Once again, Detroit with a pivotal pick in the draft.
So who do they take?
Let's say trading is not an option.
If you had to stay at no. 2, who would you pick if you were Matt Millen?

who would you pick if you were Matt Millen? Do want our opinion as Matt Millen or as someone who might actually know what they're doing?

I think they will take Quinn, but I dont think he's gonna make a very good pro player. Average at best.

I was watching Sportscenter earlier today and Mel Kiper was on the Budweiser Hot Seat where he said he thinks that the Lions will pass on drafting Quinn.

Go with Johnson, it's almost mathematically impossible for the Lions to have another first day WR Bust.

Just saw Mel Kilper's latest draft preview and he has Detroit taking Gaines Adams at #2.
I also saw on nfl.com that Detroit is looking to trade up to #1 by sending QB Josh McCown and some picks to OAK.
This is weird because I don't think the Lions will take a QB and if they want Joe Thomas, Clavin Johnson, or Gaines Adams, they don't need to trade up.
I could see them trading down to #4 with TB because they really want Calvin Johnson.

Millen would pick Johnson..why not another receiver?
They have holes in the secondary with the loss of Bly..they need a middle linebackers and a couple defensive ends to develop a pass rush.
The offense can score points, they just need a defense to keep their opponents from scoring more.

They will take Gaines Adams .... if they can trade down to the 5 or 6 slot.
If they stay at #2 I would be shocked if they chose anyone but Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson. Unless the Raiders end up passing on Jemarcus Russell.
I really hope they trade down and stockpile more picks. I have heard they are talking to the Browns and Bucs right now. If they are able to trade down to the #3 or #4 slot, they apparently would like to trade down again to #6-#10. This would allow them to pick up a couple extra second and/or third round pics, and still get a quality player in the first round.
The Lions need help on the defensive line and at linebacker. They are desperately thin in the defensive backfield after trading Dre Bly. And they honestly could use another receiver, as sad as that is. I think they've retooled their offensive line already, but Joe Thomas would definitely be an upgrade.
I don't see them drafing a runningback or a quarterback (becuase for some reason they seem to really like Kitna). Although they might need to draft a quarterback if the talk of them trading Josh McCown to the Raiders ends up to be true.
I guess the point of all this rambling is, who knows what the hell the Lions will do. Three years from now whoever they draft will probably be released anyway.

Found this on an NFL message board. The guy who posted it has connections throughout the NFL (he used to be the head scout for the Kansas City Chiefs). Here is what he has heard about the Lions and the #2 overall pick. So here's the actual lowdown on everything going on (as opposed to the mindless speculation of the talking haircuts).
1) Oakland has started talks with Russell 2) Oakland has contacted Cleveland about trading down to 3 on the assumption Cleveland would want Russell 3) 8 teams talking to Detroit is a slight exagerration, unless they've forgotten to report a contact. There are 7 4) Nobody wants to trade with Detroit until either Oakland signs their guy or Detroit is on the clock for fear someone would leapfrog them (makes sense) 5) The suitors are: Tampa, Atlanta, Washington, Miami, Houston, Carolina and Pittsburgh. 6) Atlanta has a firm offer of their 1st, 2 2nds, and a 1st next year for Detroit's 1 and 4 this year--supposing Calvin is there 7) Tampa has a firm offer of their 1st, 2 2nds and a 5th for Detroit's 1/4--supposing Calvin is there 8) Miami has a firm offer of a 1st, a 2nd (their late 2nd), a 3rd, and a first and 3rd next year--supposing Russell is there. 9) Washington is trying to move players of some sort along with their 1st 10) Pittsburgh is offering a 1st and a 2nd, and a 1st and 2nd next year--supposing Calvin is there 11) Houston...I don't know what they're offering, but they're eyeing Peterson 12) Don't know anything about Carolina. Couldn't scrounge anything up. 13) Detroit appears to have narrowed their guys down to 3--Adams, LeRon Landry, and Leon Hall 14) I have it on good authority that the NFL will NOT be putting an invisible fence around the Detroit War Room phone and attaching a collar to Millen to prevent him from rushing to the phone too quickly to make his pick this year. Sorry guys. Take it with a grain of salt if you want, as I was skeptical about this guy at first too. But he has been right about things before and I do believe he is who he says he is.

Looking back...this scout was either full of it or The Lions did a hell of a job hiding their cards. Great draft by The Lions this year...let's hope in translates to the field. LOVE MY LIONS!

I read somewhere that the Lions were close to the deal with Atlanta, but Millen wanted an extra 3rd round pick from them this year, and they balked at the idea.
So we could have gotten their 1st, both seconds, and their 1st next year, but Millen didn't pull the trigger.
And I agree with Swarm that it was a good move by Millen. I was very, very happy with Detroit's draft this year (from the best player on the board Calvin Johnson to getting a corner who was a three year starter in the SEC with the last pick of the draft .... great job Lions!! 11-5 this year. Bank on it.)

Poor delisional Lions fans. Always getting their hopes up...they are so cute like that. This is our New Beginnings. The days of the Lions being the joke of the league are behind us. Mark my words.
