Hey, I read in a national newspaper yesterday that Marvel are set to kill Captain America off, with Tom's connections with the great Stan Lee maybe he could be saved and given a new lease of life in the GWF! Any thoughts anybody?

That would be very cool. Too bad Stan Lee has no control over Captain America.

That would suck imo. Tom has way too many sweet ideas to put Captain America (not even a good super hero) in Champions.
Much like Dreadnaught, let him go.

Agreed. He's a cool character, but Tom has been MORE than capable of creating super-cool characters in his own mind.
I couldn't stand having Greg Valentine in my GWF back in the day, taking up a spot that a cool, unique creation could have taken up.

I agree, Tom has and can create more interesting characters than Captain America, I certainly wouldn't feel good about an influx of Marvel characters coming in but a one off would be cool, especially one who is long established. I never reached the edition where Greg Valentine entered the GWF but the idea as a one off sounds cool. I couldn't do it myself by mixing LOW with GWF but if the Filsinger team are adjusting stats and having storylines so that past real legends were entering the GWF (the odd one not an influx) then it would be ok in my mind because then it would be consistent with whatever vision or project Tom wanted for the game. Back on the subject of Captain America, having said all this we all know that it would probably never happen.

Captain America is an icon that's been around since 1941 and is unquestionably one of the top ten most recognizable superheros of all-time. Okay, maybe it's just your opinion, but I'll just state for the record that I "highly disagree". Now, this is fantasy booking at it's finest with (less than) zero chance of happening, but I'll play along. Let me get this straight, you'd rather see a new Ani-man or something, more than a world-known icon who would bring amazing storyline potential and more mainstream exposure than a small-time game publisher could ever hope to have. This is like a TNA fan saying they wouldn't want TNA to sign John Cena if he left the WWe tommorrow because "he's not a very good wrestler" and they would rather see the spot given to a new guy TNA could build-up over time. Besides, what writer and bona-fide Marvel zombie in their right mind wouldn't want a chance to write one of comicdoms iconic characters? And would having an established character take one bit away from one of Tom's "sweet ideas"? I don't see how it could do anything but enhance them. That's the thing about ideas, coming up with one doesn't mean you have to forget another. There's an unlimited supply, and a smart man and good writer knows how to juggle them all at once and spin them into something amazing. You've been seeing proof of it for over 20 years now.

I kind of always though Captain America was gay, besides we'll have Pride soon as he is way better than some comic book hero. I don't know...just seems lame to have him be a wrestler is all. He's basically like Star Man without the great agility anyways. and yes...I'd "rather see a new Ani-man or something..." than a COTG game card for Captain Spandex. I'm a big fan of Andromedans. Who isn't? C'mon.

Star Man, the guy from Nintendo pro wrestling? I don't see the connection.....
Maybe Mr. America without the godlike powers, but not Star Man.

Any thoughts anybody? I think the whole Captain America is dead thing is pointless. All of these Marvel and DC comics have so many parallel universes that it doesn't really matter to me if someone gets killed off. They're still alive in some other form. But that's just me, I'm more of a manga guy than a comic super hero guy.

Star Man had a big star over his face, and the bodysuit was pink. And you're calling Cap "gay"? And captain America works a more old-school Jack Brisco style, Star Man was more like a luchadore.

Now if he could get Spiderman that would be really cool!!! He already has some wresling experience and holds a victory over the Macho Man ;D I know that's it's even more of an impossibility but he would have to have great agility and very reasonable strength - A real contender for the GWF championship! ! ! He was my favourite superhero as kid because along with the physical powers he had the smarts and a certain kind of vunrability to him which added drama when pitted against his foes.

You've clearly never read any Captain America (or Avengers for that matter) comics if you think Cap is 'soft', EVERYONE in the Marvel Universe respects the guy, even his enemies.
On the topic, I sorta agree that it would kinda lame to add a Marvel character to CoTG, but I think the massive publicity it would bring would be unbelievable good for the game. They'd probably be national coverage of it. I'd bet you'd AT LEAST triple the number of games sold EVER in a very short time.
Of course, it would never in a million years happen (Marvel protects its trademarks even more aggressively than WWE)

I have read his comics. He just doesn't do it for me I don't know what to tell you. He never did. Now see that statement I can understand. His whole appeal, to me, is the unwaivering stance on ideals from a simplier time. I like the fact that he doesn't bow to fit into mordern society- he tries to rework society into his image, one crook at a time. In addition to this, his reactions, and ability have him at above Olympic caliber. His muscles are extremely slow to build lactic acid, so he can fight days before stopping. He can run a mile in a minute. He can punch through a brick wall without breaking skin. There are some cool Cap moments, but none sums up the character of Captain America more than in the Infinity Gauntlet: After witnessing many other, stronger heroes fall to the whim of Thanos, Cap, alone among his dead friends, strode up to Thanos and told him to stuff himself. Walking into certain death with a smile. I was sold when I read that. So, Swarm, I can hope you see why I took a slight umbrage with your "dozens will be upset" comment in the other thread. But we're cool.

I have read his comics. He just doesn't do it for me I don't know what to tell you. He never did. You're definately allowed to not like him.. I don't like him that much either, but calling him 'soft'? I don't know about that. Luckily, I didn't create him, so I'm not offended
