Hall of Fame Project Ideals

This thread is designed for us to share what we would ideally like to see develop from this CotG Hall of Fame project in finished form. All suggestions are welcome.

When I asked Chris Ingersoll to create this Hall of Fame Forum it was with an ideal in mind. For me the most important part of this project will be to eventually provide for younger/newer players some practical resources and level of insight on game characters that many of us as players 'grew up around' in real time...but the new and coming generations of LWPD's, Swarm's, Jim Steel's, Troy's, etc. don't have the privilege of having access to. One look at the various forums on this board will show a huge vacuum of discussion on a great deal of existing CotG content. If players can't find discussion about the characters and past game editions here on this board...it isn't likely to exist anywhere.

With this project we have the potential as a community to create a comprehensive overview of CotG history that can have an enduring value long after it's complete. We can create something special with a forum filled with practical and interesting information on each game year...edition by edition. We can have an art section with visuals of various characters from throughout the years. We can create benefits I can't even conceive of.

For anyone 'lurking', anyone who has deleted their account or who may be disenfranchised for whatever reason...know that you are welcome on this forum and encouraged to contribute productively to this project. Feel free to share your memories and experiences on the game editions you have played out in the past. Know that your contributions will be archived for the life of this board and will help many people you will probably never see or know. This is a collaborative project and does not 'belong' to anyone...but as a member of the community you can make a difference and play a positive role for others with a shared interest.

Wow, that's a tall order.. that's not just which guys we think are the best, but a sort of GWF Files online..

I like the idea of a GWF Files Online edition...but it is a very tall order to maintain.

I would recommend either breaking it down into story arc main threads...and putting threads for each wrestler underneath the main thread. Would be the best way of keeping things separate and organized.

I think this idea has great merit. I am definately in for this project.

But It is a large task to undertake. Sure the Star Warriors, the Thantoses, The Choeses, and the Thunders will all be spoken for but what of others, say like Manslaughter- CE who went went on a 90+ card run undefeated for me? Many of us have had characters like that- not necessarily the best guys, but they just dominate our personal feds.

Or are we approaching this more from a standpoint of whom Fed HQ says should be good?

I think it would have to reflect on your personal fed. I think that is what you would base your votes on. A 90+ card undefeated streak is pretty awesome.

I will gladly help all I can. Sounds like a great idea! As far as a framework the most simple would be going by game years this is the plan correct? am I wrong?
I am looking forward to having this a HOF with pictures and a run down on there accomplishments be it storyline or everyone personal fed contributions.
Sounds like a grand task but one that i think we are all capable by working together of accomplishing.

How about a bootleg hall of fame ? Don't they deserve something ?

No. As a veteran bootlegger myself, I do not think bootlegs deserve a wing in this Hall of Fame. There are too many bootlegs out there that the only ones that stand out are the ones that existed pre-1999 (before the bootleg boom), or the ones who have been marketed the best by the individual bootleg's creator. In which case, we should be rewarding the creator of the bootlegs themselves, and not the actual character.

Now I'm waiting for Brandon to brand me a turncoat...

Another Chewey idea I think has merit - I think each era discussed maybe the induction of things other the wrestlers that had merit on gameplay LIKE either the bootleg classic era pre 99 OR the bootleg booom later or the creator of the bootlegs whichever or none, or the P.O.W. itself in the Classics era, or stables themselves (like the Gladiators as a whole or the FDF itself) or Deimos without the moon itself where would we be at? Maybe this will start another discussion or maybe I am stoned either way I'm cool.

If you are going to do anything with bootlegs you must induct the creator..not the product. And it should be more like a lifetime achievement award than a HOF induction in my opinion. I also think if you are considering this you need to remember that EVERY Promoter is a HOFer in my opinion because they keep the game going. So if you are going to start honoring those who create new cards...you better also be prepared to honor those who play the game as well otherwise you might get hurt feelings and that is not what we need.

On the subject of bootlegs, I could maybe--MAYBE--see a case for the induction of Akuma the Ninja. He was truly the guy who got the ball rolling and a guy who almost everybody used at one point, even by-the-bookers.

But that's it. And even then, it's not like he was ever a worldbeater or a deserving HOFer in a "kayfabe" sense.

Nonetheless, the "History of Bootlegging" that was in the first two editions of the GWF Files is tribute enough.
