I'm painting today. With a kid on the way I decided it was time to do stuff myself instead of paying somebody to do it. I'm all set to go and just realized, this is going to suck!!

My wife and I are totally DIYers, to the point that we're even going to homeschool our sons. But yeah, the money you save is spent in time to do the project. But when we were able to say that we built a deck with a ramp on it so that Grandma can get in our house to see the kids, it felt real good. And you don't have to deal with anybody else's screw-ups but your own!

And you don't have to deal with anybody else's screw-ups but your own! When I lived at home, my dad and myself built a deck. Pain in the ass, but worth it later on, esp. when I bought their house. Fun to go out on a summer night when it's cooled off...just playing COTG and listening to some music. But I'm sure Havoc was talking about painting the kids room. Can't tell you how much kid room fixing up I've did over the past 5 years. Ughhhh

It's official. I fucking hate painting.
Two questions for pro's
1. I was not painting the ceiling but bumped it in four places with the roller. Do I - A. Find some way to remove it, if there is any??, B. I have more paint, paint the ceiling C. Say fuck it, when all the furniture's in it, nobody's really going to notice.
2. It was a shade of green and in a couple of places if you look close you can see a few specks of white. Do I A. Paint a second coat (I have the paint but really don't want to paint around the trim and edges again) B. Just roll over those areas (or will that make it look stupid being done after it's dried) C. Say fuck it, when all the furniture's in it, nobody's really going to notice.

I'm sure you can guess what I'd say! ....pstttt, whatever ends up being easiest!!

Well, I know what MY answer would be (and I also know what my wife's answer would be). I'm assuming this means option C for both. I'm thinking of doing the ceiling. I don't mind using the roller. Trying to go around the edges and the baseboards sucks balls.

Try using a brush on the baseboards and corners havoc.

I'd do the ceiling but not the other one. Just place pictures and knick knacks or whatever judiciously and probably no one will notice.

I concur with you: I fucking hate housepainting.

But here's what's worse than housepainting: getting a steamer out to remove wallpaper, then spackling the dents and crap, sanding them down, and then painting. Been there done that waaaaay too many times in our house.

I hate painting too... not the actual painting so much, but the prep work.
My suggestions to Havoc:
On the ceiling, I'd probably leave it.. I think in alot of cases it looks kinda weird to have the ceiling the same color as the walls,, and few people are gonna examine your work.
As to the spots, I'd do the 2nd coat... doing spots will make it worse, I know this from experience. The coving the bad spots thing works too, until Mrs. Havoc wants to re-arrange the living room, then she's say "Hey, let's paint again" (again, I speak from experience) I'd just go with the 2nd coat now and get it over with.

instead of painting, just buy a new house with the colors you like.

Heh, with the housing market the way it is, that might actually save you money too.
