That brings back great memories of many hours in front of the tv trying to beat Super Macho Man... only to get annihilated by Tyson after I finally did.

I always (on the NES version) thought the hardest guy to beat was Mr. Sandman. Super Macho Man was tough, but not as tough as Sandman. Tyson wasn't too bad if you knew the strategy. Executing it was another matter, but I usually had an easier time with Iron Mike than Sandman or Super Macho Man.

SMM was way tougher than Tyson imo. w/ Tyson, you just had to juke his uppercuts...but that damn spinning thing macho man did...it almost brings back nightmares.

Before Mike Tyson added his name to the game, Super Macho Man was the final boss.
I hated when, even after I could consistently get to Super Macho Man or Tyson, I'd lose to Soda Popinski.
Never could beat Tyson anyway.

Bald Bull was my nemesis. It took me a while to figure out how to dodge his bull charge or how to counter it.

I'm ashamed to say that Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, specifically Soda Popinski, caused me to break my Nintendo when I was younger.
I had the old scratch off Nintendo cards that had advice on how to beat the fighters (the only reason I figured out King Hippo) and Soda's was just no help at all. So after about 20 losses, the last straw being me knocking him down 4 times and not getting the 3 round decidion and his f ' ing laughter, I stood up and did a deathjump onto my NES. The game survived, but the system never worked again.

But SMM was a pain as well as Mr Sandman. Someone should make bootlegs of these guys. My mom tried playing once and got KO'ed by Glass Jaw Joe.
