So, I finished 2088, completing the second game year in my first fed restart in 15 years. Here's the results and analysis:
Wrestler of the Year: Invincible Krakan
-Krakan shocked the hell out of me this year, finishing up with a 15-10 record. He won the initial title in the Deimos Perennial battle royal for the Universal title. He quickly lost it to Billy Jo Boxer, regained it, only to lose it to Star Warrior. He went into a mini-slump, losing to Mesmer and Wolf, but attacked Billy Jo Boxer after a match to start a short feud whiich Krakan won and used it to propel himself into a rematch against Star Warrior for the Universal title which he won. He traded the title back and forth with Lord Nexus before finally defeating him utterly. He then began another feud with Billy Jo Boxer, finally beating him in a Hydra Lumberjack match with Comrade Terror's help. Boxer demanded another shot, but Terror also demanded that Krakan give HIM a shot. Krakan took them both on in a triangle elimination match and shocked the galaxy by defeating both of them.
Runner up: Star Warrior: While Star Warrior had a better record then Krakan (19-6), his inconsistency and lack of any real feud opponents this year (at least in my fed) causing him to hit the runner-up spot. He finished with two Universal title reigns and one I-P title reign.
Tag Team of the Year: Animal Pack: Sporting an 18-7 record, Animal Pack won the titles from the Royal Court (Killer Queen/Death Knight) before putting together an amazing 12 card title run (approximately 6 months) where most of the matches were fairly one sided, even against multiple time champs, the Gladiators. After briefly losing and regaining the titles from the Flying Titans (Pit Viper/Pulsar), the Animal Pack entered a brutal three month title changing feud with the Norse Gods which culminated with the Animal Pack defeating the Norse Gods in a barbed wire cage match. Finally, the Royal Court reclaimed their tag titles, but the Animal Pack proved too much for them in the rematch
Runner-Up: Greek Gods: Sporting a 16-7-2 record, last year's Tag Team of the Year suffered from being on the wrong side at the wrong time. With fellow Heroes, Animal Pack, dominating the tag titles combined with the Greek Gods failing to qualify for a Hero versus Hero title match when the opportunity presented itself (the honor went to the Bomb Squad and the Flying Titans, leading to the Titans ending Animal Pack's win streak). However, that being said, the Greek Gods dominated the competition and were considered the uncrowned champions.
Feud of the Year: While the Animal Pack vs. Norse Gods feud was hot, Mesmer vs . Spike was hotter. After a match between the two ended in a double-DQ due to them both using foreign objects outside of the ring, the two embarked on a three month long feud, each getting more violent. After Spike won their fourth encounter which was fought in a cage, a frustrated Mesmer locked Spike in the cage, tied him up and pummeled him. When Brute and Massacre broke into the cage, Mesmer disappeared in a puff of smoke. Spike demanded a falls count anywhere rematch which he won after all three Gladiators attacked Mesmer in the back and Spike nailed a Super Destroyer off of a hovercar in the parking lot. The Gladiators attacked a hurt Mesmer, but the Greek Gods eventually came to Mesmer’s aid and fended them off. Mesmer challenged Spike to one more match, a Four Weapons of Destruction match. Mesmer managed to snag a victory in that one, but both men were physically and mentally scarred from the incident. The Commissioner ordered that both men could never face each other again. That held true for a while, but when Mesmer qualified as the #1 contender for the I-P title a few months later, it forced a match against the current champ, Spike. Spike lost the title to Mesmer, but an enraged Spike quickly took the title back and dominated the next rematch.
Analysis: Billy Jo Boxer surprised the heck out of me. Now I understand how he was built. He has a dominating offense, but a couple of good hits can knock him out. Bishop Hell is as good as I remember him. He’s not a tier 1 guy, but he has the capability of beating anybody. He just can’t do it reliably. Reptillo and Splatter… ewww… they stink. Reptillo especially is just an awful wrestler. I never remembered him being this bad!!! Animal Pack is just fantastic in all ways. Adam Blast forming the Bomb Squad with Commander Sam made a fairly good tag team that will have some success in the future. Creeper, like Mutant, isn’t actually too bad of a wrestler, especially when put in the tag division with Vanity. They pulled off some nice upsets. Norse Gods started off slow, but once I got the hang of how they work, they started crushing their opponents. Mesmer ends up being a VERY solid I-P level competitor. At this point, Spike is also I-P level with the ability to threaten for the Universal title at times depending on who is champion.
As for the veterans, a quick lookover showed me that the lack of strong Villain tag teams other then the Gladiators and Norse Gods has allowed the Heroes to dominate the tag division. The Gladiators and Greek Gods were pretty good this year, though with the addition of the Norse Gods and Animal Pack, their wins were not automatic anymore. In the singles division, Thantos started losing a lot more. Not entirely sure if this was because of the heightened competition or just plain ol’ bad luck, but he failed to capture a single title. Massif finally started using his size to his advantage and won a title, but he remained very inconsistent. Star Warrior continued to win as he always has. Krakan was the biggest surprise this year. He went from a solid I-P champ to a dominant Universal champ.
Anyhoo, I can’t wait for 2089! If anybody wants to see my Excel spreadsheets for 2087 and 2088, let me know.
