Japanese paper Naigai Times is reporting that Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment are in the final discussions of BUYING New Japan Pro-Wrestling. On the cover of the 3/06 issue, the cover reads, "WWE baishuu Shin Nihon", which obviously means "WWE buying New Japan." There's not really anything else to the story. None of the major Japanese news sites are covering it, aside from a couple of blog entries. Personally, I think this story is 100% BS, and only serves as an eye-grabbing headline to sell newspapers. The only thing that even REMOTELY resembles evidence to this is the fact that New Japan President Simon Kelly Inoki visited the WWE headquarters last month. Nothing was ever public ally released on the meeting, but most assumed that it was about the ongoing Brock Lesnar legal battle. I simply don't believe it. For one, the Japanese news is pretty fishy as it is. For two, there's very little motivation for Vince to buy New Japan. The New Japan footage is owned by TV-Asahi, so it's not for that. Vince is wanting to expand further into Japan, but I just don't see him buying New Japan to do it, unless he's simply buying majority shares of the company, meaning the management and booking remains the same... But then again, I can't see Vince not putting his grubby hands on something he'd own, or even own majority stock in.

Hmmm. Interesting. I wouldn't put it past Vince to buy it. He's bought almost everything else involved with pro wrestling, but you're right that it seems kind of fishy.
Especially since it seems he wouldn't have access to the video library.

No video library I think would mean no interest from Vince.
