I was just wondering if anybody knew if there has ever been an official maximum weight for cruiserweights? I looked in the back of the GWF Files 2nd Edition, and it listed the past champions and some of them weighed around 240lbs, but I was just wondering what the weight limit was?
Any ideas?

Which I always thought was super lame. Cruiseerweights in the COTG has always been a sucky idea imo. Why we still have them to this day is beyond me,

i guess i'm not in the cruiserweight era yet, but I can't imagine a situation where I would use them. Lump them in with the big boys I say!

Personally I like the little fast guys just as much as the big powerful guys. However, in the GWF (and the CPC) I don't usually give them a seperate weight class. I did back in 2106 or so when the CPC Cruiserweight belt was introduced, but I disolved that belt when the rosters went down. To many belts for too few wrestlers and some had to go, and unfortunatly the Cruiserweight title was one of the easier ones to give up. Now they just play on the same level as the big boys. Big Time

Big Time i guess i'm not in the cruiserweight era yet, but I can't imagine a situation where I would use them. Lump them in with the big boys I say! I agree with both. The truth is this: Back in the day there was a time where the WCW Cruiserweight Title was being pushed as a big deal...Mysterio, Benoit, Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Jericho and more were in that division and it was hot... this was about the time Tom brought in Enigma, Prodigy and Vyper as GWF Cruiserweights...it was a hot item at the time and Tom was smart to capitalize on it... later on in life the Benoit's, Eddie's, Mysterio's and Jericho's were proved to be worthy as World Champions thank to Vince and the luster of the "crusierweight" was lost forever and always will be. I say scrap it. It makes me ill to see Euritar and The Amazing Mann repping the "cruiserweights" in COTG when both guys are clearly Galaxian Champion material.

I agree....I can't get into the Cruiserweight concept anymore either. It definitely was a smart play off the WCW glory days, but that time came and went. The GWF roster, in its nice post-New Beginning restricted size, is better suited to have a major title and a minor one (or two) that is open to everybody -- I could never, myself, justify such a limited thing like a Cruiserweight Title now.

As I've said previously regarding the Women's title, I think that any title is as prestigious as you make it. In our fed, the cruiserweight title has always been one of the most hotly contested in any division (we use 245lbs to include a few more wrestlers), and many of our wrestler of the year winners have come from title reigns with the cruiser strap. I think it is something we will always have, it has rich history for us, and we have been able to keep it relevant. As always, it's up to you promoter!

I'm in agreement....the guys who qualify due to their weight that are often better(Euritar, AM, and the rest) shoudl be going for better belts. The Cruiserweight belts should be retired.

A separate Juniors Division is a good idea in a company like New Japan. You essentially have a big roster and are running two different types of wrestling show. And each division has it's top belt for both singles and tag.
WCW smartly capitalized on this. They had a big roster, and they had many wrestlers of high quality that American fans weren't ready to watch take on the traditional American Heavyweight.
As Swarm said, many of those great wrestlers are now former World Heavyweight Champions in WWE. Fans are willing to watch guys Benoit and Jericho's size take on guys the size of Rock and Triple H. The WCW Cruiserweight Division was a brilliant move by Bischoff. Making the smaller wrestler a top level star was a brilliant move by McMahon.
I think roster size is key to this. Post-New Beginning GWF has just the right amount of guys. A Cruiserweight Division would be to small to matter. Switchblade was a constant Heavyweight contender for me in 2119, why force him to only compete against smaller wrestlers? Plus this way we can see the small fliers and technicians take on the big powerhouses.

I never liked the cruiserweight belt in COTG.
I had it for a VERY brief time but didn't like it so I soon scrapped it.

I never liked the cruiserweight belt in COTG. I had it for a VERY brief time but didn't like it so I soon scrapped it. Same here. There were never enough good ones, and those that were good were major title calibur anyway. Nowadays, I just picture guys like Gryt and Tristan duking it out for it, while guys like Mann vie for the top title.

Man i love my cruiserweight division for just that reason that the mid-card cruisers now have an added oomf for their feuds. Guys like Amazing Mann, Euritar, Enigma, & Rising Sun all graduated out of it when they hit their stride.
Currently Mann is the top IP guy and once you get the IP or Galactic strap those guys hardly ever come back to the Cruiser title.
It's definitely a stepping stone title, but guys like Panther Warrior, Tricks, & Tristan had an incredible series over the course of 2121 for the strap.
