Here is a preview from the ROH site Jim Steel.
Should be a fantastic time.
"GBH VII" Preview
Thursday, September 18, 2008
"Glory By Honor" is ROH's first annual event and it has supplied plenty of history. If you go through the years you see all the memories. Now this year's edition is set to go down on September 20th at the historic New Alhambra/former ECW Arena in South Philadelphia and it promises to be the most memorable one yet (tickets at
www.ROHwrestling.com or at the door on the night of the show).
Remember when Samoa Joe made his ROH debut and immediately set the tone in that historic bout? How about when the legendary Terry Funk wrestled in ROH for his only match against CM Punk. Were you there when Mick Foley had his ROH debut? There is no way you could have missed Bryan Danielson's ROH World Title win in a wrestling clinic against James Gibson. How about Danielson vs. KENTA? We know you saw Mitsuharu Misawa put on a great performance last year. Now ROH is looking to bring the atmosphere of the good old days back to Swanson & Ritner and add to these "Glory By Honor" moments.
This year's card is stacked with major titles on the line from four different promotions, the return of one of the building's best wrestlers, Steel Cage Warfare, very special guests from Japan and more. Here is the skinny on each match:
Steel Cage Warfare (click this link for the rules:
www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=516)Austin Aries & The Briscoes vs. Jimmy Jacobs, Tyler Black & Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher
The issues in this one are intense. Aries and Jacobs want to destroy each other physically, mentally and emotionally. It has been exactly one year since The Age Of The Fall of Jacobs, Black & Necro Butcher made their shocking debut and hung Jay Briscoe so it was raining blood in Chicago. As you can see by the lastest ROH Video Wire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJaX4eq4vBQ) Necro Butcher wants no part of anyone and is the wildcard in this situation. The unique rules create countless possibilities in this war. A year's worth of intricate stories and vicious attacks come to a head on September 20th in Philadelphia for Steel Cage Warfare.
Special Attraction Match
GHC Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki vs. Claudio Castagnoli
This is a rare opportunity to see Kensuke Sasaki in the United States as this legend faces Claudio Castagnoli, who comes into this bout with a big chip on his shoulder. Sasaki recently won the GHC Heavyweight Title from Takeshi Morishima and made history by being the only man to hold NOAH's top belt, New Japan's top prize in the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and All Japan's top championship The Triple Crown. Castagnoli is looking to prove that he has a new attitude. He will showcase his athletic skills by matching power with Sasaki. This is a true heavyweight battle. It is a non-title match.
ROH World Title Match
Nigel McGuinness or Roderick Strong vs. El Generico
Nigel McGuinness and Roderick Strong will compete for the ROH World Title at the PPV taping the night before in Boston. The winner in Boston will put the championship on the line 24 hours later against El Generico. While it would be an upset if Generico won, his unique offense makes Generico capable of defeating anyone on any given night. He showed a great deal of heart in taking a lot of punishment from McGuinness in Cleveland. In fact, Generico came so close to pinning the World Champion that he earned this rematch. The loser of the Boston contest will still compete in Philly.
GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title Match
Bryan Danielson vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima
Bryan Danielson won the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title on September 14th from Yoshinobu Kanemaru on ROH's second night in Tokyo. It was an emotional moment for Danielson and the Japanese fans, who greatly respect Bryan. Before "American Dragon" won the title he requested this bout against Nakajima. In fact, as soon as Danielson heard Nakajima was coming to ROH he called ROH officials and asked for this bout. Now that "The Best Wrestler In The World" has the prestigious GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title he will prove to be a fighting champion. It will be on the line at "Glory By Honor VII" in Philly. Nakajima is called the hardest kicker in all of wrestling by many who have been in the ring with him and he has risen to become Japan's newest star. He could win his first major title in Philadelphia. Danielson has a tremendous track record at "Glory By Honor" and now he is looking to add to his legacy on September 20th.
NWA World Heavyweight Title
Brent Albright vs. Adam Pearce
Brent Albright defeated Adam Pearce in one for the ages at ROH's "Death Before Dishonor VI" in August to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Now Albright is looking to add to the history of the belt that has been held by Lou Thesz, Ric Flair, The Funks, Ricky Steamboat and so many other hall of famers. Pearce simply wants what he perceives as his title back. It was an epic battle the first time they met and now the rematch is set in this grudge battle. The NWA World Heavyweight Title is looking to return to glory in the building where it suffered its greatest disgrace when its on the line in one of ROH's hottest feuds.
FIP World Heavyweight Title
Go Shiozaki vs. Kevin Steen
ROH's sister organization FIP has a new champion in Go Shiozaki and he will make his first defense at "Glory By Honor VII." A tough challenger has emerged in Kevin Steen, who is coming off the momentum of defeating FIP Tag Team Champion Kenny King in August. Steen has a lot on the line here as a win will set him up with a fulltime spot in FIP. Shiozaki strives to add to his reputation and have a respectable title reign so his stock will rise in Japan. Steen defeated Shiozaki earlier this year. Can he do it again and go to Florida as the FIP World Heavyweight Champion?
Special Challenge Match
Jerry Lynn vs. Kenny King
Jerry Lynn will return to the building where he has had some of his greatest matches to face the brash upstart Kenny King. Who will ever forget Lynn vs. RVD or Justin Credible or Lance Storm in the former ECW Arena? Now King, a member of The YRR (Young, Rich & Ready For Action), wants to make his name at Lynn's expense in the building where Lynn became a star. Does Lynn still have what it takes against the very athletic King?
Special Attraction Match
Erick Stevens vs. Rhett Titus
Stevens is trying to rebound from losing the FIP World Heavyweight Title in his home state of Florida for a second time. Some say this loss might have killed his confidence. Rhett "Addicted To Love" Titus is a talent on the rise. Can Titus score the biggest win of his career and climb the ranks or will Stevens get momentum back?
Bonus Tag Team Match
Jigsaw & Ruckus vs. Chris Hero & Eddie Edwards
The Vulture Squad of Jigsaw & Ruckus will face Chris Hero & Eddie Edwards from Sweet & Sour Inc. in what looks to be a very even match. Jigsaw & Ruckus bring excitement to every card with their high-flying skills. Hero has dubbed himself "That Young Knock Out Kid" and has proven he can KO anyone at anytime. Edwards is fulfilling his promise as Larry Sweeney's top prospect. This one could determine what team gets a future ROH World Tag Team Title shot.
Plus there will be so much more on the card with Sweeney, Sara Del Rey, Shane Hagadorn, Bobby Dempsey, Daizee Haze and others!!!
"Glory By Honor" gets bigger and bigger every year as ROH always pulls out all the stops for this major event. Now ROH wants to add to the legacy of the former ECW Arena when "Glory By Honor VII" takes place on September 20th in South Philly. Get your tickets at the door and experience it for yourself!!!
