands in Doc's way! Zbyszko took down The Sheik, but can he handle Doctor Death?
* Your big main event will see a rematch between two of the most hated competitors in the NWF! Evil Russian Ivan Koloff challenges Syrian madman The Sheik for the North American Title! The Sheik barely escaped with a DQ win last time in a violent brawl! Don't expect technical matwork in this one NWF fans!
Keep watching! Another fantastic show is only seven days away!

*** NWF BREAKING NEWS *** I'll be posting more regularly after the 9/15 tax deadline, but for now: The war of words between Bobby Heenan and Lou Albano has heated up once again! Heenan's attention has recently been focused on the arrival of Ted DiBiase & Steve Williams, and the feud with Albano's stable was forced to the back burner. Now, Albano has called Heenan out to settle the score! It looks like the big blowoff will be on August 3rd at the Akron Armory - just one week before SUMMER SHOWDOWN! More detaIls will follow, but this will certainly be a big show on the road to the NWF's biggest event of the summer!

Card #236 - 07/13/2007 Civic Arena - Pittsburgh, PA
The NWF is back and rockin' after being sidetracked by a work deadline! Big matches for the Pittsburgh faithful, with Sheik facing Koloff, Armstrongs against Riviera Playboys and the second stage of Doctor Death's struggle to get his hands on Nick Bockwinkel! Let's get this going! Let's have some fun! More importantly - Let's get to the action...
1. Greg Valentine b S.D. Jones Lou Albano has brought Greg Valentine back to the NWF! The Hammer will take the spot recently vacated by Rick Rude. Valentine is no stranger to the NWF, having twice held the Tag-Team belts (w/Bob Orton Jr. in 2004 and w/Brutus Beefcake in 2006) and also the U.S. singles gold in 2003. He looked good in his return match, submitting S.D. with his Figure 4 Leglock.
2. Antonino Rocca & Ilio DiPaolo b Danny Doring & Virgil After a recent series of losses to the Hennigs, Rooca & Ilio had something to prove, and did a number on Doring & Virgil. The popular duo got the victory when Ilio finished Virgil with the Airplane Spin.
3. Ray Stevens b Mising Link Link was looking to continue his rampage against the Heenan Family, and put a hurting on Stevens. Stevens, no slouch when it comes to a brawl, returned the favor in this battle of hard hitters. Heenan got chased around by Link, but Stevens went to the pay window, winning with his third Bombs away of the match.
4. Mad Dog Vachon & Jimmy Valiant b Magnificent Muraco & Lou Albano This tag bout was a result of last week's match with Valiant losing a tough one to Albano's current top dog Ivan Koloff. Like all tag matches with Albano, he let his wrestler do 90% of the work, and only came in when the opponent was in big trouble. As usual, he also got caught in the opponent's comeback and pinned. This time it was Vachon doing the honors, planting Capt. Lou with the Piledriver.
5. Larry Hennig b Yukon Eric The Hennigs have been granted the next tag title shot at Yukon & Danny Hodge two weeks from now in Youngstown, OH. The two power men met in a straight ahead rumble where Yukon had everything going his way. The Axe was a bloody mess, and it looked like Yukon would cruise to victory. However, Curt interfered to break up a Kodiak Krunch, and Larry hit the Axe for the controversial victory to hand Yukon his first pinfall loss in 2007.
6. Rick Rude b Diamond Dallas Page DDP better keep looking for a tag-team partner, as the duo of Rude & Bundy is wearing him down physically. This was a close one, but Rude used a distraction from Bundy to hit a devastating top rope sledgehammer to take the fall.
7. Bob & Brad Armstrong dq Riviera Playboys Once again the Armstrongs really took charge of the action, but had to settle for a DQ win. Rose & Koko looked overmatched, and when Brad used the Russian Leg Sweep to put Ware down, Sherri Martel's blatant interference resulted in the DQ. You can just see the Bullet Bob doing the slow burn but refusing to attack Sherri.
8. Steve Williams b Larry Zbyszko Manager Bobby Heenan said that the only way Williams could get a match with NWF kingpin Nick Bockwinkel would be to pin or submit both Ray Stevens and Larry Zbyszko. Well, I'm betting the War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA is going to sellout pretty quick. Crazy match with big moves and finishers all over the place! Heenan did everything he could, but couldn't stop Doc's rampage! Finish saw Doc bury the Living Legend with a clothesline from the top rope. Bockwinkel, Stevens, Ted DiBiase and Missing Link all wound up in the ring after the three count, but it was mostly just pushing and posturing.
9. North American Championship: Ivan Koloff dq The Sheik No surprise that there wasn't a clear decision between these two for the second straight time. The Sheik took a beating in winning by DQ in the first meeting, but turned it up by attacking Koloff in the aisle before he was even introduced. That set the tone for the bout, which saw Sheik quickly DQ'd once the action reached the ring.
What a night! Steve Williams gets a huge win and The Sheik & Ivan Koloff go crazy! It's only going to get better as we head to Johnstown, PA next week! Here's the current lineup:
* Ivan Koloff will team with the Albano stable's newest addition Greg Valentine! Albano has the makings of a great team, as both are exceptional tag wrestlers as well as top flight singles competitors.
* Jimmy Valiant will square off against Magnificent Muraco! Muraco is still looking to shake the stigma of the Snuka losses, and would like to take his frustration out on the Boogie Woogie Man!
* We saw the powerhouses on this card, and next week we'll the technicians as Danny Hodge faces Curt Hennig in a prelude to the tag title bout in two weeks!
* The Armstrongs will once again take on the Riviera Playboys! Bob Armstrong gets more frustrated every week, but is he just a pawn in Sherri Martel's master plan?
* Ted DiBiase & the Missing Link join forces to battle the Heenan Family duo of Ray Stevens & Larry Zbyszko! Tempers are already flying between these opposing teams! And this one leads us to the finale!
* Your big main event will be NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) defending against Steve "Dr. Death" Williams is the first meeting between the two!
Get ready NWF fans, the best is yet to come!

*** NWF BREAKING NEWS *** Bobby Heenan is a no good scoundrel! Okay, that's not a startling revelation. But this is - Heenan and his gaggle of attorneys have had NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel's match against Steve Williams on July 20th changed to a non-title encounter! The reasoning is that Williams has only been in the NWf for a short time and hasn't proven himself yet (not sure what that says as he's beaten two of Heenan's men already). The word is that Doc will have to defeat Bockwinkel in order to earn a title shot at a later date. Clearly, Heenan and Bockwinkel are playing head games with Dr. Death, who has been waiting to get Bockwinkel in the ring ever since the World League Challenge early in 2007. Williams has blown through every obstacle that Heenan has thrown in his path, but can he beat the most dominant champion in NWF history?

Card #237 - 07/20/2007 War Memorial Arena - Johnstown, PA
The announcement that Bobby Heenan had the Bockwinkel vs. Williams main event changed to a non-title match didn't put much of a damper on the sold out crowd in Johnstown. The fans were ready to see the Oklahoma powerhouse tear into the hated champ. Let's get to the action...
1. Antonino Rocca b Danny Doring The popular Rocca dominated this one, although Doring made a short-lived comeback when the referee was inadvertantly knocked out. Rocca used the Backbreaker for the win.
2. Greg Valentine & Ivan Koloff b S.D. Jones & Cousin Luke Impressive debut for the newest Albano tag-team with the Russian Bear pinning S.D. Jones with the falling face slam. The Captain has stated that he feels both men can win individual championships as well as tag gold in the NWF.
3. Magnificent Muraco b Jimmy Valiant Good night for Albano's stable as Muraco put a hurtin' on the Boogie Woogie Man. Valiant just shows incredible heart in every match, as it takes a lot to finally pin his shoulders. It was the Hawaiian Hammer that did Valiant in, but only after he survived numerous other pin attempts.
4. Danny Hodge b Curt Hennig Great bout between these two smooth mat technicians. Big moves and near falls all over the place as a prelude to the Hennigs' tag title shot next week. Larry Hennig got booted from ringside by the referee after tripping Hodge off the ropes. Curt hurt his back taking a wild spill over the top rope, and Hodge worked it over the rest of the bout, finishing him with the Boston Crab.
5. Riviera Playboys b Bob & Brad Armstrong Yet another example of the Armstrongs controlling the action but getting screwed at the finish. Once again, it was Sherri Martel holding Bob's leg as Rose hit the Bombs Away for the victory. Bullet chased her around the ring a couple of times until she took off down the aisle. Bob challenged the Playboys to a tag match next week where no one is allowed at ringside.
6. Ilio DiPaolo b Larry Hennig Rematch from the double DQ from June 29th. Great battle of power guys that saw lots of hard hitting offense. Ilio had it won when Curt interfered. It kept going back and forth until it appeared Larry had it won with The Axe, but Yukon Eric distracted. Besides the tag match next week, Hennig became the first man to pin Yukon in 2007 last week. Hennig climbed up on the buckle to taunt Yukon but Ilio recovered, grabbed him and put him in the Airplane Spin to get the win.
7. Diamond Dallas Page b King Kong Bundy This was the first time a fully healed DDP met Bundy in singles action since their split. Early on, Bundy ran over DDP like a bulldozer. Page came back with a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere for a really close near fall. Later, Bundy went to charge DDP in the corner, but DDP bailed out just in time, and Bundy fell through the ropes onto partner Rick Rude on the floor. As a disoriented Bundy climbed back through the ropes, DDP hit another Diamond Cutter for the win.
8. Ray Stevens & Larry Zbyszko dq Ted DiBiase & Missing Link After Link took an early beating, DiBiase lit up Zbyszko, busting him open with the Black Glove. Stevens had to carry the action while his partner recovered. DiBiase was on fire and Link was...well...crazy. It was a great brawl until Magnificent Muraco, Ivan Koloff & Greg Valentine all hit the ring to beat on the Heenan Family members. Albano wants his stable's feud with Heenan to reach a conclusive finish, and this may have been his way of saying "don't forget about your unfinished business" to Heenan. Both managers got into some verbal sparring about the upcoming final showdown in two weeks at Akron, just seven days before SUMMER SHOWDOWN!
9. Steve Williams b NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) (non-title) A wild non-title bout set up by the animosity that has been building since the World League Challenge at the start of the year. Bockwinkel set the tone early with lots of subtle dirty tactics that are his trademark. Just when it looked like Bockwinkel had it won with the Sleeper, the Missing Link attacked Bobby Heenan, distracting Bockwinkel and allowing Doc to power out of the move. From that point, it was all Dr. Death, who used the Oklahoma Stampede three straight times and soon after hit two backdrop drivers, the second of which was good for the pin. Crowd went berserk, as this was the worst beating Bockwinkel has taken in recent memory.
There you have it! Another night of great NWF action that will have the whole territory talking! Next week we get one step closer to SUMMER SHOWDOWN with a show at the Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown, Ohio! Here's the current lineup:
* Diamond Dallas Page will have to find himself a partner in the locker room, as he'll be facing King Kong Bundy & Rick Rude! DDP hasn't exactly endeared himself to a lot of people, so it may not be an easy task.
* Mad Dog Vachon will try to show Magnificent Muraco that Youngstown is a Dog Eat Dog city as those two competitors clash!
* The Armstrongs will get their wish, as they meet the Riviera Playboys once again, but with no one allowed at ringside! Sherri Martel wasn't happy about the stipulation, and both Rose and Koko looked a little nervous!
* Ted DiBiase will square off against tough veteran and Heenan Family member Ray Stevens! DiBiase can mix it up, but can he stand toe to toe with barroom brawler Stevens?
* The big blowoff between Albano and Heenan is coming in two weeks! While details have yet to be announced, next week will see a key match that is bound to swing the momentum in one team's favor! Lou Albano and Bobby Heenan will meet one-on-one in the ring! The loser will be barred from ringside during the Akron show! This is a big match that neither side can afford to lose!
* Your big main event will see the NWF Tag-Team titles on the line as Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge look to continue their long title reign as they face Larry & Curt Hennig!
It's a great time for the NWF, as we roll toward SUMMER SHOWDOWN in just three short weeks!

Well post it already the NWF's #1 fan demands it. Patience is a virtue. Meanwhile... ***NWF BREAKING NEWS *** It looks like the big showdown in Akron between the Albano stable and the Heenan Family will be an elimination style six-man tag bout! Ordinarily, any type of tag match would seem to be an advantage for Albano, but with Bockwinkel & Stevens as a top team, and Zbyszko being noted as a great tag wrestler as well, it makes the odds about even. The match between the managers next week may be the key to winning! The Fabulous Kangaroos and manager Red Berry are touting themselves as the best technical wrestling team in the world, and have provided several clips that showcase their unique moves and double-teaming skills. One team in the NWF that isn't overly impressed is the Flying Redheads. They have dug up some clips of the Kangaroos resorting to all kinds of illegal tactics, including having Berry attack opponents with his cane! SUMMER SHOWDOWN update! * A great North American Title bout has been signed! The Sheik and Ivan Koloff have split DQ wins, so they will meet for a third time under Texas Death rules! * The Fabulous Kangaroos will make their NWF debut! * Negotiations are ongoing regarding NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) defending the title against "Dr. Death" Steve Williams! Bobby Heenan has refused to discuss the topic until after his match with Lou Albano next week! Fans are eagerly waiting for this match - will Heenan find a way to "weasel" out of it again? * As a special added attraction, the Eighth Wonder of the World - Andre the Giant - will make his first appearance in the NWF!

Card #238 – 07/27/2007 Stambaugh Auditorium – Youngstown, OH
A big night for the NWF in Youngstown! The Hennigs try to stop the tag title reign of Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge while managers Lou Albano and Bobby Heenan square off in the ring to determine who gets the advantage on next weeks big elimination tag match! Let’s get to the action…
1. Cousin Luke b Danny Doring Luke was all over Doring from the opening bell and got the win with the Hillbilly Drop. Virgil tried to break up the pin, but S.D. Jones ran him off.
2. Antonino Rocca b Virgil Virgil had asked for this match after Rocca took Doring to school last week. The popular Rocca dominated, and after a near fall with a victory roll, got the submission win with the Backbreaker.
3. Rick Rude & King Kong Bundy b Diamond Dallas Page & S.D. Jones The only partner DDP could find was Philadelphia’s favorite son, S.D. Jones. Page has alienated a lot of wrestlers with his brash nature. DDP tried a plancha early, but crashed and burned. Rude & Bundy tore him up, and Jones never even got in the ring. Finish saw Rude holding DDP in the corner, allowing Bundy to hit the Avalanche and get his infamous 5 count for the win. After the bout, DDP said he would be looking for a regular tag-team partner.
4. Greg Valentine b Jimmy Valiant The history between these two dates back to when the Valiant Brothers and the Dream Team were both managed by Albano. Capt. Lou and the Dream Team double crossed the Valiants, leading to Jimmy & Johnny coming out on the short end of a Loser Leaves Town match. This bout got a little crazy, with Boogie giving Valentine all he could handle. Valiant missed a kneedrop, which led to the Figure 4 Leglock victory for the Hammer. Mad Dog Vachon hit the ring after the bell to make sure no one did any more damage to Valiant.
5. Riviera Playboys b Bob & Brad Armstrong (No One Allowed at Ringside) The first really hot match of the night. Sherri Martel was barred from ringside, which should have given the Armstrongs the edge. The Playboys got caught with a combined four foreign objects during the pre-match check by the referee. Rose & Koko still had enough dirty tricks up their sleeves to get a tainted win. Brad had Koko pinned, but Rose had a fifth object hidden somewhere (don’t ask – don’t tell). He was able to KO Brad with it and drape Koko on top while the ref was putting an irate Bullet Bob out of the ring which resulted in the victory.
6. Bobby Heenan dq Capt. Lou Albano (Loser Banned from Next Week’s Show) Next week is the big elimination tag-team bout between Albano’s stable (Muraco, Valentine & Koloff) and the Heenan Family (Bockwinkel, Stevens & Zbyszko). The loser of this bout would be banned from the building, giving the victor a huge advantage. Crowd loved this one, and wanted to both managers get beaten up. The entire Heenan Family ran out at one point to save Bobby, followed closely by Albano’s men. Bockwinkel hit Albano with the NWF belt, but the ref was busy with Capt. Lou’s men. Muraco pulled Heenan out of the ring and clotheslined him, which the ref did see. That gave Heenan the DQ victory and a huge team advantage in next week’s match!
7. Magnificent Muraco b Mad Dog Vachon Second amazing match of the night, as these two just lit each other up. A wild bloodbath that will most likely lead to Vachon & Valiant being the next target of Albano’s wrath. It was a match with big moves, missed moves, near falls and edge of your seat drama the whole way. Each had a close call with dueling Piledriver finishers. The finish saw Vachon miss a Mad Dog Pounce and Muraco hoist him up in an over the shoulder backbreaker for the win. Both were bloodied and exhausted at the end of this contest.
8. Ted DiBiase b Ray Stevens DiBiase was fired up, and has looked great in the ring since his return. Stevens got bounced around like a pinball. Heenan did what he could to help, but Stevens could never fully capitalize on any advantages. This was a long bout that DiBiase’s Black Glove finally put to an end. That wasn’t the end though, as Zbyszko hit the ring, and he and Stevens did a number on DiBiase before Steve Williams and the Missing Link ran in to stop the assault. It looks like DiBiase will be out for 4-5 weeks with the injury.
9. NWF Tag-Team Championship: Larry & Curt Hennig b Yukon Eric & Danny Hodge to win titles Potential tag-team Match of the Year candidate. Yukon & Hodge came in with the second longest tag title reign in NWF history and had never lost a match by pinfall or submission. The Hennigs came in with an undefeated record, and several victories over the area’s most popular combo of Rocca & Ilio DiPaolo. This was a high impact match with finishers all over the place! Yukon had taken the least damage of anyone, but got brutalized late in the bout. Larry was carrying the action for his team, as Curt had been battered early on. Curt was still doing his best to interfere and do whatever else he could in the corner while recovering. The end came when Curt was choking Yukon fro the apron with the tag rope. Larry did a running Axe into Yukon to end the spectacular run of the NWF’s most unlikely tag champions.
Three great matches for the fans in Youngstown! That brings us to the big Albano/Heenan showdown in Akron next week, with SUMMER SHOWDOWN right around the corner! Here’s the current lineup for next week:
* DDP will once again try to find a partner as he faces King Kong Bundy & Rick Rude in tag-team action!
* Ilio DiPaolo will face Curt Hennig, as it appears there is still some bad blood between these teams. New tag champ Hennig has a great rep as a singles competitor – can he take down one of the NWF’s most popular grapplers?
* Yukon Eric squares off against Larry Hennig one-on-one! These were the two men involved in the finish of the tag-team title switch – will Yukon get a little taste of revenge against another powerhouse?
* Your big main event will be the “Final Showdown” between the Albano and Heenan factions in a huge Elimination Tag-Team match! Each side has a lot to lose, especially NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel (boo!) and North American Title challenger Ivan Koloff, who have big matches scheduled a week later at SUMMER SHOWDOWN! Can Albano’s group pull off the upset without having the Guiding Light in their corner?
Big things ahead, and expect a SUMMER SHOWDOWN update shortly! See you next week!

Big win by the Hennigs! Will they have their first defense at Summer Showdown.
2 big matches for Bock the next 2 weeks. Doc is hoping he gets softened up for him. Could be the end of a long reign for the champ if he isn't careful.
I'm looking forward to the full lineup of SS.

Card #239 – 08/03/2007 Akron Armory – Akron, OH
What a show! The final confrontation between the Albano and Heenan groups only a week before the NWF’s annual SUMMER SHOWDOWN supercard next week! Let’s get to the action…
1. S.D. Jones b “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe A rough debut for the arrogant Sharpe. He got in some good moves, but eventually fell victim to Jones’ Headbutt.
2. Danny Hodge b George South Another debut gone awry, as South was mauled by the former tag champ and mat technician, who won with the Oklahoma Sideroll.
3. Antonino Rocca & Cousin Luke b Danny Doring & Virgil Doring & Virgil, both recently defeated by Rocca in singles matches recently, challenged him to a tag match. With regular partner Ilio DiPaolo already booked on the show, Rocca chose Hillbilly Cousin Luke as his partner for the night. Rocca looked great, but Luke got caught in the wrong corner and was doubled-teamed and soon pinned by Doring’s Danaconda.
4. Koko B. Ware b Red Bastien Just as the match began, Bob Armstrong came to the ring, threw Sherri Martel over his shoulder and carried her to the back. That threw Koko off, and it wasn’t until Buddy Rose showed up at ringside that he was able to mount an offense. With Rose distracting, Koko used a Ghostbuster to score the upset win.
5. King Kong Bundy & Rick Rude b Diamond Dallas Page & Brad Armstrong DDP found a somewhat reluctant partner in Brad Armstrong for this match. Not having made friends in the locker room is really hurting DDP. Still, it looked like the DDP/Armstrong combo was on their way to victory when Bundy interfered on a pin attempt by DDP, allowing Rude to escape and make the tag. Later, Bundy crushed Brad with an Avalanche to keep the team undefeated.
6. Curt Hennig b Ilio DiPaolo Despite the Hennigs getting the best of their bouts with DiPaolo & Rocca, there is still some animosity between the teams. This was an exciting match where neither man could keep the other down for long. Finally, it was the Hennig-Plex that got the controversial three count, as the referee appeared to miss Ilio’s foot draped on the bottom rope.
7. Bob Armstrong dq Playboy Buddy Rose Bullet Bob continues to bottle up his anger toward the Playboys and Sherri Martel. This time, the action was pretty intense, and there were several warnings and near DQ’s. The referee decided he had seen enough when Rose posted Armstrong while the two were fighting on the floor and called for the bell. Rose began playing to the crowd, but Bob shook off the cobwebs, and Buddy & Sherri were off to the races as he chased them down the aisle.
8. Yukon Eric dq Larry Hennig Hennig is the only man with a pinfall victory over Yukon in 2007, as was looking for his second in this match. This one had the crowd fired up, especially due to the controversial tag title change last week. Another match with several warnings from the ref as neither man would back down from the other. Eventually, Hennig got very blatant about his cheating and was DQ’d. Yukon was claiming that the DQ was intentional as the momentum was definitely not favoring Hennig at the time. The tag title rematch between these teams should be a barn burner!
9. Final Showdown: Magnificent Muraco, Greg Valentine & Ivan Koloff b Nick Bockwinkel, Ray Stevens & Larry Zbyszko (Elimination Tag Match) The Albano/Heenan ordeal dates back to an altercation on March 2nd that led to a bunch of wild matches between the groups. Albano saw his Masked Executioners booted from the NWF after a “Losers Leave Town” tag match against Bockwinkel & Stevens. He also didn’t have the use of Muraco for most of the time, as the Magnificent One was embroiled in a feud with Jimmy Snuka. Heenan blamed Albano for Zbyszko’s loss of the North American title in what became an escalating series of encounters. Recently, with Ted DiBiase and Steve Williams making their presence felt, Heenan looked at Albano as a secondary problem, but the Captain pressed the issue and the result was this match. Last week, in a rare in-ring battle of the managers, Heenan got a DQ win that meant Albano would not be allowed in the building for this huge blowoff! Once the bell rang, things got out of hand.
The first fall was a marathon, with everyone seeing action, and no one wanting to be the first to be eliminated. Everyone but Muraco was bleeding before anyone was put out. The end of the first fall saw both Muraco and Zbyszko DQ’d for brawling, leaving neither side with an advantage. It came down to the veteran team of Bockwinkel & Stevens versus Albano’s latest team of Koloff & Valentine, with all four in rough shape. It was a great second fall for Koloff & Valentine, as they isolated Stevens in their corner and took turns pounding him into a bloody mess. Koloff finally pinned him with a modified chokeslam to make it a 2 on 1 bout against the NWF Champion Nick Bockwinkel! Heenan was going ballistic at this point, seeing the victory that he thought was a foregone conclusion slowly falling apart. The third fall saw a weary Bockwinkel get a quick advantage on the Russian Bear, but it didn’t last long. Heenan, knowing that Bockwinkel may have a huge title defense against Steve Williams in seven days, jumped in the ring as soon as Koloff started making a comeback. He got Bockwinkel intentionally DQ’d to save the champ for the title match, giving Albano’s team the big upset win!
The craziness wasn’t over yet, as Koloff’s SUMMER SHOWDOWN opponent The Sheik hit the ring from out of nowhere! The Russian Bear and the Syrian madman exchanged punches briefly before a boatload of security stormed the ring and eventually broke up the brawl between the two and send us into SUMMER SHOWDOWN next week!
There you have it NWF fans! A huge, yet bittersweet victory for Lou Albano! Bobby Heenan and his attorneys are continuing to pressure the NWF Board about the proposed title match with Steve Williams. More will be known within the next 48 hours. Here are three more matches signed for nex tweek’s SUMMER SHOWDOWN:
* In a rematch from earlier tonight, Yukon Eric will face Larry “the Axe” Hennig! In addition, Danny Hodge will face Curt Hennig! Yukon & Hodge are looking forward to their return match for the tag belts on August 17th in Niagara Falls!
* Mad Dog Vachon & Jimmy Valiant will square off against Magnificent Muraco & Greg Valentine in tag action! Will the Albano stable suffer a letdown after tonight’s huge win, or will it act as a catalyst to take them to even greater heights?

Summer Showdown sounds great...Will you incorporate a Junior/Cruiser/Light-Hwt. division into the LWF?

Summer Showdown sounds great...Will you incorporate a Junior/Cruiser/Light-Hwt. division into the LWF? It's not in the cards for the near future. I will sometimes bring in the "World Jr. Heavyweight Champion" to face someone on a big show as a special attraction. Actually, I'm planning to do just that for Card #250 in October (NWF time).
