Hey guys,
I'm glad I found this message board, I've been reading a lot of the posts and it's done wonders to catch me up. I played CotG up until the Revolutions era (not sure of the exact edition I stopped with) and somehow lost everything I had up until then. For some reason I've had an itch to get back into the game. I've read the Wikipedia stuff, etc. but I still don't get the whole aCe stuff. Apparantly the GWF split off, does that mean that guys like Wolf, Star Warrior, etc. aren't around anymore, did they leave the GWF? Is it possible to follow just the GWF, or is it better to follow all of them (CPC, aCe, Legends, etc?) Thanks in advance.
Steve

All the feds can be run seperately without running the others, so it's just what you want to run.
Don't know what you know but Star Warrior was banished a few years back. Thantos is a manager. Both of thier sons are top stars. Massif is the current Comisioner. I'm only half way through 2119 and the current year is 2121, so I'm not sure what else has changed. But most of the factions from the original game are still around in some form, with different faces.

GWF - the fed - did not split off...it is still going strong.
COTG - the game - has different federations - Legends, aCe, CPC, and GWF. Each one is run separately.
Specific wrestlers - such as Wolf and Star Warrior - aren't 'around' anymore simply because people age and move on in these games. Wolf (who has an extended lifespan) simply moved on to different adventures in 2117 and Star Warrior retired, became a manager, and now runs the GWFZ (basically the GWF training ground).
Like Talison said, the current year is 2121 - the Gladiator team is still around (just with different Gladiators), and other top stars are Monolith and Endgame. Thantos is also retired but Bloodline and Encubus (Star Warrior's son and Thantos' son) are also big stars.

Ok, that helps, I guess my next question would be then, when I purchase CotG 2121, what am I getting? the GWF fed or all of them?

Actually you may as well start with "New Beginnings 2119". It is as the name suggests which is a new beginning. It's a nice starting point for someone getting back into the game as I had to do a couple years ago.
Welcome Steve.

If you want to get right into the game, start off with New Beginnings 2119. It's a great starting point set with an entire federation of new stars and old. I'd also get the updated ring charts (Into The Ropes, Into The Turnbuckle/Cruiserweight Out Of The Ring, and Deathjump/Out Of The Ring) and Ringside Companions 2102, 2107, and definitely 2112. You can also add GWF 2120 and 2121 to that, and you will have an amazing federation of action!

I see what you guys are saying about New Beginnnings and all, but I think I really want to see what happened to my favorites from the past. (kind of the whole reason I started to see if CotG was even still around). I just got to see what happened with Spike, Wolf and the others. I think I'll just buy back what I had and a couple of sets and then just add on from there every month or so. Thanks to everyone for all their help and advice, you guys have given me a pretty good picture of what to expect and where to (re)start my journey from here.

Not that that isn't a viable option, but you could also buy the GWF Files Vol 2 and have the complete history of EVERYONE from the beginning of the game's histrory to 2116 (I believe) and use that as a background for running New Beginning. It's what I'm currently doing and it is working well for me. Just giving you options.

I don't know your situation but it might be worth considering waiting for COTG Online because if you are running short of time or find it difficult to keep stats, organizing etc. then I believe COTG Online promises to help with those things and that could be the difference between running a few cards and fading away or sustaining an action packed fed. If your old school, by all means buy the cards, however I think it has been mentioned that from the next game edition it might only be available on COTG Online but with the option of printing off the characters so you can still play the old way.

Only aCe and CPC are becoming Online Exclsives (for now). Tom even stated in the new release article that 2122 would be released for both hopefully at the same time.

The GWF (and LOW) are profitable enough to remain as cards for the traditionalists. As the CPC and aCe aren't as popular, they'll be online from now on.

I am doing the same thing as far as buting a set every other month and adding them every other week. I started with 2087 and now I am on 2090.
