I'm not a doomsayer nor am I a grim pessimistic person but this just has something to it other than all the mumbo-jumbo. The Mayans, astronomy, science and astrology all seem to agree that something cosmic and global will happen.

Okay, I didn't read every single word of that description, but here's a good way to think of it. If this cosmic event is going to happen with all these alignments throwing something severely out of whack, won't we start seeing cumulative effects building up in the months and days leading up to it, maybe even longer? It's not like all of a sudden when this locks into place, all hell breaks loose. These movements are all gradual. I'll give the guy the sunspots thing. We kind of got screwed up a little bit electronically on this planet the last time that occurred, but only if you're in space with no protective atmosphere around you are things like coronal mass ejections generally serious business to life and limb. I respect the effort that went into it, and obviously the Mayans were onto something, but I'm still not buying it. Take off the tinfoil hat, Kev.

I thought they said the Mayans made a mathematical error that threw off their calculations by about a thousand years.
Also, to the Mayans, the Soth American area could have been 'the world' to them. Just like when different civilizations have reported histories of 'great 'floods' that covered the entire planet, when it only covered the area surrounding the civilization (and with the exception of the previous ice age, there is no evidence that the entire planet was flooded at a single moment.).
Take care,
Jay
