Warning: I am about to be real. What I am about to say has nothing to do with anyone in this thread or whatever. Knapik is cool. Anyways...
That clip is one of the weakest pro wres clips I have ever seen, bordering on back yard - send your tape in and win a shirt contest - low quality - uninspiring pieces of monkey crap I have ever wasted nine minutes on.
Nice hype...oh this is crazy! We don't condone it! Cover your eyes! Then...yawn...no crowd pops...nothing. ROH is supposed to have these awesome wild fans - a fucking mouse could have farted and you would have been able to hear it ...
Nothing segment - nothing crowd reaction - best I can tell, four really crappy wrestlers involved...oooohh you got blood on you! Look out!
I'm sorry but this stuff sucks. Wrestling is a show - a bigger than life show with bigger than life characters and stories...this crap isn't wrestling. This is the emo kid from 8th grade teaming up with his long haired buddy, his 4 on a scale of 10 gf, and his half drunk retarded uncle and getting Mom to do her best to hold the camera steady while the rest of the smark turds he knows who came to watch the show to try to make themselves the stars by chanting crap like "Micheal Jackson!" during this so called oh so important clip in ROH history.
Garbage.
Absolute garbage.
I want my nine minutes back.
This crap makes TNA look good.
Pathetic.

Come on Swarm, I thought Necco Wafer was pretty good. They were alright if you didn't have some Smarties.

Seriously, I don't mind you guys letting your opinion known. If you're cool with just having WWE, you're obviously not going to get into this.
Like it's been said, it's not for everyone. No big deal. But just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's crap... just means (in this instance) it's not your thing.

Calling Necro Butcher a bad wrestler is one of the things that makes me think a person doesn't "get" pro wrestling.
Same as someone calling John Cena a bad wrestler, actually.
I'm not much of a ROH fan but I liked this angle because it was something different for the group, and visually it was pretty cool. The fans did sort of ruin the atmosphere by crapping all over it though.

Outside of the boring chant that was due to very bad audio and honestly when the dvd comes out you will be able to see just how much Jay was bleeding. Plenty of people around me were really worried about that dude. I think thats why they lowered him mid-promo. Also the sound really doesnt put over how much Necro was over at this show. There was a constant Necro chant throughout this entire bit. Once again smartys can ruin a show though. They are so confused half the time they dont even know what they want.

This response is late coming but here it is. I wanted other options to the E badly. A buddy and I alternated PPV's. We were doing all the WWE PPV's and then we decided to give TNA a shot and did their PPV's and one WWE PPV a month. We enjoyed TNA briefly (Elix top of cage hurricanrana time) but then it grew stupid. Now we get one UFC at my house and one WWE at his house per month. We're hooked on UFC. My buddy doesn't have the time to get online as I do so I mentioned a few weeks ago about ROH and how I thought about buying some DVD's and watching that and bailing on the WWE stuff. He was all for it. Then I see this weak a$$ crap with the Necco Wafer and a Briscoe dripping blood all over the place. I say that I want to get interested, I want to see what the big deal is, I want to see Danielson and Nigel but I'm told it's not for me. TNA sucks. But their wrestlers that have been in RoH don't. AJ, Daniels, Joe, Alex Shelley, Roderick Strong. I want something to watch. I would love for TNA to fold and these guys get envolved in a RoH push. Or ROH to fold and Danielson and Nigel to go to TNA for an actual push in addition to the guys mentioned above. I like wrestling. I don't like bad promos with blood dripping on the promo giver. I like wrestling. I don't like fat out of shape Japanese guys who specialize in dropping people on their heads. I like wrestling. A fed with Danielson, Daniels, Nigel, AJ, Shelley, Briscoes, Strong, Skipper, Young, Rood, etc. could rock. However, TNA's booker sucks and ROH's fans say "it's not for everyone" because we don't dig the much talked about BS Jacobs/Necco Wafer blood fest. It was bad. It was used to get press but was still bad. I want wrestling, I want to see what the hoopla is about Danielson. I want to see Nigel because he looks cool. However, I'm told, "It's not for everyone." Good luck with that marketing promo.

Honestly to even get the Jacobs angle there is alot of backstory that needs to be watched. I can see where everyone is coming from. RoH built this huge smarky online angle and lots of non RoH watchers got interested just to see what all the nerds were excited about. Not everyone got it. It was aimed at the super nerds that are on the internet all day and I think it even excluded some of the regular RoH fans because the only hype for it was through internet and word of mouth. I wasnt disappointed by the angle but I have bought the dvds and have been trolling the RoH boards daily. I have been up to date but only started really watching RoH about 7 months ago due to my increased lack of interest in WWE and totally given up on TNA. Do I think this was a good angle to bring in new watchers? NO, I took three of my buddies to that show and non of them knew what was going on during this segment but I explained and they were like"Ok" but for days they could not stop talking about the Ladder match the Briscoes put on. The wrestling is great and the booking is phenomenal. RoH imitates Japanese Puroresu more then is does Sports Entertainment but make no mistake it does imitate Sports Entertainment and this was one instance it did for sure. This is to a much lesser extent a smarked out emo version of the NWO in the indies. Necro and Jacobs are both on the ropes with RoH fans. Necro is a bit too insane with the hardcore antics but I think his character is funny and am interested to see what they do with a "garbage wrestler" in RoH. Jimmy is a emo kid what else do you want? He already has one strike against him but he plays it brilliant. He is a insane worker given the chance. You are not alone in your out right dislike of these guys because people who watch faithfully still hate these two. Thats the whole point they are anti-RoH so its fun. Havoc if you really want to give RoH a chance I live in Chicago. You and your buddy can come over and ill put on some dvds or something. I live in Jefferson Park so why the hell not? No money spent on your end and im not a killer, im a wrestling nerd. They have another show on Dec.1st tickets are always 15 bucks or cheaper come with. Oh and not to let you down too much Nigel McGuinness has one of the gayest entrances ever but he is a hell of a wrestler. In the end though to really get RoH it is a pretty big commitment. As mentioned before it is meant to be watched in chapters with starting points and finishes. You can pick up any of the dvds and probably enjoy it but there storys are meant to fit in a continuity. The dvd and ppv continuities are somewhat separate due to the ppvs being for new fans. Whatever I could talk about this all day and still get nowhere. No one is forcing anyone to watch anything I am just sick of everyone crapping on something they have not watched but praising midget McMahons. If you dont like it fine but if you do notice none of the ROH threads are started with Umm... or Worst Ever we generally like the product in this section.

Havoc, you can still try watching some ROH stuff. The Project 161 situation has only been happening for the last 2 or 3 months and most of it was done through the interent, not the shows. There is still plenty of ROH events which just focus on the matches and normal feuds. Maybe you can have a look at the latest ROH PPV if you don't mind spending around $10 on something you're not sure about.

I thought Jacob's promo was fantastic and the image of Jay Briscoe dripping blood onto his white jacket was gruesome. It's true that to get it you really need to have followed Jacobs for the last year and a half, but really soon all of that will become irrelevant. Age of the Fall vs. ROH will be it's own entity, and you'll be able to enjoy that for what it is. I don't really understand the hate on Necro Butcher, but then again I don't really understand most of the internet wrestling hate I see.
If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not going to make it any less enjoyable for me. When I say 'it's not for everyone', I'm saying there are some people on this board who will never give it a chance and shouldn't waste their time. If poor production values (in relation to the WWE's) turn you off, then go ahead and skip ROH. Ring of Honor is about cool wrestlers in cool angles wrestling cool matches. That's it... and that's just not for everyone. And that's okay.

Here's the thing, Havoc, ROH isn't for everyone, nor do they pretend to be. They're a niche market in what's already a niche market.
They do try to put a little bit of everything on their shows. There's usually a comedy match, there's usually a spotfest, there's usually something hardcore. The bulk of what they do is Japanese-inspired, stiff, head-dropping, workrate-focused wrestling, and that already isn't going to appeal to the bulk of what you would consider the professional wrestling fanbase here in this country.
About the Jimmy Jacobs promo - there is history to that promo that makes it better if you know it. If you know about Necro Butcher's history in ROH, him coming back for vengance is awesome. If you know about Jimmy Jacobs and his history with Lacey, her being his little groupie now is fricking fantastic. Jimmy going all out heel is especially cool if you know about all of the brutal stuff he's had done to him in the ring, especially in his epic feud with BJ Whitmer.
If you know all of that stuff, then the promo is fricking fantastic. It's the gathering of several different angles and another example of ROH's intelligent, well-booked angles. If you don't know it, though, it's a hobo, a skank, and a little guy getting blood drizzled on him while he talks. You've got to get into the product to really appreciate the angles, because they often take months to develop rather than the E's angles that start on a PPV and end on Raw the next night.

ROH would be like Fall Out Boy if ROH got a show on a big network (IE getting your video on MTV) and started playing gigantic stadiums, and every 15 year old girl in the country loved it, and all the original fans hated ROH now for being a sell out.
But yeah, the connection is totally flying over my head too.
