I don't know what kind of national press it's getting but another college shooting happened today at Northern Illinois University. A gunman burst into Cole Hall and killed 5 people and injured 16 others before pussing out and killing himself. You're a big tough motherfucker to step into a lecture hall with a shotgun and a hand gun. Fucking pussy.
I graduated from NIU in 1994 and had several classes in Cole Hall. It's a bowl auditorium with all the exits at the top. A gunman coming in the top would be able to pick off people left and right. The victims near the door he came in would not be able to run away. They'd have to run around to the other side. I'm also guessing he came in the middle door making it easier for him to just shoot toward both sides.
It's weird watching the footage. I live about 45 minutes away and am in the vicinity about 4-5 times a year but looking at the footage, everything looks the same.
Fucking pussy.

I agree It takes a lot of courage to shoot at people in a bowl shaped room. I haven't looked at the newspaper yet but i'm guessing the shooter killed himself ?

People today are pathetic...This guy was for all intents and purposes a first class student, liked by teachers and staff, Deans' Award, the whole nine yards....No note, no threat...
What a waste...What a pathetic waste...This guy didn't deserve his life to begin with if he was going out llike that...You watch, they'll piece it together and it'll be over something stupid like his girlfriend dumped him or someone said something bad about a paper he wrote...
Humans make me sick...

The one school shooting that turns my stomach to this day was the one a few years ago in Lancaster Pa. This douchebag went into a Amish school , let the boys go and tied up the girls and started shooting then with a machine gun. For those that dont know the Amish dont believe in violence so he basically picked on a group of people that weren't going to resist and had no way to call for help. He had plans of molesting the girls but thank god that didn't happen and and he shot himself. I will never understand the cowardice and motivation behind shooting killing defenseless people whether its in a bowl shaped room or kids tied up in a one room school house. Its beyond disturbing

You don't have to understand it....Arnold Schwarzenegger said it in Terminator 2:
"It is in your nature to destroy yourselves"
Whether a little bit or all at once, Human beings are the most retarded species on the planet because no other species kills it's own for what is essentially no reason...
Looking around a bit, I find out that in the last 10 years, over 200,000 people have been murdered in the US alone...The sad part is, when it comes to murders by country, the US isn't even in the top 10..!!
Human nature is a sad concept in itself...How would you describe having pity for your own race because of the way they naturally are..? I don't even have a word for that...The fact is, the people who mourn those killed and wonder how someone can do that are a minority in my eyes...The majority, if not all of the people on this planet have within them the ability to destroy life, especially other people, on a whim, with little or no justification, or even provocation...All it takes is a momentary self-destructive impulse that can come from just about anywhere, and a sensible person is turned into a genocidal maniac...
anyone want to name me another like-minded species..?

It's not fair to begin with since he had the guns...it shows true cowardice. If you really want to do something, at least let the others have guns as well, or don't freakin do it. Seriously, shits not that bad that you have to go and waste innocent lives like this. It's not like it wasn't random and these people were giving him wedgies and swirlies...c'mon.

I'm still confused about some of the details that have come out about this guy. Sounds like he seemed every bit a normal person, but that he was mentally ill. His parents didn't want to deal with him, so they checked him into some facility after high school, which to me sounds like it only contributed to him feeling like he was a psycho. He was apparently off medication for a couple of weeks, though they haven't disclosed what he was taking, or what kind of mental illness he had been diagnosed with.

I was just going to say something about the mental illness part but Chewey already touched on it. I certainly don't think we should excuse these kinds of actions by saying someone was mentally ill, but I have seen the effects of mental illness on people very close to me and the pathetic responses that the medical "industry" has for these folks. When mental illness treatment gets put on a par with physical illness treatment, as it should be, then I can only hope we'd see less of these kinds of incidents.
Stupid waste of lives.

Shhh Trent...The Scientologists might hear you.... Okay, whole other ball of wax/can of worms.... I really don't think I can add anything else....I know a bit about mental illness what with my mother working in the field and all...Hell, I even had a poor guy off his meds sent to the psych ward after I noticed he was acting a bit wierd while I was at work...He wasn't a threat at the time, and if he was, it was to himself more than anyone else...But it turns out, he was full blown schizophrenic and given time would have been capable of almost anything... Both my mother (whom I called for advice on the matter) and the police gave me kudos on my perception and reaction to something that everyone else brushed off, and could have ended very badly... 'Nother story though...................That, I pretty much just told..... Anyway.....

This has ties to the University of Illinois and Champaign, close to home for me. So there's a lot of coverage of this on the local news, talking to his girlfreind and lots of background info. I have NOT ONCE heard mention of his repeated concussions, head trauma, or use of steroids and HGH! In fact, they say he was a nice guy who wouldn't have hurt anyone before this
The one common denominator between this and the Benoit case, however, is the use of antidepressents. Look at the facts, EVERY time something like this happens it is revealed that the gunmen were on prozac, ritilin (spelling wrong, I'm sure), or some other mood altering drugs. However, the pharmacutical companies have so much power and influence in government that no one will ever look deeper into this problem.
