I've just started watching some New Japan stuff on You Tube, and while I love the in ring product, the lack of English language play-by-play is driving me crazy. . . Can anyone point me in the direction of some NJPW with English commentary? Or even subtitles?

Not really going to find it, unfortunately. One website out there does their best matches of the year with an alternate english commentary, but those are only for their DVDs and its only a few matches from NJPW with there being a bit of everything. Unfortunately, I can't remember which site it is. There aren't any official releases with subtitles or dubbed commentary for NJPW. NOAH has a dvd for sale in the states that does have english commentary. That's about it, other than those FMW dvds that are out there.

The website with the year in review DVDs with English commentary is www.puroresudvdsource.com Go there and you'll see on the front page about half-way down a listing for the second volume, it's not too hard to find the first. As far as I know this is the only way to get English commentary on puro, other than the FMW DVDs and the lone NOAH DVD out there right now (the NOAH DVD isn't available in stores at this time, though, and only through their English site www.noah-usa.cc/)That's what I got, lol. Hope it helps. I will say you get used to the Japanese commentary after a while. Even with the language barrier you can still kind of feel what they're saying in relation to the match, based on pitch, speed, etc. You'll even find yourself "understanding" certain words and phrases. All this said the quality of certain matches and performers should not be overlooked because of the language. That'd be like never watching Seven Samurai or Das Boot or and Kurosawa or Fellini films... That said, at least you get subs on them, lol. Take care, ~Sam |

I know it bugs you but you'd honestly be doing a big disservice to yourself by not watching it with the Japanese commentary. You don't get the full experience.
