Since its in Detroit why not have one of the biggest matches from Wrestlemania in Detroit when Savage w/Miss Elizabeth fought Steamboat
Steamboat already works for the WWE so he would be easy to get
One of the most famous wrestlers from Detroit in The Original Sheik would be perfect. Especially now that Sabu works for the WWE
Also celebrity induction Mr T

Even before I knew that Wrestlemania 23 would be in Detroit, I have thought for a long time that it would be really appropriate if the WWE could induct both Steamboat and Savage into its Hall of Fame this year to mark the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest matches in Wrestlemania history.

I love the Sheik and with being in Detroit it would be a great honor for his family. I wish we could vote for more because to put Savage & Steamboat in at the same time would be quite fitting.

Vince could get the greatest mileage out of inducting Randy Savage. You could easily market his library of footage with just a few strategic promotional appearances. The fans remember him and he'd probably sell very well. There's always the 'rumors' circulating about the bad blood/'he's dead to me' vibe VKM supposedly has voiced about Randy...coupled with RS being difficult and having high appearance/royalty demands...but time tends to eventually heal all wounds in pro wres...especially when there's easy money to be made.
LWPD (Steamboat, Owen and DiBiase would be deserving 'filler inductions' who could accompany a money star like the Macho Man in an induction class...with The Sheik being appropriate for hometown nostalgia (he's historically deserving but yields no real commercial incentive)...Dusty has appeal but not as the 'big name'...his DVD release probably should have coincided with his inevitable moment of glory)

Excellent list of possibilities, but to pick just one I would say Savage, even though my favorite on the list is the Million Dollar Man.

I already voted for Savage. But I was also wondering about some of the great tag teams such as Demolition and ther British Bulldogs.

One of the problems with inducting and then marketing nostalgia products for tag teams is that it doubles royalty expenses and the headaches that go along with it. This is especially true with 'unit teams' where a name covers both individual performers. The Valiants and Blackjacks were more feel good inductions than anything else as there's little footage to work with and market. Eighties era tag teams are a different issue...and last year even the Road Warriors...with the DVD already out and the ceremony being in their hometown...got pulled at the last minute because of money (namely the rights to Hawk's estate).
LWPD (when fans question 'why' there's a lack of emphasis on tag teams in WWE today...always follow the money...changes in the structure of revenue streams has made creating, creatively investing and then promoting 'tag teams' financially unattractive...not just in 'real time'...but also in terms of the residual issues)

couldn't we just induct them all?

I'm going with Savage. Although I think his relationship with Vince was strained upon his departure to WCW, he was definitely one of the all-time greatest wrestlers.
His matches were always great and his match at WM 3 will forever be a classic!
OOOOOOOHHHHH YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Have to go with Savage. He had a large impact in a variety of areas especially the WWF.

My gut says Dusty will be the first name announced to go in to the hall this year.

My gut says Dusty will be the first name announced to go in to the hall this year. Thats a giving unless someone big is announced for the Hall of Fame like Brett Hart was last year Dusty was suppose to be inducted last year but he didn't want to be overshadowed by Brett

Owen, I also want Savage and Steamboat. Heck, all 3 together, why not?

Well Savage and Steamboat and Flair should all go in at the same time as their feuds against each other were awesome. (Heck, put Flair in even if he isn't retired)

Owen, I also want Savage and Steamboat. Heck, all 3 together, why not? Couldn't have said it better myself. I mentioned this in another post a way's back. What if Dusty, Flair, Arn and Tully all got inducted the same year. That would be cool. Again, Flair would have to retire from his full time status. Probably not his year, but in the future that would be cool.
