Last night I wrapped up the 2087 game year and have decided to start fresh every game year... meaning that all belts will be vacant and new champs will be decided during the first card in 2088.
Anyhoo, here's some info and opinions about 2087 (which I hadn't played since I was about 12 years old or so)
Wolf finished up with the Universal title
Thantos finished up with the Interplanetary title
Greek Gods finished up with the Tag titles
Thantos won the Wrestler of the Year based on a 19-6 record as well as multiple Universal and Interplanetary title reigns. In fact, there's only one month in the year that Thantos was not in some way involved in a title match.
Wolf was the runner-up to the Wrestler of the Year based on a 15-10 record. He had four Universal title reigns, including a 7 month reign broken up by two title losses that he quickly regained. He lost the Wrestler of the Year title to Thantos based on a very slow start at the beginning of the year while Thantos started red hot and only cooled down by a few degrees.
Greek Gods won Tag Team of the Year based on a 17-8 record with 5 Tag Title reigns. In fact, only one loss during the year was to a team not named Gladiators.
The Gladiators wre the runners-up to the Tag Team of the Year based on a 15-9-1 record. While they dominated in the beginning of the year, they became horribly inconsistent later on. They would win titles, only to lose it on the next card, regain it on the following card, then lose it again quickly thereafter.
Feud of the Year goes to Wolf vs. Invincible Krakan. Thantos originally hired Krakan to injure opponents during the battle royal and subsequent tournament to crown the first Universal champ. Krakan mostly succeeded in his job, though Commander Sam ended up beating him and almost beat Thantos for the initial Universal title. However, with Commander Sam beaten and Star Warrior tied up with the I-P title and embroiled in a feud with Comrade Terror, he sent Krakan after the next biggest threat, Wolf. Krakan, Mutant, and Death Knight spent the next month attacking Wolf at every opportunity. After Wolf was horribly injured after a win over Death Knight, Thantos granted Wolf a title match to show that Thantos was a fighting champion. Wolf was crushed in the match, but was granted a rematch, causing Thantos much anger. They clashed again with Wolf upsetting the champ and taking the strap. However, during the rematch, Krakan interfered causing Wolf to lose the belt. In their final match, Thantos defeated the re-injured Wolf in a Barbed Wire Cage match. In a neat twist, the comissioner declared that Wolf and Krakan should face off in the next card with the winner facing Thantos for the title. Wolf defeated Krakan, but lost to Thantos after Krakan reinjured Wolf's leg. However, a rematch was granted with everybody banned from ringside. Wolf won the match and the subsequent rematch.
Things stayed quiet for a while until a triangle match for the belt with Wolf defending against Massif and Krakan ended up in chaos after Krakan and the Mutant attacked Wolf with chairs, causing a DQ finish. Wolf faced off against Krakan for the title during the next card with Wolf defeating his foe.
Things quieted down again until Krakan became the #1 contender again. They faced off, but Wolf had become so enraged with Krakan over the course of the year that he lost control and attacked Krakan with several different objects, causing a DQ. They finally faced off in the final match of 2087 in a Torture Chamber match. Krakan had the early advantage, quickly turning Wolf's forehead to a bloody mess, but Wolf took advantage of a mistake by Krakan and used his Savage Face Claw several times while repeatedly smashing Krakan's head into the metal bars around the ring, causing Krakan to bleed out and fall to the mat unconscious.
Alrighty... here's some opinions about 2087:
I didn't remember Krakan having a decent card. He did surprisngly well, though despite a few I-P titles, he was just below Tier 1 level.
Mutant is surprisingly good. Not title worthy, but he put up a good fight for everybody he faced.
Death Knight and Omega are just terrible as are Terak and Vanity... Yawn inducing!
There's no serious competition for the Greek Gods and the Gladiators other then each other. The temporary tag team, Pulsar and Pit Viper, as well as the Space Croppers did win titles briefly, but were easily dispatched in rematches. I'm hoping for better competition when I get to 2088 with the Norse Gods, Animal Pack, and the like.
Thantos is *just* a bit better then Star Warrior. The Masterlock finisher is complete lights out finisher (well... tap out finisher)
Anyway, that's it. Opinions and comments are welcome!
