I say US Patriot/Traitor because Sam wasn't really a heel turn because he was influenced by Mesmer. Sam was the most shocking plot twist though.

I'm going with OTHER on this one. I think all of those turns where shocking at the time. And yes, it could be argued that Sam's was not a real "turn," but think about it, he never really was the same man after that. But what about Natural Man into Vanity? Pit Viper into....Pit Viper only a bad guy? However, storyline-wise the most shocking turn of all time has to be Cosmos to Thantos in late 2086. I mean without that turn we wouldn't have a GWF as we know it today, and no one at that time saw it coming! In my mind the turn I was most shocked by was Wolf rejoining the Gladiators duing the Civil War. I remember thinking that Wolf would have never gone back to Aethra, especially with the bloody feuds he had with Spike and Mayhem. But then there he was, face paint and all, ready to throw down beside the guys that hated him more than anyone else in wrestling. I just couldn't believe that. Might not count as a heel turn to some people, but despite their popularity, the Gladiators where not (and still are not, despite current writings) Faces. So there you go. Big Time

I'm voting Mesmer. I remember being shocked at the Mesmer turn, because at the time, that was Mark's favorite character, and I couldn't believe Tom would do that to Mark!
Although I'd almost go with Pit Viper. It was the original heel turn that affected game play. Plus we never saw it coming at the time.

For me it was Pit Vyper. I remember Rob Nadon and myself sharing the game and when I went to his place he haneded me the book for the newest set and said you gotta read this. It was a shock. This was the first turn in the game. The whole Cosmos/Thantos thing happened first but 20 years ago Tom had not written any of those cards or storyline. So for me that was and is the big one for me.

It depends what angle you look at it from. Cosmos turned prior to the first edition. We only really knew him as a heel.

I'm gonna go with U.S. Patriot-Traitor.
Don't think you can count Cosmos - Thantos as we already knew that happened in the 1st edition.

Mesmer for me simply because it came out of nowhere but he turned out to be so much more interesting as a heel.
