Men at Work's former front man, Colin Hay, is an amazingly talented artist. Check out some of his solo work. I particularly recommend Beautiful World or City by the Sea. He's the last guy I paid money to see perform live.

Safety Dance, however, is better as the Weird Al version, the Brady Bunch! To be fair, this is true about most songs that Al parodies.

He's the last guy I paid money to see perform live. I had a chance to see him this summer while my family was away and I had nothing to do, and now I'm kicking myself for not going. I've heard that about him from a few people. And yes, the guy's name is Dolby. Thomas Dolby. The Golden Age of Wireless (which "She Blinded Me with Science" is from) is one of my top 5 albums of all time, for sure. Maybe #1 on any given day.

I realize Erasure is regarded as a band for men of certain proclivities. That said, I ain't ashamed to say I like 'em. "Uptown Girl" for me. I'm not a Billy Joel fan in the first place, but that song's particularly noxious to me. A while back (10 years?) I read someplace that Billy Joel refused to ever sing uptown girl again. I dont remember the reason but it might have had something to do with his ex wife being in the video I saw him live about 10 years ago and he performed that song. Actually, he also performed "The Way You Are" Which he said was about his previous ex-wife. (The one before Brinkley, I don't remember her name)

Starship rocked back in the day, but We Built This City was AWFUL. In one survey (Billboard?) it took the honors for WORST ROCK SONG OF ALL TIME.

I think that was the Blender survey, in which case it was just the editors saying what they thought stunk, IIRC.
We Built This City wasn't Stairway to Heaven, but I didn't think it was that bad.

crap...now i have all of these songs stuck in my head!
actually...i took my daughter roller skating at the rink here in the Springs and they played Come on Eileen. I was waiting for the whole rink to get in a train and start doing the Goldmember skating train! Luckily i don't think any of the kids there had ever heard the song before and all of the adults (all 5 of us) were just laughing that the 16 year old DJ had played the song!

Here's another one, although a bit more obscure, perhaps. Let's see who knows the artist:
"Shoot that poison arrow through my HEARRRRR-ARRRRT! Shoot that poison arrow!"
In general I actually kinda liked this band, although this song always got turned off when I heard it.
EDIT: And after I posted this, I heard it on XM Channel 44 this afternoon! Argh!

What about "Word Up" by Cameo or "God gave rock'n roll to us" now that is a song that gets right in your head like a drill. This poll could have listed about 500 songs. The 80's was like 1 hit wonder nirviana.

Living in a Box.
I always loved that one when the credit came up on MTV.

I can see the hate for "We Built This City"--namely for the fact that its lyrics try to paint the song and the group as this anti-corporate corps of rebels when the song itself was the worst kind of schlocky, cheesy pop horsecrap from a once-great band.
Anyway, no child of the '80s cannot be reduced to tears by this powerful, expressive, and universal theme:
"Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody Wang Chung tonight"
Eat your heart out, Dylan.

What I like best about the song is during one of the instrumental bits you can hear somebody faintly sing "can somebody tell me what a Wang Chung is".
