I see ROH as a niche market within the wrestling world. Some wrestlers just don't fit the WWE mold, but work really well in ROH and appeal to the fanbase that likes that kind of wrestling. Just like wrestling games, I don't the market leader WWE Raw vs. Smackdown, but really enjoy a smaller company's game called Champions of the Galaxy.
I personally like the WWE style more, but have been to an ROH show and can honestly say I had alot more fun than I did at many WWE shows I have been to. Alot of it was the excitement of the crowd.
I saw Albright vs. Whitmer in a Tables match on that card and was in complete awe by both guys.
As for the title of this thread...I love it. So evil, but so funny.

Bryan Danielson with one eye could still put on a better match than anyone working for the E right now.
Danielson totally needs to start wearing an eyepatch and grow the crazy hobo beard again. That would be awesome.

I had gotten clearance from the wife as soon as I found out about Misawa, and I was about half a step from buying tickets and making the trip. Then I realized that it was in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, and my irrational fear of big cities kicked in. Going to a show in NYC would only be marginally easier for me than going to a show in a giant bowl full of maggots would be. I will wait for the DVD.

Bill Watts, Bobby Heenan, Jim Ross, Les Thatcher, Harley Race, Bruno Sammartino, Jim Cornette, Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Dusty Rhodes, Abdullah the Butcher..
What do these men have in common?
All respected names in the wrestling business who have showered ROH with praise.

So if one wanted to give ROH a look for the first time....where's the best place to start? The beginning? or is there some "must see" DVDs that would do the trick?

I always recommend the Milestone Series to start with, it's my favorite ROH time period.
I can't remember what "chapter" it is but find it and just start at the beginning or by picking up Supercard of Honor and Better than Our Best.

Why is it you smarks can flame me for not liking ROH but by God if you say something about Cena and I disagree I'm just a WWE fan boy. The absurdity of this generalization completely invalidates the entirety of the rant that follows. If you have an issue with the WWE, take it to the WWE board. No one's said jack about Cena on this thread except you.

I will second Supercard of Honor, because I think that it's the pinnacle of Bryan Danielson's awesomeness.
EDIT: Although if he comes back with an eyepatch and the crazy hobo beard, all bets are off.

The Best in the World is a good place to start in the 2006 ROH/CZW feud because you get this and Kenta/Marufuji vs Danielson/Joe.

This year has had some really great moments too. I have all but a couple shows from 2006/07 and the beginning of 06 is an awesome place to start. You see a transition with talent and they really hit a stride. The Briscoes come back from Japan and are awesome. RoH vs. CZW was easily the hottest thing in wrestling. Homicide's feud with Cornette and his run to Final Battle. Danielson and McGuinness - champion vs. champion. Supercard of Honor (the whole card) and the Dragon Gate 6-man specifically. So many great moments!

Yes I know that, thank you. All I was doing was reporting that Danielson will not be the next NWA Champion and that a guy who was kicked out of OVW might be. That's it. John Cena rules.

Don't forget the sixty minutes of awesome between Danielson/Joe at Fight of the Century.
If it hadn't been for Nigel sacrificing his head at Unified that would be the ROH match of '06.

Any of those from 1/06 down except for Unscripted II, Aquinas.
Out of those, BTOB for $10 is too sweet of a deal to turn down. Stay away from most of the '02-'03 stuff as it's really, really indy for the most part. Mid-04 with the Joe/Punk series is when things got really, really good.
What you should focus on: Better Than Our Best, Unified, Fight of the Century, Anarchy in the UK, 100th Show, Generation Now, War of the Wire II, Death Before Dishonor IV, Weekend of Champions, Fourth Anniversary, Epic Encounter II

$10 shows to get if you've never seen ROH before.
Death Before Dishonor IV - ROH vs. CZW in the Cage of Death. A spine-tingling moment (much bigger if you watch the shows leading up to in sequence) and an awesome moment for ROH.
Unified - Danielson/McGuinness, Aries/String vs. The Briscoes + the always entertaining SUWA from NOAH before he retired this year. Fun card, hot crowd, great matches.
Springing for Supercard of Honor would be a good choice too. PM me if you'd like me to send you some stuff.
