This morning I was flipping through the channels and saw someone doing a magic show and it hit me how dumb is this?. Magic shows are cool and the magicians spend a lot of years perfecting thier skills but doesn't putting it on TV just kill any enjoyment from it. It just seems to me that its something that really has to be seen live and in person to be appreciated. I'd like to get other opinions on this if you have a minute.

I think the big illusions like David Copperfield "walking" through the Great Wall of China are conducive to TV, because sometimes the big things just can't be done in front of a live audience of any size, but yeah, for most tricks, it's kind of important to be there.

If darts can make TV then why not magic. I don't see the big deal.

A magic trick looks more authentic and is more enjoyable if its done right before your eyes. Anything can be made to look a certain way on TV but in person it takes skill and talent to get the same effect.

Yeah, I agree. We're used to seeing special effects on a screen, so even though nothing may be added to a magic trick done on TV, it doesn't have the same impact as when it's done right in front of you. There's nothing but the trickery of the person involved. It's a cheap thrill, but fun every once in a while.

Chriss Angel, just like David Blaine, does a lot of stuff with camera tricks and editing...BUT he has a cool persona, puts on a good show, and is entertaining.
I mean honestly, we KNOW it's all sleight of hand just like we KNOW wrestling is "fake". But we watch it anyway because we appreciate the skill involved in tricking us.
