All of you guys saying Rocky by a mile must not have seen Cinderella Man. Both are great movies. Cinderella Man is a great movie. I consider it among the top 10 movies of 2005 and anyone who hasn't seen it is missing out. But I still consider Rocky a better movie. I consider Cinderella Man the BEST movie of 2005!!!!!!!! Rocky was great, but Cinderella Man blows it away!!!!!!!!!!

Rocky is such a beautiful movie that I doubt any movie could blow it away, c'mon. It's a true masterpiece of American cinema and is often overlooked as a 'sports movie' or "A" Rocky movie. It is the Rocky movie; and while the others are fun, the original is a cinematic work of art.

As I said, Rocky is a GREAT movie! The reasons I think Cinderella Man "Blows It Away" are: Cinderella Man is based on a real guy, Rocky is fictional. So while both movies are inspiring, Cinderella Man is even more so because it is based on reality. And the depiction of the Great Depression in Cinderella Man was AMAZING. You read in school text books about how terrible that era was, but to actually see it was heartbreaking. The scenes where they had to send the children away and where, even though they are starving, he makes the boy return the sausage he stole were just absolutely heart wrenching!!!! Sly was great as Rocky. But Russel Crowe and Rene Zelweger gave AMAZING performances. Again, I think it is harder to portray a real person than a fictional one. Crowe should have received an Oscar nomination, but in my opinion they were punishing him for the phone throwing incident. Don't get me wrong, Rocky was Brilliant!!!!! But I think that Cinderella Man is better!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should watch Rocky again with an open heart and mind I own Rocky on DVD. I even bought a Rocky action figure to remind me of the hard work he went through to achieve his dream as a motivation to put in just as much work into writing my book. But there is something about Cinderella Man that makes it one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time! BTW, the only time I can watch Rocky is when my wife is not home. She absolutley cannot stand Stalone's portrayal as Rocky. She thinks he made him too dumb and ignorant. I try to tell her that is why you root for the character. But she hates it!

Here is another pretty good boxing movie. It is not a great movie but is a fun boxing movie. It is called Gladiator and has Cuba Gooding Jr. in it. I haven't seen it in a while but I did enjoy it quite a bit when I did watch it. Still Rocky is THE boxing movie of all time.

I consider Cinderella Man the BEST movie of 2005!!!!!!!! Rocky was great, but Cinderella Man blows it away!!!!!!!!!! I think Crash deservedly was the best movie of 2005. But Cinderella Man (an awesome movie but not better than Rocky) along with Sin City were also among my favorite movies of that year.

Since there are so many Rocky fans, here's a Rocky Trivia question...
With exception of Stallone's character Rocky, which two characters were alive in every Rocky movie ( Rocky 1-5 as well as Rocky Balboa)?

although not the best boxing movie I want to put in a good word for The Harder they fall. I wasnt a huge fan of the book but enjoyed the movie. It is also Bogie's last film. The Giant foreigner (think great Khali) that gets set up for a title shot thru hand picked/ fixed fights was loosly based on Primo Carnera who would later do a little bit of pro wrestling.

Although not as much as Rocky or Cinderella Man, I also really liked The Harder They Fall. Former boxing champion Max Baer played the boxer in the movie who ended the giant foreigner's career and I have heard that Baer ironically was also the guy who ended the career of Carnera- who as you said was the very guy who the giant foreigner in the movie was based upon.
