Since today is 7/07/07 (July 7, 2007), I was wondering who you think the greatest player in any sport was to wear #7 professionally. I wouldn't be surprised if Elway or someone else wins this poll, but I'm personally going with Mickey Mantle.

Yeah, I know Elway won 2 Super Bowls and retired on top.
But this is why I personally voted for Mickey Mantle:
- 3 time American League MVP
- 16 time American League All Star
-still holds the record for the most World Series home runs (18), RBIs (40), runs (42),
-Triple Crown in 1956 (although the AL Triple Crown has been won twice since, Mantle in 1956-over half a decade ago- was the last to win the Triple Crown for all of Major League Baseball)
Mantle was awesome!

Pudge Rodriguez.
12 time gold glove winner, been to 2 World Series, and the greatest catcher of all time.

It can be argued that Pudge was the veteran glue on that Marlins team that won a World Series on Beckett's back. He's solid.

If we're counting soccer players then we also need to count little league baseball. Timmy Thompson on my 5th grade team one time hit 2 homeruns over the fence in the same game. He was #7.

mft ? . Do soccer players count ? . So what sport does David Beckham play who is listed ? . Just like George Best and Pele . Other countries have to show you how to play and win the game (soccer) .
A #7 Andy Gregory a rugby league legend ex-Widnes / Wigan \ Warrington and Great Britain . Now that has confused things !

Had to go with Mick, although Elway and Maravich were close behind him.
Sad as it is, the more time passes, people forget how great Maravich was.
Having only seen video and classic games, it is hard to have the appreciation had I seen him live. Even seeing him through those old videos, though, it is apparent that he played the game at a different level than almost anyone of his era.
