Welcome over to the new thread for my updates on my feds, the USPWL, ESW and GWF.
Our first update in our new slot is from the USPWL.
Sgt. Slaughter has defeated Red Bastien to become the new USPWL champion after making the Flying Redhead submit in the Cobra Clutch. This victory, scored at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX, marked the first title change under the new 'executive committee' that replaced Commissioner Bill Watts.
Slaughter's celebration was short lived, however, as Terry Funk came out and brawled with the newly minted champ until the man from the Double Cross Ranch pile drove him through the FoxNet broadcast table! Slaughter was stretchered out and Funk was immediately suspended by the new Executive Committee.
The Destroyer won the final of the USPWL United States Championship by pinning Playboy Buddy Rose, but he, too, has been suspended by the Committee for post bell violence. Destroyer, vowing he was going to 'live up to his name' proceeded to beat Rose bloody with the new belt, then executed a death jump with the belt to the Playboy before referee Randy Anderson and security could intervene. An announcement by E.C. rep Sylvester Stallone is expected at the next TV taping on whether Destroyer will have the belt taken from him.
Tag champs the Rock'n'Roll Express celebrated their new freedom by battling the Nasty Boys in what many are calling the best tag team match in the league so far. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson survived a early beat down, a chain attack and interference by Nasty mgr. Jimmy Hart to retain their titles.
Intercontinental Champion Sting and Light Heavyweight Champion Frank Gotch also retained their titles with wins, and Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert upset Abyss in the opening match.
