For all those Japanese wrestling fans I want to see who likes who and what. So here are your questions to answer. Who are your favorite Japanese wrestlers? Why? What is your favorite Japanese organization? Why? What is your favorite Japanese match? What else do you want to talk about involving Japanese wrestling?

For all those Japanese wrestling fans I want to see who likes who and what. So here are your questions to answer. Who are your favorite Japanese wrestlers? Why? What is your favorite Japanese organization? Why? What is your favorite Japanese match? What else do you want to talk about involving Japanese wrestling? I have some tapes from Tim and Chad, and try to keep up with current Japanese wrestling on the internet... I have always been a fan of the U.S. wrestlers fighting in Japan, especially Vader. Also Hansen, Dr. Death and Gordy, The Steiners, Hogan, and now Brock Lesner... I was a fan of Mitsawa Mitsuhara (I probably didn't spell that right at all) cause I liked his elbow blast finisher. Kenta Kobashi had some good matches and who didn't like Ricki Chosu? I also liked all of the flyers from Liger, Hayabusa, to Benoit, Guerreo, and the Dynamite Kid when they all wore mask. ...I'm more a fan of Japanese wrestling in general, than I am of any one Fed. My favoriter match was Dr. Death vs. Kenta Kobashi where Doc dropped that guy on his head 3 times in a rown and it looked like he killed him. I would just like to be able to be regularly caught up with what's going on over there. I'd like to get some more tapes too. swarm

Fav Japanese wrestlers: Masihiro Chono, Tiger Mask, Jushin Thunder Liger, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shinsuke Nakamura, Jado , Gedo. From the past, I really liked what Big Van Vader and Scott Norton did over there. I'm a fan of 'Benoit' style hard-hitting wrestlers with some skill. I've only seen clips of Nakamura and Tanahashi, but they were very impressive. The others, I've seen at leat a couple of matches (though I'm not sure what incarnation of Tiger Mask I've seen...)
Fav Japanese Organization. New Japan. Hands down...they just seem to be the most stable, and the promotion with the biggest aspirations. They've got some great names, and they've brought in some good imports (Brock, Charlie Haas, Scott Norton etc.) Plus, in the days of the WCW/NJPW stuff, they were just cool.
Fav Japanese Match: Don't really have a fav match...I like regular 1 fall matches. Its just that in Japan, wrestling is treated more as a sport than it is here...and thus the wrestling is different and the angles and stoylines are different and even involve the mainstream Jap. press, which is pretty cool and gives feuds etc. a different feel. It reminds me of the wrestling I used to love in the 80s.
Don't know what else to say. I'm just getting back into it, as I haven't seen a tape since about 2000, but like the fed forums here, I can just follow along on fan sites and follow all the hype and press between shows. I also like how they break up their 'season' into different tours, with different styles taking priority (singles, tag team, deathmatch, whatever) at different stages. I also love the fact that fed's do cross over stuff and all the backstage negotiating that goes on.
To me, its just different, and right now...different is very, very good!

I suppose that I should answer my own questions. I got into Japanese wrestling when members from NWO Japan started appearing on WCW shows. I then bought a couple tapes and started getting into those guys. So some of my favorites just happen to be former NWO members like Chono, Muta/Mutoh, Tenzan, Kojima. I have also gotten into guys like Hashimoto, Liger, Otani, Kanemoto and others that I slowly figured out who they were. And recently I have started to get into All Japan and some other promotions. I can't say that I really have a favorite match either but I loved this one Ultimo Dragon compilation that I got from RF Video quite a few years ago. There is a match where he faces Jericho and it is a really good, fast paced match up. These threads have really made me want to go through my Japan tapes and dvds.

My favorites are Koboshi, Misawa,Kawada,Kojima, and Mutoh. I like all of the americans from the 90s as well. Any match Misawa or Kawada were in when they where younger was awesome. Koboshi is still the man today and considered to the best in Japan bar none. Honostly if he fought Brock today I think he would wipe the floor with him. Mutoh and Kojima as just plain cool.
My favorite organization is Noah because they have tons of great shows.
Right now my favorite match is Misawa vs Koboshi from a 2003 Noah show but I still have a stack of Koboshi matchs to watch and people say Koboshi vs Akiyama is way better so I cant wait until I get to that one.
I found out about Japanese wrestling when WCW brought over Jushin Liger the 1st time and I thought that was awesome. I always thought the Great Muta was cool when he fought against Sting in the late 80's but I never thought there were Japanese promotions full of great wrestlers. Then I seen the WCW Japanese Super Show and I thought weve been getting ripped off for years! I didnt really start buying tapes until recently though because I was sick of WWE.

I have the dvd of Kobashi vs. Akiyama. I liked it but I had not really known much about either of them going into it. It had some really crazy highspots. Surprised noone got hurt.

Its not surprising about the highspots these guys have been using stiff moves for years. Kobashi's half-nelson suplex looks like it could kill some one and its not even his finisher. In the Misawa match Koboshi takes a tiger suplex off the 5 foot high ramp onto the concrete. 5 feet doesnt sound too high but when you see him soar off of the ramp onto the back of his head a good 10 feet you think he is dead.

Fav. Wrestlers: Old school Great Muta, Hayabusa(would have been dominate if not for the injury), Jun Akiyama(Exploders rule!), CIMA, Masato Tanaka(how can you not like a guy who can take more chair shots than Foley), Liger, Chono, Kojima, Jinsei Shinzaki(Hakushi to you WWF/E fans), ah too many to name.
Fav. Organization: FMW(til it folded), now NJPW, simply put, Inoki and his guys put on the best shows
Fav. Match: Exploding Barb Wire Death Match
and i wouldn't mind more "spots" on the history of Japanese wrestling to inform those who aren't the marks some of us are! ;D

I would really appreciate if you did inform us about the history of Japanese wrestling. I know some and have quite a few tapes and dvds but I still feel like I don't know much. I only really know about NJPW and AJPW so any information about Dragons Gate, FMW, WMF, NOAH, Michinoku Pro, Zero-One, and whoever else I am forgetting I would really love reading it. Like I said I have seen events from quite a few of these promotions but I don't really know much about the wrestlers or the promotion itself. Like Cima for example. I have seen him in Ultimo Dragon's promotion but I don't know anything about him. And Tokyo Magnum I only really know from his time in WCW. So inform away, all those in the know.
