In a shocking turn of events, Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. has decided to cancel his upcoming and much anticipated rematch against Oscar De La Hoya and instead has announced his retirement from the world of professional boxing.
In a statement reprinted on ESPN.com, Mayweather says, "It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today. I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make, as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport."
Mayweather's last big PPV bout was actually for the WWE when he won his match at Wrestlemania 24 against The Big Show by knocking the former WWE/WCW/ECW Champion out with brass knucks.
