Has anyone been watching the latest ROH releases?
Richards has become a really great heel and went from boring to awesome in just a few months time! Stuff like kicking people's outstretched hands on his way to the ring, spitting on Homicide, refusing to shake hands (then attacking when the opponent turn their back), taking Homicide's bandana and wearing it, when the crowd heckled him saying Mochizuki was going to kick his butt: "You think this Jap is going to do anything to me?".
He always looked pretty brutal for a short guy, but now he's become on of my favorite wrestlers. Now if we could get Roderick Strong some help.

One of the best things he has been saying lately is "I'm Still Winning!" whenever his opponent fights back.

Well his original hype was much like Low Ki. He has that Japanese style that the kids are in to. The thing is Richards has moved beyond that and has developed his character and style in the ring to become not just someone who is copying puro but who has his own style. He is yet another example of ROH really being able to find the next stars that they can use on their shows.

That's right mojo, and that's why I'm so happy with Richards progress and bummed out by Roderick Strong. All I see from Strong is a hard-hitting wrestler... and that's it. He was fine as a face, but he doesn't have the character to pull off being a heel. I can't really stomach the strong-style wrestling minus personality.
What do you guys think about Roderick Strong?

Huge fan of Richards and Strong. Hell, I love the entire NRC from a wrestling standpoint. And considering what Strong and Aries were able to accomplish as tag champs, coupled with his series against Dragon last year, I don't see how some one can not be a huge fan of Roddy.

He's awful in interviews and is terribly unconvincing as a heel. His "cocky smile" makes me look like a big weiner that can't act. I'd like him to mature in the ring and show a little more emotion and work some psychology. He can put on a good match and he works well in a tag situation, but I can't get into him at all. Seriously one of the few guys I'll skip over while watching an ROH show. Just my opinion, though.

Strong is by no means great on the microphone, but he seems to be pulling off his new character pretty well according to many I have spoken with. I have to admit I am a bit behind on my ROH shows, so I cannot fairly comment on his antics in Detroit during WM weekend.
However, he brings with him credibility from being able to get it done in the ring, which is what ROH is about anyway. The Briscoes are not masters on the microphone either, but their work in the ring more than makes up for any deficiencies as "actors". And this is why people like us love ROH, as getting over in the ring is much more important than silly skits and interviews, although the rare talent that can do both is certainly something that is welcomed.

Getting it done in the ring means more than just working hard, though. Strong doesn't come across as a credible heel IN THE RING. He seems phony and that's very distracting. And if a guy that can't work the mic cuts a promo every other show then it certainly does matter how his skills are in that area. Strong is supposed to be this terrible heel now, but he doesn't fit the role at all. He supposedly the leader of the No Remorse Corps, but Richards far away seems the most qualified to fill that role with his charisma and in-ring skills.
The Briscoes tell a great story in the ring. In my opinion Strong does not. I watch every ROH show within days of release and I'm bored to death by him. The Briscoes work with a passion, and Strong wouldn't know passion if it enzuigiri'd him upside the head. Yeah Strong knows wrestling moves and how to make them look brutal... but can he make me care?

Well, he certainly makes me care about his matches, as they are highlights of each ROH show for me more often than not. In fact, his style in the ring seems MORE suited to a heel that has over time learned his lessons in the ring and is now determined to take his career one step further by any means necessary. I think his work over the next year will correspond very well to his run in late 05 and 06, where he was clearly being positioned as a top of the card face that couldn't take the next step without the assistance of his fellow Gen Nexter Aries.
The moves, as you said, are definitely there, and the way he incorporates narratives from his previous matches should make his NRC run very entertaining, partiuclarly when he meets up with past opponents. I think his storytelling in the ring is on par with the best workers in ROH currently, at least it was during his run in 06. When I see more of FYF and WM weekend I may feel differently, but Strong has given me little reason to doubt his abilities thus far IMO. I care very much about Strong and the NRC faction, and I believe that this storyline shall be very entertaining, particularly if/when Aries returns from wrestling hell/purgatory.
