New Profession?

Hey guys, a little help here ...

I have worked for a marketing company for the past 5 years. A big part of my pay was always on comission, which meant that my pay always varied. I had some absolutely GREAT months and others where I struggled. It was a great job and I really loved what I do. A couple years ago I was promoted to regional manager and it looked like all the hard work was paying off and I wouldn't have to worry about things anymore.

Then, about a year ago the owner of our company got divorced and things started to change. He cut regional pay IN HALF and dropped the bonus incentives entirely. Then he got rid of 4 other regional managers saying he couldn't afford to pay them anymore. Like a dumbass I tried to stay loyal.

Fast forward to last Thursday, I have my car packed and ready to go to GCon. I get my paycheck, go to the bank to cash it, and am turned away because there are insufficient funds to cover it. So I couldn't get to GCon, and even if I somehow could've found a ride out there, I wouldn't have any cash once I was there. It's kind of the last straw.

So, for the first time in years, I find myself searching for a new career. I was hoping to get some suggestions from you guys. I've been looking through the classifieds and nothing sounds good. I have a degree in sports management but those jobs have been very hard to come by. In the meantime I will keep doing what I've been doing, but I think I should definitely find something more stable.

Any suggestions guys? Anyone here have a challenging, rewarding job that they love? Anyone still reading this???

Teaching. High Schools often have marketing programs. You may have to jump through a few (read: several) hoops, but it is a steady job and you get built in vacation time.

If you can deal well with kids that is.

I fall into the unfortunate position of being a blue collar company man (i thank my dad for that one.) and even though i probably wouldnt listen to the advice im about to give, i give it anyway:

Look out for number 1, bro.

if checks are being turned away and you cant enjoy the fruits of your labor, get off that sinking ship.

I know you said that was the final straw but dont let anyone guilt you into staying or make you feel like you owe them in anyway shape or form. If you feel its time to go, then its time to go.

Stay positive and keep your ears open, you will be ok.

dude soon as the cheaks start to bounce you need to do the same thing.i worked many types of jobs in my life and an few career jobs and just quit because things did not go as planed ie working for an contract company hired by the Pentagon.if you dont have anyone living off you pay checks ie wife and children.then take time and YOU chose something that makes YOU happy in what you do.you really cant ask someone about job advice because everyone like differnt jobs.but here are some jobs i had in the past i liked most are very and i do mean very physically demanding.

wal-mart orderfiller at an DC-pay 15 to 20 dollars starting.depends on location.

saw-mill-very high limb risk-pay-15 to 20 dollarts starting.depends on location.

experditer for government contract company-laid back securty clearence-pay exllect !!!!i was getting about 800 dollars a week + or - 100 bucks

U S army-we no the risk-pay e-1 22000 an year more if in warzone about 10000 extra or if you have college 4 years go in as an officer which pays about 44,000 an year.

and the last choice an place i will never work if its in the Lords plan Micky D's pay 6.15 an hour and with hard work you can move from flipping burgers to lead fry guy.

i dont reckamend the last one....not at all.

hey Goodzilla not paying attention to the last one the rest have damn good benifits(sp)some of the best in the country ive worked them the first one you work hard for two days and not so hard the outher two.the sawmill your name will change to IM SO TIRED trust me you'll work 16 hour days some times.the experditing job you'll be home every day the same time lunch'ns with cliants and allot of avertising. look up Raidien inc i think i spelled it worng but it was and great job.lots of buisness trips to Japan,Porta Rico,England and Kawatt.Im not even going to tell you about the Army....but lets say i was glad i went i saw germany,italy,spain,france,bosina,chec.hungrey,russia,kawatt,iran,turkey,amsterdam,england and fort knox kentucky now thats an world to its own.
