this is one thing I'm looking at to help me catch up, possible starting over and doing a lot of angle booking leading up to 4 major PPV events each year, along with 4 or 5 Saturday Nights Main Event-style cards. I would actually play out all PPVs. SNMEs and other title matches, but book the winners for everything else. Has anyone ever done anything like this to help catch up?

Um..no. I think that's kind of missing the point of the game actually.

how is COTG Online going to help? I guess it won't until all the GWF sets are released. But if your goal is "catching up quickly," that'll be the way to go.

I feel your pain.
I stopped playing in (real year) 1999, I only made it as far as (game year)2089 when I threw in the towel.
I picked it up again in 2003. I restarted at 2087 and am up to 2103. For me, COTG is not a sprint, its a marathon.
You probably don't need much more than 20 cards a year to give your Fed a rich history. I run 30 cards per year and am very happy with my history, even with a very full roster.
And the angles that I have enjoyed the most in my Fed are the feuds that were really created by the dice.

how is COTG Online going to help? Once all the guys are available, there's a match simulator that lets you click a but, and gives you a result. That way, you could book the cards, but still have some randomness in it.

I got 2089 through 2097 all at once and skipped pretty much from 2088 to 2097 and regret it immensely. I started a version of the GWF over just to hopefully relive some of it.
I started playing in 1995 so I was 9 years behind. In the years from 2100 to 2118 I just played abbreviated years and did my best to have fun with it. Now I'm caught up - at least until Saturday then I'll be a year behind but I might keep it that way just to have some vision into how to wrap things up at end year since I play 100% with the storylines.

You need to ask Payback how he did it. He got though tons of years in no time and now has one of the best feds ever. I would ask him for advice. But don't book the winners. That is stupid.

Yeah, booking your own winners takes the fun out of it. But hell, don't take my advice....I have feds in 2089 and 2120 now and I don't really care about being caught up. I'm just having a good time along the way.

I think the key is having a good time..regardless of era, there's someone playing the same time period. I enjoy reading about characters I'll get to in the future, but realize with me only in 2080, I won't reach those guys for a long time. I agree 20-30 cards a year, can still give you a very rich history though. And pre-2087, I think you can get away with only playing 16-18 per year.

You could always 'retro book' the angles after playing out the matches. Meaning you play normally through a given point of time....then take the results over a prolonged period and 'connect the dots' as if they were airing to your audience and unfolding in 'real time'. Imagine for example a pro wres show like WSX being taped for future airing. Say a month's worth of matches unfold...creative would then 'package' what has happened and make it entertaining while bringing together a logically unfolding build out of what occurs randomly. Instead of recording what has immediately happened after a card....you would be tying together events after a series of cards...'connecting' A to B to C etc. The benefit is that it gives you a chance to capture the creative continuity you seem to be looking for...while keeping with the random essence of the game....which is where most of the fun comes from.

As long as you're having fun don't worry about catching up.
