A logo of three entwined C's hovering over a wrestling ring appears on the vid monitor. As the virtual camera zooms in toward the ring, the picture morphs into the real thing: a wrestling ring set up in the center of a structure resembling an ancient Earth colosseum. In the center of this ring, a man very familiar to most GWF and CPC fans stands with a microphone. There are no fans in attendance, creating an eerie calm over what is normally a riotous environment.
"Hello there, wrestling fans. My name is Franc Kallo, but you probably know me better as The Collector. Although I no longer regularly work for either the GWF or the CPC, I still remain very much a fan of both promotions and of wrestling in general. Of course, like any fan I have my favorites, but my tastes do not typically align with normal hero/villian perceptions. I've often wondered what it would be like for my favorites to face each other outside of their usual environment, competing just for the sake of competition without any of the politics that seems to plague wrestling these days. Back the way things were back in 2074, when Omega and Morpheus first founed the GWF. Haven't you? Sure, you may be intrigued by the extra-cirricular activities, but at the end of the day, isn't it supposed to be about the wrestling?"
He gestures to the structure surrounding him.
"That's where my Cosmic Colosseum comes in.
You see, here is where I get to pit my favorite wrestlers against each other on neutral ground, with no dichotomy between heroes and villians, and indeed no groups of wrestlers larger than three men and one woman (with one exception, which I will address when the time comes). Currently, I have fifty-two competitors -- including eight tag teams and a dozen women; twenty-three come from the current GWF, twenty-one from the modern CPC, and eight are relative unknowns. Freed from politics, and in some cases, denied their usual partners (I have only invited my favorites, remember), several have realigned themselves with those of a similar mindset -- and a few have changed their attitudes significantly -- but most of the teams will be recognizeable to fans, and the rest should feel more natural with time.
I should add that the results of the Cosmic Colosseum are purely for entertainment and have absolutely no effect on any of the participants' standings in their respective companies. While I will have championship titles like any other federation, they mean nothing outside of the Colosseum."
The collector pauses a moment to let this information fully sink in, then continues.
"You may be asking how it is that I can have these men and women participate here without their partners or employers -- or indeed, some fans -- aware of their departure."
At that, the Collector merely gives a curious smile.
"Good question. Not one I'm going to answer, for I still have my secrets, but a good question nonetheless.
And now, I present to you: The Competitors!"

The vid monitor flares to life again, showing a quartet of silhouettes. As The Collector speaks the name of each member of a team, that person's silhouette lights up as a hologram of that person."I might as well start with the man everyone is currently talking about and his team mates. Yes, fans, THE EUGENICS PROJECT will be a part of the CCC, and Monolith will be the group's singles representative! Of course, Zygon and Thraxx, the Master Race will represent the group in the tag ranks. While Eugenics does not yet have a female member, they will still be managed by The Dark Menace when they appear here in the Colosseum." The holograms of the Eugenics team is replaced by new silhouettes, although one fewer than before."And since this is a roster made of my personal favorites, it only made sense to recruit rivals suitable to the standards of the Eugenics team. I think you know whom I'm talking about -- I know I'm not the only one who likes THE GLADIATORS! Disaster, Paralyze, and newcomer Raze will all be a part of the CCC as well! The retirement of Thrash have left the Gladiators without a member of the fairer sex -- if such a term could be applied to an Aethran -- but every other team in the CCC will have female representation." Again, new silhouettes replace the dominating visages of the Aethrans. The number of shadows has jumped from three to five this time."Now, Eugenics isn't the only team here who have been genetically altered; Dr. Barnabas's SPECIES team is here as well! How will Monolith fare against the monster Rubicon? Which team is truly the cream of the genetic crop: The Master Race or Nero and Hadrian, Darwin's Legacy? And don't forget Desdemona, who will have eleven other women in her division!" Five fresh silhouettes replace Dr. Barnabas's team. Or is it six...?"Now, Puma was not invited due to his current condition; as much as I liked him a couple of years ago, lately he just isn't the same comptitor. But that hasn't stopped THE ANI-MEN from continuing to haunt the steps of Dr. Barnabas wherever he goes... but it's not the same Ani-Men team you might know! This cross-promotional team features Swarm in the singles position, and GWF newcomer Panther Warrior will be teaming up with CPC newcomer Hanuman to form a team they call Ani-Men Assault! Willow will still serve as a surrogate female Andromedan, and you know that wherever Willow goes, Gila and Mollock will be right beside her!" The Ani-Men are replaced by another set of five silhouettes"'We have the Ani-Men's CPC rivals, but what about their GWF rivals,' you ask? Fear not, for THE GREATEST SHOW IN THE GALAXY will be on display here in the CCC! That's right, Vin Strutter's circus act is here in (nearly) full-force, with Tanck covering the singles division, Amazing Tricks (Amazing Mann and Tricks) handling tag team duty, and Rotunda making her impact on the women's division!" Another five silhouettes appear."But the CCC doesn't just have one circus act! Fransisco Jesterelli has also assembled a flamboyant, high-energy group he has dubbed THE SHOW STEALERS to beat Strutter at his own game! Naturally Comedy is part of Jesterelli's squad, but the other three members may be new to many of you. The Amazing Romanis, Ravnos and Niklos will be bringing their gypsy-brother teamwork to the CCC, while young 'Wildfire' Leslie Hernandez looks to set the women's division ablaze! If you haven't seen these three in action, I think you're in for a treat!" For a change of pace, only four silhouettes appear to replace the Show Stealers."Fans of the CPC may wonder where Jesterelli's other charge went, and rest assured that Dante will have a home in the CCC. But Dante has finally grown tired of the clownish director's antics and wanted to strike out on his own, with other talented young men such as himself who have escaped the shadow of others. That's right, Dante has joined DIVIDED WE FALL to replace Payback alongside Bloodline, Encubus, and Mother Superior; I must confess that I'm not usually a fan of the Titans, so Payback did not receive an invitation to join. Call it an old habit, but hey -- my fed, my rules. You won't see any Titans in the CCC." Another group of four silhouettes appears."Well, ok... you'll see one Titan; Scion Nexus will still be teaming with Jack of Diamonds as the Sons of Royalty will round out the tag team division here in the CCC! I am eagerly anticipating encounters between these second-(and-third-)generation superstars, and even my inherent dislike of Titans could not deny me that! It also won't prevent Morgana from joining us; this young woman impressed me as Fata Morgana and she didn't have the Titan taint about her, no matter who trained her. Finally, Zed Marlowe will remain a part of this group, which have renamed themselves LEGACY OF HONOR for no real reason." Another group of four silhouettes emerges... and then an additional four, for a total of eight!"Ah. I see the time has come for the exception to my 'teams of four' rule. As you might have guessed by the sheer numbers on the vid monitor, the OUTLAW FIGHT CLUB will continue their unique brand of family infighting here in the CCC! There has been one slight change to the roster, however. While Shylock, Pendekar, Stigma, Blizzard, Cypher, The Dominator, and Velar the Great will still be banging heads, the second woman on the team will be an outsider to the OFC -- and the CPC and GWF, for that matter -- Tigress! Her style and attitude fit the OFC perfectly, and she has already been welcomed by the group." The screen becomes less cluttered as the more usual number of four shadows appears."With Tigress, I've already introduced you to four of the Independents participating in the CCC, so let's move on to the remaining four, since they're all in one group. Those of you who follow the Nebula Wrestling Association may be familiar with these next men, for SABBAT JUSTICE will compete in the CCC as well! Avanter, Papa Legba, and Vyolynce will stick mostly to singles competition, while an associate of theirs not seen in the NWA, Angel, will headhunt her way through the women's division." Six silhouettes appear on the screen now, but clearly separated into two groups of three."As I wrap up my roster run-down, I come to two smaller groups; each of these consist of two singles competitors and one woman. First we have THE HUNTERS, represented by Kill Prey, Sly Drury, and Shann-ra! I know that looks an awful lot like Central Command over in the GWF, but megalomaniacal power-mongers like Epoch are not welcome here in the CCC, and I don't think the others miss him! The CCC is also a place where kindred spirits may ally with each other, which brings me to THE KNIGHTS OF THE BLADE! This group is comprised of Valor, Excalibur, and Sultana!" Those six images fade away, making way for another group of five."And finally, another odd collection of individuals, if you'll pardon the expression. These five unorthodox competitors will haunt the rest of the CCC like no others. Fear, misdirection, and intimidation are their playthings, but will it be enough to succeed? Apparently She-Devil has grown tired of hanging out with heroes and has returned to her devilish ways -- and to the devils themselves, as Omen brings Nosfera to the CCC as well! But that's not as confounding as the presence of Indigo on this squad! I don't know why the chameleon-man has apparently turned his back on the True Way, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. The final member of the team is Dead Ringer, another mysterious man whose motives remain known only to himself. They didn't give me an official group name, but I've been calling them THE NIGHTMARES!" The final images fade, and the display returns to The Collector in the ring.

"I hope that you're as eager as I am to see how those fifty-two competitors, along with their respective managers, fare here in the CCC! Of course, our first order of business will be to determine our very first champions!
To that end, I have arranged for three tournaments to determine the CCC Champion, the CCC Tag Team Champions, and the CCC Women's Champion! Fans of the ladies and teams will unfortunately have to wait a week before seing their CCC representatives go at it, as our very first COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE will concentrate on whittling our twenty-four singles competitors down to a mere eight in a single night! This will be accomplished via eight THREE-WAY DANCES!
The matchups for these matches are not random, but were chosen by my wife, who does not follow the GWF or CPC (shocking, I know!), but is the reason for my recruiting of the eight Independants. Even without knowing anyhting about the other 21 men, I think you'll agree that she sure set up some amazing first-round matches!"
The vid monitor flares to life again, with the screen divided into eight numbered sections. As the Collector names each man, his profile appears in his numbered match.
"Match number one will get COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE off to a rocking start, with Swarm, Kill Prey, and Cypher! Match number two will feature the only scheduled OFC face-off in the tournament, as Blizzard and Stigma will go at it along with Indigo! Up next, Papa Legba, Nosfera, and Sly Drury will contend for the third slot! Three towers of power are featured in match four: Rubicon, Tanck, and The Dominator! Slot five will go to either Valor, Dante, or Pendekar, while slot six is up for grabs amongst Excalibur, Shylock, and Zed Marlowe! Slot seven should be dubbed the Masquerade Match, as Vyolynce, Comedy, and Dead Ringer face-- er, mask off against each other!"
The Collector pauses, letting those first seven matches sink in.
"Have you been doing your math, CCC viewers? Do you know which three names haven't been mentioned yet? That's right, my lovely wife has determined that only one of Avanter, Disaster, and Monolith will advance! These three dominating forces will not be able to terrorize the actual brackets, meaning that the CCC Championship is truly up for grabs!
Once we have determined the brackets for the CCC Championship, we will have two weeks of two quarterfinal matches, two tag-team quarterfinal matches, and two women's THREE-WAY-DANCE quarterfinals each! All of that will ultimately lead up to the semifinals and finals, to be held at COLOSSEUM CLASH I just a few weeks from now!
I hope you're looking forward to the CCC, and our first COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE will be coming to you soon!"
The camera pulls back and the scene fades once more to the CCC logo, before fading out.

The inaugural COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE did not disappoint the fans in attendance, as the eight three-way dances provided some spectacular bloodbaths, some dominating performances, and a couple surprises as only 22nd century wrestling can offer! This card was all business, without any ringside companions or interference to get in the way of what were already chaotic matchups. Even though the matches were elimination, competitors still frequently broke up pin/submission attempts in an effort to position themselves against more fatigued opponents for the second fall of the match. Sometimes this paid off... sometimes it didn't.
MATCH 1 -- KILL PREY v. CYPHER v. SWARM: This match got bloody fast, as Swarm unleashed several Swarm Attacks (five in total before the fall was over) to weaken both of his opponents (mostly Kill Prey), while Kill Prey used his hunting skills to a similar effect. Despite taking the brunt of the assault, Kill Prey scored the first elimination of the encounter when he nailed Cypher with AMBUSH! (+5) while Swarm was out on the floor [Cypher: 3 tokens; Swarm: 3 tokens (and 3 Ambush counters); Kill Prey: 7 tokens]. Kill Prey and Swarm were then free to go at it unhindered; Kill Prey overcame his fatigue and softened up Swarm some more, only to have Swarm regain the upper hand in a brawl outside the ring. The end came when Swarm charged into a boot from Kill Prey, allowing the Bounty Hunter to surprise the dazed Ani-man with AMBUSH! (+5) for the win and the first slot in the CCC Championship tournament [KP: 7; Swarm: 3]. WINNER: KILL PREY!
MATCH 2 -- BLIZZARD v. STIGMA v. INDIGO: Another hard-hitting match, the OFC guys were more interested in taking on each other initially, and Indigo used his chameleon ability to become innocuous and let them go at it for a while. Eventually, the OFC guys realized what Indigo was up to, however, and quickly declared a truce to eliminate their mutual opponent; it was Blizzard's ICE ATTACK (+2) that finally put Indigo away and let the OFC guys do what they do best [Indigo: 6; Stigma: 6; Blizzard: 8]. Without Indigo in the way, the intensity picked up, and the OFC members exchanged an awesome series of reversals and counter-attacks, seemingly reaching a standstill. Stigma had a surprise in store for Blizzard, however, when the scarred cruiserweight deviated from his usual submission game plan and came off the top rope with a cross-body block for the 1, 2, 3! [Blizzard: 9; Stigma: 6] WINNER: STIGMA!
MATCH 3 -- PAPA LEGBA v. NOSFERA v. SLY DRURY: This match was all Papa Legba, as the Jamacian voodoo man was seemingly too much for Sly and Nosfera to handle; Nosfera also seemed somewhat lost without Omen at ringside, and quickly fell to Legba's BLACK MAGICK [PL: 1; SD: 2; Nosfera: 1]. Drury didn't fare much better, as Legba had BLACK MAGICK for him not long after. WINNER: PAPA LEGBA!
MATCH 4 -- TANCK v. THE DOMINATOR v. RUBICON: Even without Dr. Barnabas at ringside, Rubicon displayed amazing ring presence and strategy in this match, casually standing back while Tanck surprised Dominator with a Strongman Slam and scored an amazingly quick pinfall early in the match [Dominator: 1; Rubicon/Tanck: 0]. Then the engineered ani-man swiftly moved in for the kill, dominating Tanck easily before scoring the victory with NO RETURN despite Tanck's best efforts to keep him at bay [Tanck: 1; Rubicon: 2]. WINNER: RUBICON!
MATCH 5 -- DANTE v. PENDEKAR v. VALOUR: Dante knew he would need to pull out all the stops against the Indonesian martial artist and the outcast from the Second Realm, and was quick to employ cruiserweight attacks outside the ring whenever he could. After a fairly even opening, it was a corckscrew plancha from Dante that kept Valour down long enough for Dante to send Pendekar to HEAVEN for the first fall [Pendekar: 3; Dante 1; Valour: 0]. Unfortunately, Dante wasn't able to outrun a now-angry Valour, who kicked out of HEAVEN shortly before putting down Dante with WARRIOR'S RAGE [Dante: 3; Valour: 1]. WINNER: VALOUR!
MATCH 6 -- ZED MARLOWE v. EXCALIBUR v. SHYLOCK: For some reason, Excalibur and Shylock wasted no time in beating each other senseless, largely ignoring Zed to the point where the former prince just stood on the floor and watched his opponents tear each other apart. Zed kept a close watch on the match, and finally came in when the opportunity presented itself, eventually eliminating Shylock with a swinging neckbreaker [Zed: 3; Shylock: 6; Excalibur: 10], and then turning right around to put down a nearly-dead Excalibur with Heir to the Throne [Zed: 3; Excalibur 11]. WINNER: ZED MARLOWE!
MATCH 7 -- VYOLYNCE v. COMEDY v. DEAD RINGER: The battle of masked men started off as an impromptu handicap match, as the two agile men combined to keep the mcuh larger Dead Ringer off balance, including Comedy marring Dead Ringer's mirrored mask with Floyd's Sick. Vyolynce eventually locked Dead Ringer in his EMBRACE OF DARKNESS, which gave Comedy the opening to break the hold and score a victory over Vyo with a flying elbow drop without Dead Ringer being able to get in the way [Vyolynce: 3; Comedy: 4; Dead Ringer: 6]. With Dead Ringer still reeling, it wasn't long before the former Jester scored his second victory with the Last Laugh. WINNER: COMEDY!
MATCH 8 -- AVANTER v. DISASTER v. MONOLITH: Here it is, CCC fans -- the match everyone was waiting for. Three titanic powerhouses going toe-to-toe-to-toe, and they did not disappoint in the slightest. It seemed as if Disaster and Avanter were coordinating their offensive to get Monolith out of the picture, as the Gladiator leader delivered a trio of Decapitatiors before Avanter hefted up the 400-pound giant for a crushing FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS... but then Disaster turned right around and leveled Avanter before he could score the victory! It seemed that Disaster wanted to be the one to eliminate Monolith, and he surprised Avanter with RAMPAGE while Monolith was still recovering [Disaster 1; Monolith 4; Avanter: 0]. With the Mighty One eliminated, nothing was able to stand between Disaster and Monolith; the two monsters exchanged thunderous blows and it seemed as if neither one was giving an inch until the fight spilled out to the floor. Disaster was in control and went on the offensive, but Monolith was able to turn the tables... by driving Disater through one! From there, THE END OF ALL THINGS was just that, allowing Monolith to survive despite taking an incredible amount of punishment throughout the match [Disaster: 1; Monolith: 7]. WINNER: MONOLITH!
With these initial eliminations completed, we now know which eight men will vie for the CCC Championship! On the next two COLOSSEUM CHALLENGES, we will dermine who will advance to the semi-finals and finals for their respective titles at COLOSSEUM CLASH I! Here are the line-ups for the next two shows:
COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE
* Two unorthodox cruiserweights collide to see who will advance toward the CCC Championship as STIGMA takes on COMEDY!
* The CCC women kick things off with THREE-WAY-DANCE quarterfinal matches! The first of these encounters will feature ROTUNDA, SULTANA, and TIGRESS!
* Not to be outdone by the singles competitors or women, the CCC Tag Teams get their quarterfinals started as well! What will AMAZING TRICKS need to do in order to advance past PARALYZE AND RAGE?
* VALOUR takes on RUBICON in the second quarterfinal singles encounter! Can the warrior slay the unnatural beast?
* Only one woman will advance to COLOSSEUM CLASH! Will it be MORGANA, SHE-DEVIL, or SHANN-RA?
* Finally, DARWIN'S LEGACY meets BLOODLINE AND ENCUBUS in another tag team quarterfinal!
COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE
* Three more women, but only one can advance to the semi-finals! Former tag partners LESLIE HERNANDEZ and ANGEL have to face not only each other, but WILLOW as well!
* THE SONS OF ROYALTY face ANI-MAN ASSAULT in the penultimate tag team quarterfinal!
* Two men who dominated their respective three-way dance qualifiers face off in the quarterfinals, as ZED MARLOWE meets PAPA LEGBA!
* THE AMAZING ROMANIS v. THE MASTER RACE -- The last two remaining tag teams in the CCC collide for a spot at COLOSSEUM CLASH I!
* DESDEMONA, MOTHER SUPERIOR, and VELAR face off for the final women's semifinal position!
* Finally, KILL PREY meets MONOLITH to see which man will move closer to claiming the CCC Championship!
Don't forget, managers will be allowed for the quarterfinal and semi-final matches (although not for the women's three-way-dances)! The finals for each tournament will be held in (what else?) COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCHES!

Coming off last week's intense card, the latest COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE deemed to have lost something, as all six matches ended much faster than anyone expected, with only two of them being able to blame disqualifications. Still, we now know half of our semifinalists, bringing us one step closer to crowing our CCC Champions!
MATCH ONE -- COMEDY v. STIGMA: The lone OFC survivor after last week's elimination grinders, Stigma came to the ring accompanied by Splatter, who (along with Legacy's manager, Killer Queen), was unavailable for the CCC introduction show due to extended negotiations. Comedy, of course, had his director/clone Fransicso Jesterelli at ringside to keep things "fair" -- like allowing Comedy to slime Stigma with Floyd's Sick. Stigma was never able to keep the high-energy jester grounded, or even to keep his hands on him for very long. Comedy put Stigma -- and the OFC's chances at having the CCC Champion in their ranks -- away with his BROUHAHA [Comedy: 0 tokens; Stigma: 3]. The brackets for the CCC Championship tournament put Comedy on a collision course with either MONOLITH or KILL PREY -- can Comedy continue his surprising streak?
MATCH TWO -- TIGRESS v. ROTUNDA v. SULTANA -- Rotunda wasted no time in throwing her considerable weight around, overpowering her two much-smaller opponents early on despite their best offorts to eliminate their common problem. After Rotunda flattened Sultana with a deathjump splash, however, Tigress was able to nail a flying spin kick to the giant's head, and hooked in the MAJARA MALLAKA; Rotunda fought the hold for a bit as Tigress had to compensate for the huge sice discrepancy, but once she finally cinched it in, the Fat Lady had no choice but to sing for herself [Tigress 0; Rotunda: 2; Sultana: 1]. Rotunda's extra time in the hold allowed Sultana to recover, and the two remaining women quickly went at it, exchanging superiority several times before Sultana was able to blast Tigger with PARDON MY SPEAR. Tigress kicked out, and Sultana repayed her by deliering an elbow off the top rope right between the eyes. Tigress was dazed and wobbly after that, allowing Sultana to hit a second PARDON MY SPEAR* for the three-count! [T: 2; S:1].
* Personal side note: cute acronym on this, Tom.
MATCH THREE: AMAZING TRICKS v. THE GLADIATORS: On paper, this was a walk for the Gladiators. In practice, the members of the Greatest Show put on quite a show, escaping the Gladiators' crushing maneuvers with startling regularity. Tricks took the brunt of the assault, including somehow kicking out of THE PARALYZER on one occasion, but the Aethrans just could not keep the clown down for three. Amazing Mann also gave the Gladiators fits by out-maneuvering big Paralyze and escaping Rage's holds on a regular basis. Vin Strutter even kept his involvement to a minimum, to the surprise of all in attendance -- but not nearly as big a surprise as when Paralyze submitted to Mann's Amazing Octopus Hold out of nowhere [P: 1; R: 0; AM: 0, T: 5]! Whatever the heck happened here, the Gladiators are OUT of the CCC Tag Tournament early, and Amazing Tricks move on to face either the Master Race or their circus rivals the Amazing Romanis!
MATCH 4 -- RUBICON v. VALOUR: Valour came to the ring alone, as Sultana was still recovering from her match earlier in the evening; as always, Dr. Barnabas was right beside his greatest creation, although he didn't get involved in this match. Valour went at Rubicon full-force, but the synthetic ani-man was seemingly impervious and took the offensive with his arsenal of high-flying big man attacks that rocked Valour pretty hard but couldn't keep him down. The fight spilled outside the ring on several occasions, where finally Valour became frustrated and resorted to cracking Rubicon's skull with a titanium chair in an attempt to slay the beast. The referee didn't think too highly of the illegal tactic, however, and awarded the win to Rubicon! [No token information recorded, but I don't think it was more than 1 each, if that.] Rubicon's opponent a COLOSSEUM CLASH I will be either Zed Marlowe or Papa Legba -- can either of them defeat this monster?
MATCH FIVE -- SHANN-RA v. SHE-DEVIL v. MORGANA: With the group known as The Nightmares completely shut out of the elimination grinders and fielding no tag-teams, She-Devil was their last hope for CCC Gold (if those guys even care about titles). The fiery redhead came to this match meaning business, and dominated her more-than-capable opponents for much of the encounter. At first, Morgana held back like her team-mate Zed, letting Shann-ra and She-Devil engage each other without much interference for the early portions of the match. When she finally got involved, it sparked some fierce three-way brawls; She-Devil dumped Morgana out of the ring at the end of one such brawl, then caught Shann-ra by suprise by hitting a CANNONBALL CLOTHESLINE when the huntress turned to go after the young Titan -- three seconds later, and we were down to two women [M: 2; SD: 0; SR: 3]. Morgana did everything she could to fight off She-Devil after that, but hanging around with demons must have rubbed off on the devilish vixen, as she was a woman possessed! While fighting outside the ring, She-Devil swung Morgana's head into thering post before quickly returning to the ring; when Morgana slid in under the bottom rope, She-Devil pounced with a Shining Wizard that concussed Morgana into defeat [M: 3; SD 1].
MATCH SIX: DIVIDED WE FALL v. DARWIN'S LEGACY -- Dr. Barnabas had already tasted victory earlier in the night; could Encubus and Bloodline overcome Nero and Hadrian, even with Mother Superior cheering them on in support? Sadly, we will have to wait to find this out for certain, as Barnabas's ape-men quickly got themselves disqualified when Nero refused to stop choking Encubus while they were fighting outside the ring. Divided We Fall will advance and face either the untested team of Ani-Men Ambush or their second-generation counterparts the Sons of Royalty, but they were as confused by the outcome of this match as anyone else in attendance... except one. For his part, Dr. Barnabas didn't seem fazed by this turn of events; did Barnabas instuct his charges to get themselves disqualified, or is he just concentrating on Rubicon? And if the latter, what does this say about the kind of support Desdemona can expect?
Next week -- COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE brings the final six quarterfinal match-ups, bringing us one step closer to crowining our first champions at COLOSSEM CLASH I!

The third week of COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE brought with it the final rounds of quarterfinals for the CCC Championship Tournaments and six wild matches! We now know who will meet each other in the semi-finals at COLOSSEUM CLASH I next week, but let's see how we got there first:
MATCH ONE -- LESLIE HERNANDEZ v. ANGEL v. WILLOW: Willow came in to this match at a gross disadvantage, as Leslie and Angel essentially renewed their former (pre-CCC) partnership to ensure that their much larger and stronger opponent would be the first eliminated form this encounter. Willow fought against the odds for as long as she could, but finally fell to the former Furies following a Blazing Headhunter from the little Latina [Willow: 3; Angel/Leslie: 0]. With the mighty willow tree felled, the Furies turned their attention towards each other. Leslie was somewhat winded, as she was doing most of the work against Willow -- a state that may have been part of Angel's plans all along. Sabbat Justice's femme fatale wasted little time in disposing of her younger opponent, delivering a trio of HEADHUNTERS in succession to keep Leslie down for the three-count [A: 0; L: 2].
MATCH TWO -- THE SONS OF ROYALTY v. ANI-MEN ASSAULT: The newly-minted Andromedan team of Panther Warrior and Hanuman faced a steep challenge in its first CCC encounter, facing veteran tag specialists Jack of Diamonds and Scion Nexus. Neither team had a ringside companion, preferring to let their own skills settle this contest. The action was pretty much dead even for most of the match, with the Ani-men rookies' speed and natural talent being matched by the Sons' experience and time-honed skill at every turn. The Sons finally picked up the win after flattening Hanuman with SYNCHRONICITY, sticking around after the bell to show their appreciation for their worthy opponents [Jack, Scion, and PW 1; Hanuman: 0].
MATCH THREE -- ZED MARLOWE v. PAPA LEGBA: Ever the underdog, Zed clearly came into this match with a well-orchestrated plan and stuck to it like glue. Legba was never able to really get his hands on Zed, who constantly ducked and evaded the big Jamacian, getting in his hits while disorienting the voodoo man. After three applications of Heir to the Throne, Legba was sufficiently out of it for a MARLOWE VICE to finish him off in what many fans considered a surprising -- and dominating -- upset [PL 5; ZM: 0]!
MATCH FOUR -- THE AMAZING ROMANIS v. THE MASTER RACE: With the Dark Menace and Franco Jesterelli both at ringside, this one certainly wasn't going to be nearly as clean as the previous tag encounter this evening! In fact, it was almost a one-sided blowout for the Master Race, as they were able to isolate Ravnos early on and kept him in their corner. After getting crushed by THE POWER OF KROLL and other punishing maneuvers, the master thief got his foot on the ropes at the last minute to keep him and his brother in the match. He was finally able to tag in Niklos, who brought the crowd to its feet with his high-paced, high-flying offense. The tables quickly turned on the Master Race, as the Romanis kept Zygon in their corner, not wanting the Immovable Object on the apron to utilize his cruiserweight-crushing talents. They weren't able to keep Thraxx out of the ring forever, and soon things degenerated into a bloody mess (both literally and figuratively), with both the Dark Menace and Jesterelli distracting the referee at various points in the match. Finally, Niklos had Thraxx covered following a Romani Roll (dragon 'rana), when the Dark Menace waved down Monolith! The titanic monster climbed up on to the apron effortlessly, but Ravnos saw him coming (how could you miss him?!) and warned his younger brother, who quickly sprang off Thraxx, lept to the top turnbuckle, and executed a missle dropkick square into Monolith's face, knocking the titan to the floor! While Ravnos kept Zygon from getting involved, a still-airborne Niklos (effectively using Monolith as a springboard) caught a groggy Thraxx with the HOKANO BARO for the stunning 1-2-3 [Thraxx: 5; Zygon: 2; Ravnos: 5 (+1 Tri-Claw counter); Niklos: 3]!
MATCH FIVE: DESDEMONA v. MOTHER SUPERIOR v. VELAR: If you thought that wild tag team match couldn't be topped, these three women were out to prove you wrong! Neither woman was willing to give an inch in this hard-fought three-way dance, as pin attempts were repeatedly disrupted in order to keep Mother Superior from gaining an advantage as the healthiest competitor in the match, as the mysterious woman from Corvus seemed to have the upper hand against both of her opponents for much of the match. She could not sustain the two-on-one assault for long, however, and once Velar was incapacitated during a brawl outside the ring, there was nothing to stop Desdemona from using BITE MARKS to finally score the first elimination of the match [D: 9; V: 9; MS: 6... yes, those numbers are accurate!]. After such an exhaustive first fall, the second fall went quickly, as Velar was put away after being choked on the ropes, allowing Desdemona to move on in the CCC Women's tournament [D: 9; .V: 9 -- it's not like the match could have gone much longer!].
MATCH SIX: KILL PREY v. MONOLITH: This match was either a disappointment or a testament to Monolith's impressiveness, depending on your point of view (and taking into consideration the wild two matches that preceeded it!). Kill Prey was in control for the majority of the match, but was unable to get Monolith into a compromising position (and indeed was never even able to employ his hunter's skills to soften up the big man for an AMBUSH). Monolith took everyhting Kill Prey could muster, and then basically shrugged him off. His first END OF ALL THINGS mised when Kill PRey miraculously rolled out of the way in the nick of time, but his second did not, and that was all she wrote for the young bounty hunter [KP: 3; M: 1].
So where does that leave COLOSSEUM CLASH I? Well, looking somewhat like this:
* Who is the most amazing tag team in the CCC? We'll find out, as the cross-circus rivals go head-to-head to kick off the inaugural COLOSSEUM CLASH! Vin Strutter's team of AMAZING TRICKS takes on Jesterlli's AMAZING ROMANIS in what will no-doubt be a tag team encounter that will get this show off with a bang! As an added bonus, whichever team wins this match will earn the opportunity to become CCC TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS later in the evening!
* The Romanis' singles team-mate is up next, but it will be no laughing matter when COMEDY runs into the seemingly-unstoppable MONOLITH. Will the masked clown's impressive streak of upsets continue with what would have to be the crown jewel victory in the CCC, or will it be the END OF ALL THINGS for the test-tube jester? And of course, one man also moves one step closer to the CCC CHAMPIONSHIP!
* There are no divas in the CCC, just hard-hitting warrior women! The first of two women's semi-finals pitts SHE-DEVIL against DESDEMONA! Does Dr. Barnabas care about his former wife's performance, or is he still focused on Rubicon? Desdemona might need all the help she can get against the wily She-Devil, but the snake-woman's not without her own secret weapons, either. Will one of these woman be crowned CCC WOMEN'S CHAMPION? We shall see!
* Another tag rivalry graces the semi-finals, as the SONS OF ROYALTY meet DIVIDED WE FALL in a second-(or third, in the case of Bloodline)-generation dream battle! But there are no shadows to step out of in the CCC; these teams get to blaze their own trails here! Either one of these teams has all of the tools to become CCC TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, but which one will ultimately advance to face their amazing opponents?
* The Assassin Queen takes on the Headhunter in the last women's semi-final match, as SULTANA faces ANGEL! One woman will move on to the finals later tonight for a chance at gold -- if she can even walk after this match is finished!
* He may have slipped past Papa Legba this week, but can ZED MARLOWE get past the imposing RUBICON to continue towards the CCC CHAMPIONSHIP? Dr. Barnabas will definitely have something to say about that, but Zed's never been bothered by being an underdog!
* And of course, we will have the FINALS of each tournament to cap off the evening! The TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSIP, WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP, and CCC CHAMPIONSHIP will all be decided at COLOSSEUM CLASH I. Naturally, there's only one way to crown a champion in the CCC... IN A COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCH! When all is said and done, we will have our first champions -- who will they be?
Find out next week, CCC fans!

This is really cool Chris, been following this fed close. Monolith seems to be destroying much of the competition, but eventually someone will take the big man down, but I seriously doubt it will be Comedy.

This is really cool Chris, been following this fed close. Monolith seems to be destroying much of the competition, but eventually someone will take the big man down, but I seriously doubt it will be Comedy. It really depressed me when Kill Prey couldn't even hit one of his Ambush set-ups. I kept rolling Animal Trap and whatnot over and over, and he just got pasted. Monolith even won the coin flip after missing his first EoaT, pretty much sealing Kill Prey's demise. I have serious doubts as to Comedy's chances as well. I think Rubicon v. Monolith would be an interesting finals match, but we'll see if Zed can keep his momentum going. Also: bear in mind that DQs are still possible in the semis, so some stupid results may yet happen. I'm hoping not, but we'll see. On that topic, I just noticed for the first time that Jack of Diamonds has a 3 DQ rating during the Sons' match with the Animen. I think this is something that the clean-cut heroes need to get more often.

This is it, CCC fans! Tonight, we crown our first champions! Four men, four women, and four teams will enter the Colosseum, but only one of each will earn the right to be called a CCC Champion! Those who do will have to successfully wrestle twice tonight, and their second match will be contested under COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCH rules! Here in the CCC, a Colosseum Death Match must finish in the ring, no matter how beat up a wrestler may be outside of it!
(Side note: The Tag Team Championship match will technically use Hardcore Titan Death Match rules, as Coloseum Death Matches do not function in a tag setting.)
MATCH ONE -- AMAZING TRICKS v. AMAZING ROMANIS: This was the first of many quick finishes tonight, as all of the tournament participants wanted to get their semifinals over as soon a possible, conserving their strength for the finals. The Romanis dominated Tricks early, including hitting The Treatment, WITHOUT A NET, and finally finishing the clown with Niklos's HOKANO BARO all without Amazing Mann ever even being tagged in! Vin Strutter was furious, but his guys got bedazzled by the gypsy brothers' seamless teamwork and speed! [Tricks: 3, everyone else: 0]
MATCH TWO -- COMEDY v. MONOLITH: Comedy has had an amazing run in the CCC Championship tournament thus far, but he had the tallest of tasks standing before him tonight. Sadly, the cloned Jester wasn't up to the task, as Monolith refused to stay down and finished off his masked opponent with THE END OF ALL THINGS. Jesterelli tried to convince the referee to overturn the result, but he didn't have any evidence that could sway the official's decision. [Comedy: 2, Monolith: 0]
MATCH THREE -- DESDEMONA v. SHE-DEVIL: To the surprise of many, Dr. Barnabas accompanied Desdemona to ringside, and the synthetic snake-woman dominated her devilish opponent early on. The action spilled outside the ring, and Desdemona lost control, smashing She-Devil into the ring post and getting herself disqualified before this match even got interesting! Barnabas didn't even pretend to stop her, either. Clearly, the "good doctor" had bigger things on his mind this evening.
MATCH FOUR -- SONS OF ROYALTY v. DIVIDED WE FALL: The final tag-team semi-final looked more like a singles competition, as Encubus and Jack of Diamonds both started and finished the match without their partners becoming legally involved! Encubus dominated Jack from the opening bell, employing a SECOND COMING after weakening Jack with his MAFFEI MASTERLOCK; Bloodline kept Scion busy while the referee counted three, moving Divided We Fall into the finals versus the Amazing Romanis! [Jack: 2, all else: 0]
MATCH FIVE -- ANGEL v. SULTANA: The Assassin Queen found herself assassinated, never getting a chance on offense against the deceptive Angel! Angel focused her attack exclusively on Sultana's neck, hitting spinning neckbreakers, elevated dragon sleepers, and eventually the HEADHUNTER for the decisive victory and a date with She-Devil in the finals! [Sultana: 5; Angel: 0]
MATCH SIX -- ZED MARLOWE v. RUBICON: Much like Comedy, Zed Marlowe has been impressing the CCC fans with his string of impressive victories in the Championship tournament. Also like Comedy, he had a brick wall wating in front of him in the form of Rubicon! Zed fared somewhat better than Comedy did, but ultimately was unable to outmaneuver Rubicon, who finished things off with NO RETURN and set up the dream -- or nightmare! -- match-up of Rubicon v. Monolith for the CCC Championship! [Zed: 1; Rubicon: 1]
MATCH SEVEN, CCC TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP -- AMAZING ROMANIS v. DIVIDED WE FALL in a COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCH: This match looked like it would be a mirror to Divided We Fall's semi-final match, with Bloodline seeing all the action early against Niklos, but he eventually tagged out to Encubus while Ravnos stewed on the apron. The action went outside the ring, where Niklos used his maneuverability (and a Stun Rod!) to gain the upper hand, but Encubus was able to roll off a table just before Niklos came crashing through it with a sky twister press, and hooked in a MAFFEI MASTERLOCK while Bloodline kept Ravnos occupied! CCC TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS -- DIVIDED WE FALL! [Encubus: 2; Niklos: 2; Ravnos: 0; Bloodline: 0]
MATCH EIGHT, CCC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP -- SHE-DEVIL v. ANGEL in a COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCH: The classic battle of Angel v. Devil did not go well for the Sabbat Justice headhunter, as she was simply out-savaged by the ruthless She-Devil outside the ring. She-Devil had the edge in both speed and power, allowing her to dominate Angel outside of the ring, quickly reducing her rival to a bloody mess. Angel managed to regain control briefly and returned things to the ring where she had the edge, but She-Devil was not to be denied, eventually hitting her CANNONBALL CLOTHESLINE to keep Angel down for the ten-count! CCC WOMEN'S CHAMPION -- SHE-DEVIL! [Angel: 11; She-Devil: 1]
MATCH NINE, CCC (MEN'S) CHAMPIONSHIP -- MONOLITH v. RUBICON in a COLOSSEUM DEATH MATCH: This is the finals match-up that fans had been anticipating ever since the bracketing was released. Which genetic creation would be the superior product and claim the CCC Championship for himself and his creator: the engineered and Cleansed AniMan, or the synthetic AniMan monster? Like She-Devil in her match, Monolith had the edge in both speed and power, but Rubicon's skills were up to the challenge, and both men were relentless in pummeling each other with whatever they could get their hand on! Given the stakes and the personalities involved, it didn't surprise anyone when Darwin's Legacy arrived on the scene to assist Rubicon -- and it surprised the fans even less when the Master Race showed up to even the odds! The six men were fighting all over the place, and blood was pouring out of both competitor's bodies like sweat! I'm not sure, but I think even Barnabas and the Dark Menace were going at it somewhere in the chaos! Both men were nearly out on their feet when the action finally returned to the ring -- who would be the one who failed to meet the referee's ten-count? In the end, Rubicon's uncanny ability to retain a vertical base kept him off his back and allowed him to drill Monolith with NO RETURN, keeping the titanic behemoth down for the count to the shock of all in attendance! CCC CHAMPION -- RUBICON! [Monolith: 12; Rubicon: 12 -- yes, both men were bloody beyond belief!]
What a wild finish to a tremendous night! The fans' initial disappointment at the brevity of the semi-finals was evaporated by the sheer brutality of the final matches, and Rubicon's edging out of Monolith while the rest of their respective teams bralwed outside the ring will be remembered for a long time! You can bet that Species and the Eugenics Project won't let this battle end with just this one match -- especially not that the CCC's richest prize is now in the mix as well as the scientific pride of their respective managers!
We have no idea what's going to happen at the next COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE, but I think things are just getting heated up now that we know who the top competitors are in each division!

Great show Chris! Monolith destroys Comedy as expected but goes down to Rubicon surprisingly I don't remember which one got to 10 tokens first (losing under standard rules), but it was close all the way, especially once the tag teams showed up!

(Now that the CCC Tournaments have concluded and CCC Champions crowned, COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE has settled in to its standard format. Each edition of COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE will feature six singles matches, one tag team match, and one women's match randomly determined from the available CCC roster. If there's a good "Main Event" available once those selections are made, it may be added as the 9th match of the night.)
MATCH ONE -- CYPHER v. ZED MARLOWE: Zed was clearly angry at losing to Rubicon at COLOSSEUM CLASH I, and took out his frustrations on Cypher. Zed took control early, using his speed to keep Cypher off-balance and then hitting a cruiserweight attack against Cypher outside the ring, followed by an Heir to the Throne that saw Cypher bail once more. This time Zed's dive was sidestepped and Cypher got some offense in, but it wasn't long before Zed regained control and the action spilled outside once more. In the ensuing brawl, Zed layed the OFC member cold by delivering a flying headscissors into the ring steps, drawing a disqualification from the official. [1-1]
MATCH TWO -- STIGMA v. SLY DRURY: Stigma gained control at the outset of this match and never let go, dominating Drury with his brutally efficient OFC submission tactics. Drury was able to break free of SITGMATA once, but not a second time as he got smoked tonight. [0-4]
MATCH THREE -- THE AMAZING ROMANIS v. THE GLADIATORS: A rematch from the CCC Tag Tournament's first round, things were much more even this time, with each team putting pressure on their opponents at various times in the match. The Romanis gave Rage The Treatment and hit some of their crowd-pleasing offense on Paralyze, but the Gladiators wouldn't stay down. Once the Gladiators regained control, they pummeled their smaller opponents with their brutal strength and it basically went back and forth like that for a while thanks to quick tags and great defensive maneuvering. The end came after Ravnos was hit by THE PARALYZER; Niklos made the pin save, but Rage kept the younger gypsy occupied for Paralyze to hit a Brutal Infliction for the three-count as the Gladiators recover some face after their early departure rom the tournament. [RR2, NR2, P1, R1] Jesterelli didn't even argue with the ref, as he immediately went to check on Ravnos's neck, but the elder Romani left under his own power.
MATCH FOUR -- SWARM v. DISASTER: Another one-sided affair, Swarm's early offense was shrugged off by Disaster, who quickly hit a Decapitator to slow his Andromedan opponent. After some more high-impact offense, disaster ended it quickly with RAMPAGE, perhaps sending a message to Rubicon and/or Monolith? [1-0]
MATCH FIVE -- VYOLYNCE v. KILL PREY: Kill Prey kicked things off with some solid moves, keeping the masked man in trouble for the early part of the match. The hunter made a miscalculation when he sent Vyo outside the ring, however, as Vyolynce surprised him with a head-first trip to the ringside table. In control of the match, Vyolynce sent Kill Prey to OBLIVION twice as the hunter became the hunted, ultimately finding himself snared in the EMBRACE OF DARKNESS. Surprisingly, Kill Prey submitted almost immediately (was he still hurt from his encounter with Monolith?); unsurprisingly, Vyolynce didn't care and refused to break the hold despite the referee's repeated instructions to do so. Having no choice, the ref reversed the decision, but Vyolynce still had the hold locked in tight. Shann-Ra ran to the ring to help her brother, which finally prompted Vyolynce to release his victim and disappear into the shadows. After the match, an immobile Kill Prey received medical attention; reports are conflictiong as to the exact nature of his injuries, but he will be kept off the next couple of CCC events for recovery purposes. [0-2, KP 2 cards]
MATCH SIX -- TIGRESS v. ROTUNDA: Prior to the match, Rotunda claimed that the only reason she isn't the CCC Women's Champion is because Tigress and Sultana conspired to eliminate her in the first round. Tigress simply shook her head and proceeded to single-handedly beat the Fat Lady up one side of the ring and down the other, even taking a minute to swipe at Vin Stutter while Rotunda was on her back and winded. Rotunda amazingly withstood a pair of TIGER TRAPS mostly due to the amazing size discrepancy between the women, but was too groggy to evade the Slingshot Leg Drop that eventually did her in. [0-2]
MATCH SEVEN -- DANTE v. NOSFERA: In an interesting contrast of styles and personalities, it was Dante who was able to gain the early advantage, including sending the demon to HEAVEN. His subsequent attempt to return Nosfera to HELL, however, missed, allowing a SPRINGHEEL KICK to earn a near fall for Omen's charge. Shortly thereafter, Nosfera decided to use his DEMON'S BREATH to give Dante a little taste of the inferno, but the referee didn't think the ancient Earth literary reference was amusing and disqualified the fire-breather. [2-1]
MATCH EIGHT, MAIN EVENT -- RUBICON (c) v. SHYLOCK for the CCC CHAMPIONSHIP: Barnabas elected to have his greatest creation defend his belt immediately, despite being given the option not to. Shylock took command at the outset, raining fists on the pseudo-AniMan, but Rubicon was cautious to avoid an early FALLOUT and instead quickly left the ring. Rubicon caught Shylock with a double sledgehammer to the gut when Shylock took to the air to continue his assualt, and then hit the pugilist with not one, but two NO RETURNs. Shylock kicked out both times, but was far from safe, as the assault simply continued. A third NO RETURN signalled the arrival of the Master Race, who distracted the referee while Monolith ambushed Rubicon with an Andromedan Drop from behind! Shylock was too dazed and confused to capitalize and pin Rubicon in a timely manner, getting only a two-count once the referee (and Darwin's Legacy!) cleared the ringside area of the Eugenics team. Rubicon took some more punishment from a tiring Shylock, but once again regained the upper hand, finally ending his display of power with a fourth and final NO RETURN. [1-5]
The animosity between Species and Eugenics continues to boil over... how long until it explodes? In fact, tempers seem to be running high thoughout the CCC, as the referees are having a hard time keeping these volatile forces in check. Will next week's COLOSSEUM CHALLENGE should be more of the same?

wow, definitely a lot of good action here. Never thought Rubicon could beat Monolith. Rubicon has been hot/cold anytime I've used him? funny how that works?!
Good job Chris! Enjoying the read! Rayd

I think Rubicon may have been helped by the (modified) Colosseum Death Match rules and some lucky rolls. I'm curious to see what happens in a different environment when they finally meet up again.
He crushed Shylock, though. Shylock had several chances to hit a nice +5 FALLOUT and simply never connected with it, wheras Rubicon hit NO RETURN four times. The dice are crazy that way.
