I figured this would be as good a place as any for this topic (as i cant find a forum this fits in.)
I know there are some guys on the board that collect action figures. Does anyone customize them to make other figures? If so can you post pics?

This doesnt involve modding.....but eh, what the heck.
When I was about 12 Ron Simmons was the WCW champion and one of my favorite wrestlers. I loved him because he was a big, powerful guy who didn't take any crap.
For Christmas that year my mom got me a bunch of WCW/WWF action figures...basically whatever ones she could find. They didn't have Ron Simmons, but they had Butch Reed.
I HATED Butch Reed. With a passion. So I took a black magic marker and put an "RS" on his pants...and decided that he was Ron Simmons.
My Cousin came over and we were playing wrestling men and he was all "Hey, Butch Reed.....uhhh...why does it say RS on his pants?" And I was all "I hate Butch Reed so he's going to be Ron Simmons from now on!"
I actually used a Sid Vicious action figure as Hulk Hogan for a while...someone, the kid who had EVERY figure ever didnt have a Hulk Hogan for a while.
Come to think of it....I did that a few other times too. I think I used Marty Jannetty as Brian Pillman and Sabu....I was an odd kid.

I made a Molten Man and a AOA Dark Beast. They aren't the best by anymeans though. But what kind of line are you looking to customize? On toymania.com, they have a section on how people customize their figures.

Offspring, the only Butch Reed figure I even remember was the old static posed ones of some NWA/WCW stars in the early 90s. They had Sting, Luger, steiners, Z-Man, Pillman, Horsemen (Flair, Arn, Sid, Windham) and Doom. Was this the line you were referring to? If so, they have a Simmons. I still have them all...just saw them the other day. Or maybe those goofy WWF figures from the 80s where they did the chop/kick action? Or the foamy ones that were about 7 inches tall? I dont' remember the Reed one though.

To the best of my knowlege, the only Ron Simmons figure from around that time was from the line you were reffering to (91, 92?)
I did something similar and made a Sting from a bootleg - @$$ he man knock off to compete in my Remco NWA/ AWA fed i had as a kid... those figures were amazing btw.
I customize figures sometimes, a little sculpting here, throw some paint there...was just wondering if anyone else got down.
I dont have much current but some repaints... ill post em here soon...

I customized my Sid from that WCW set into The Giant around '97 or so.

Trav it was the Butch Reed from that line. I didn't make it clear in my original post, they did have a Ron Simmons figure, but when my mom bought the figures they didn't have him in stock.
Those figures really sucked because you couldn't move them at all. Some of them had the WORST poses for wrestling. Much like the Ric Flair/Ric Rude WWF figures that came out....the ones that had one arm in a perpetual headlock pose, and the other rigidly in front of them. My GOD you couldn't make them do ANYTHING!

I have never done any figure customizing, but it is on my list of "things to do someday when I have more time and money".
I always thought it would be a fun hobby.

offspring, the Butch Reed in that WCW set was WAY harder to find than the Ron Simmons. In fact, I only remember seeing it in the Doom tag team set. Someone had a string of very bad luck for you not finding the Simmons and another round of bad luck for any collector who wanted a single carded Reed.
I have been collecting figures since the original LJN line and have done several customs. I'm getting back into it more now. I am working on a Hasbro bodyguard Virgil right now and I'll post a pic or two when I'm done. Recently I've done a Jakks-style Nikita Koloff, a "Con Man" Rob Conway before jakks released theirs, and a Hasbro Barbarian.

I had a ton of the old big WWF wrestling guys. The old, heavy ones. Well, there wasn't one for The Ultimate Warrior when he was around.
So one day, Swar....Dead Ringer was at my house and painted the UW face paint on a Greg Valentine figure and we tied little pieces of sewing thread on his arms and voila! The Ultimate Valent...I mean Warrior!

Here's the Virgil I was writing about. It's not quite done, I still need to add a second coat to the skin tone, ect. But this is what I have so far.
