Dell Hell

So, my sister goes to work at the Dell Computers call center this morning and around 10 am the workers are ushered into a meeting and told that they no longer work for Dell and that they needed to leave the premises immediatly. Their personal items would be shipped to them and they'd be given a severance. All this is done on "pajama day" so imagine sitting there finding out that you no longer have a job in your pajamas.

They say that 10% of Dell is shutting down, the call center in Roseburg is the only center being shut down in the US. They say this has nothing to do with lawsuits brought up against Dell about unpaid or halfpaid forced overtime in Roseburg. Pull the other one.

My sister and her husband both worked there (husband is on leave right now) as well as a handful of my friends and at first they were all devastated. Right now they are pretty happy they are out of that mess and they can move on, maybe start a small business together or something.

Just wanted to share this in case you were thinking of buying Dell.

I had bought Dell before, but I'm not real happy with the product. Now I have another reason to switch to someone else for my next purchase.

Outsourcing: great for American business. But pretty crappy for the rest of us.

Just heard that some of the part timers came to work today and found out they didn't have a job when they saw the newspaper in the newspaper boxes in front of Dell saying that Dell had laid everybody off.
