ROH San Francisco 10.21.07 At the Cow Palace Attendance: 800-1000
- Chris Hero w/Larry Sweeney def. Human Tornado via Hero's Welcome then Hangman's Clutch submission. **1/2
- FIP World Heavyweight Title: Roderick Strong def. Claudio Castagnoli via double underhook sitdown powerbomb to retain FIP World Heavyweight Title. ***1/2
- Adam Pearce def. Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson via piledriver *3/4
- Brent Albright def. Delirious via interference **
- The No Remorse Corps: Davey Richards & Rocky Romero def. TJ Perkins & Tony Kozina ***1/4
- Run in by Jimmy Jacobs & Necro Butcher and now we have a tag match for the no.1 contenders for the tag titles…
- No.1 Tag Team contenders match: Jimmy Jacobs & Necro Butcher def. The No Remorse Corps: Davey Richards & Rocky Romero via double underhook powerbomb on a chair by Necro **1/4
- 2nd Match in Best-of-Three Series: Bryan Danielson vs. Austin Aries (Aries leads series 1-0) Bryan Danielson def. Austin Aries via small package (great match lame finish) ***3/4 (Series tied at 1-1)
- ROH World Title: Nigel McGuinness def. Jay Briscoe w/ Mark Briscoe via Thames Barrier (wrist lock variation) submission **1/4
- Aftermath run-in cluster-f*ck by Jimmy Jacobs, Necro Butcher who attacked the Briscoes. Danielson and Aries go at it one more time. Davey Richards & Rocky Romero run in and there is top rope madness lucha style (everyone waits on the floor while I do a top rope move.) Aries with the bottom rope suicide dive. Then Davey Richards with shooting star from top rope to outside. And somehow we have Chris Hero alone in the ring doing taunts and Castagnoli clears him out of the ring and then gives a promo thanking the crowd. Crowd chants "please come back!"
- Really good show for what looked to be a weak card.

It could be interesting to see what ROH does here. I read that both shows only anywhere from 100 to 300 people. That's not a whole lot of money being made for the distance they have to travel.

It was more of the whole weekend event's fault on attendance I think. The wrestlers deserved a lot better then what they got attendance-wise but still put on a great show. We had to leave early but we did make it to the end of the Danielson and Aries match. We were right next to the first Jacobs Butcher run in. Butcher was beating the crap out of one of the other guys right where I had been sitting (Me and Grant decided to move out of the way). One of the cameramen got kicked in the teeth during the Danielson match. Camera was off of the action for a split second and right back on. What a trooper. I'm still tired and achy (slept a long time when I get home) so I'm not thinking well. When I think of more I'll post.

I'll say it, after the first two matches, the card was...boring. Now, to be clear, I knew NOTHING about ROH going into this and I think that's why I was bored. With the first two matches you didn't need to know anyhthing. They created a storyline for you during the match. Something fun to latch onto to get you through the bout. The rest of the matches didn't and so I just didn't care. And, as popular as it'll make me, I thought the Danielson vs. Areis match was a total yawn fest. Yeah they turn each other into pretzels...so? Again, they did nothing to make me care about either wrestler and so, I didn't. What was at stake? What was this a 2 out of three series? Let the new fans know and maybe they'll care. Chir Hero vs. Human Tornado was the match of the night, IMO.

Grant, you are dead to me. EDIT: I added in the smiley because Grant isn't really dead to me.

That is the one complaint I have about ROH is that they really don't do a good job at explaining the ongoing storylines to new comers. Oh, another complaint is that Danielson needs a tan.

Oh, another complaint is that Danielson needs a tan. Danielson probably thinks that you need a good stretching, too.

Huh, I'm surprised to hear that... they do a really good job on the DVD letting you know what's come before... I guess the figure the live fans are regulars.

Well that's what I'm talking about. I've never seen the DVDs. So they could have done a better job making the matches mean something. They did for the first two matches and the tag match with Necro Buthcer, but nothing else had any exposition.

Most of the ROH fans live and die by the Internet message board and the DVDs so I can understand how a new fan would be confused by what is going on. They do a decent job showing some of the current happenings on their message wire which is located on their website.

Ring of Honor took what they could get audience wise. Die hard fans (which were chanting loud enough to make it sound like there twenty times more people in attendance), casual fans, new fans, grandma, the family dog, a couple cockroaches, the Sandman, I think they were happy to have anybody there with the way things at the convention were going. Like I said, we had to go before the main event and we were going to check out the vendor / autograph area one more time before we left but they were already closing it up. Because of that I can say Danielson vs. Aries was my last memory of Wrestle Fan Fest. Would have been nice to get a few ROH autographs because they said they'd be doing that at thier booth after the show. I only wonder if they were allowed back into the southern exhibit hall....

Yeah, the DVDs do a better job at that than at a live event...atleast from my limited experiences. Although ROH is marketed to a hardcore fan base and WWE is to a more mainstream audience. Still, I think its a good product...better than TNA.

Have I mentioned that Bryan Danielson is the Best Wrestler in the World lately? No? Well, he is.
