as my high school is being used for the evacuees from the chemical explosion in Apex, NC. Many of my fellow teachers and I helped set up cots and stuff. It has been said that an equivalent of chlorine gas has been released due to the explosion. It was kind of sureal, but thankfully those people will most likely be able to return to their homes by Sunday or Monday. Crazy.

It's good of you and your fellow teachers to help out, Turkish. It is through adversity that we come together at our best.

That's crazy ... we live about 45 miles downwind of a VX nerve gas depository here, so I always have this irrational fear of something like that happening. Good on ya for helping out. Was it better than a regular day of school?

Was it better than a regular day of school? Sure since we had about 200 students in our normally 2200+ pupil school! and they went home at 9:30 am. We had a workday the rest of the day.

I have very good friends who live in Apex that I e-mailed and haven't heard back from yet. I'm guessing they're fine, but I'd kind of like to hear a first-hand account.

I haven't heard anything about any casualties (or even injuries), so it looks like everyone got off really lucky. The rain on Friday was probably a big help too.

There were no casualties. A few people were taken to the ER, and only a few were considered "serious"
Most people were allowed back to their homes on Saturday. Everything is "business as usual" today.
The rain took most of the crap out of the air, but put it in the soil and ultimately the water system.
