The votes are in and Barry Bonds is set to start the All Star Game again
What do you guys think? Does he deserve to be there this year?

I mentioned this in another thread, but I personally absolutely believe that Barry Bonds deserves to be in this year's All Star Game.
There is a rule that says every team needs to have at least 1 representative in the All Star Game and Barry Bonds is still the best player on the San Francisco Giants. There also isn't another hitter that opposing pitchers fear more than Bonds and I think it is great for San Francisco, where this year's All Star Game is being held, that Bonds (who mentioned tonight on Sportscenter that this could possibly be his last All Star Game) gets to be an All Star starter on his home field in the same year that he is going to break the all time home run record.
I went to a Giants game two years ago at AT & T Park in San Francisco and Bonds at the time was on the DL. But even so, there were still lots of fans in the stadium screaming his name. They love Barry in San Francisco and its great for them that Bonds will be in the All Star Game there this year.

Vegas is pretty much on point here, and I say this as someone who is not typically a fan of Bonds.
However, as far as the "one player per team" requirement, I suppose one could make the argument that Matt Cain should be an All-Star, despite his won-loss record. Other than that, if not Bonds, then who?

There is a rule that says every team needs to have at least 1 representative in the All Star Game and Barry Bonds is still the best player on the San Francisco Giants. Unfortunately, that is correct. However, the fact that baseball fans voted him in as a starter is a tremendous disappointment to me.

I don't like the guy. But yeah, he should play. It's the meaningless All-Star Game, which I haven't watched since I was about 10, so I couldn't care less.

If baseball fans actually voted that jackass in, then I guess he should go. I
But since I hate him so much, I voted no anyway.

I guess so, but i find the arguments this past week on ESPN and sports radio rediculous. "you just have to have him there, it'll be his last year." i think i heard this for another older player a year or two ago. The guy's been to almost 20 of them. Some people deserve it and never get to one.

Since the fans voted him in, of course he deserves to be there. Saying 'no' is kind of spitting in the face of fans' right to vote for the players they want to see.

If the fans want to see him, he deserves to be in. This isn't Cincy stuffing the ballet box after all.
