Hello there
I am writing my first novel, it's called Irish stew. Its mainly about a young pre teen gril who father leaves her and her mother, they move and she goes searching for her twin brother who was also adopted like herself. Finding him, his dad is her mothers college sweetheart. They both get together and make Taryn(the girl) and her brother Jasper a family they all needed.
On the way Taryn gets into a gang and nearly ends in juvie hall for her crimes.. but her mom get her on good side again...

...ok maybe not.
I'm more of a sci-fi/horror reader, so I can't say that your concept really interests me a whole lot, not that there's anything wrong with it. You just need to make it a lot more nerdy for my taste. But the concept is solid, all depends on where you go with it.
Good luck. I've been working on that "first novel" for years now and can't seem to get past page 5.

She's been working on it a while and has finished quite a bit. I've been quite impressed with what she's been doing.

The twists to this sound like good stuff for the population that reads those stories (and that's not meant to be disparaging -- all of us readers like certain kinds of stories over others, none are better or worse genres). Handled well, this could definitely work. I'd just be careful of cliches, which I'm sure you already know.
