I used to be into GWF when I was in high school 20 years ago. I played for awhile, went to college, etc. A year or so back I noticed the ad in PWI for LOW and bought it and continued buying it. I have all the sets but have kind of gotten to the point where it has gone stale for me (The Iron Sheik beat a booleg of myself for the NWA title and this had me disillusioned).
So I put LOW away and I am thinking of trying to go back to CoTG. It is now insane the amount of stuff there is out there. Where should I start?

My total aCe honkery requires me that I answer with the aCe. In all seriousness, though, I like it for a new person starting out, because you've only got two years of history to make up. With GWF and CPC you can just pick a year to start in (and this is especially easy with GWF and New Beginning), but there's all this unseen fed "history" that you just kind of have to gloss over. That might not matter to most, but I'm kind of a dork about that kind of stuff.

I hear the aCe stuff is extremely well written and is top notch as far as character development goes. The only potential barrier is the fact that most of the stuff going on in the sets is over the top sci fi. if you can get over that then aCe would probably be your best bet.
I myself have been thinking about storming the aCe and seeing what it's all about. But the fact it's going to be an online exclusive has sorta bumed me out.

I'm actually not going to vote in this one because I'd say you've got pretty compelling arguments to do both a New Beginnings GWF and an aCe fed, although I might lean slightly GWF. If you plan on doing COTGonline, I'd start with GWF in the "print world" and then when the online version of aCe is ready, you can jump in that way there, as they won't be officially released in print form (although you'll be able to print them from a pdf file yourself, they say). CPC will probably feasible to do the same way in the fall when we do the 2122 set. I can personally vouch for the excellence of the writing and storylines in that series.

Depending on what sets you have, you have a few options:
1) GWF Early Classics: Starting in 2074 is really great fun, and gives you the total GWF experience. Its got a real "old school" feel as far as the move sets and such go, so if you like classics, they'll feel sorta warm and fuzzy. The down side is its not the current stuff.. and its nearly 50 game years behind the current stuff, so if you want to be current some time, this is not the way to go... OTOH, there are alot of EC feds out there, so there's plenty of discussion to be had. Of course, if you don't own this stuff, its a bit of an investment (you need the EC set and the 4 classics (2074, 2079, 2084, 2086)
2) GWF "golden Age" : starting at 2087 you get the classic characters that started it all... definately the most iconic and easy to recognize guys, and the fed is nicely laid out. The down side here is you've probably played it before, so it wouldn't be new, and while 2087 is great, there are a few rough spots early in the story (All -Earth Squad... ugh) that can really bog thngs down, and the rapid roster expansion is a little tough to book.
3) GWF New Beginning: This is probably the best place to start if you want to fully engage with the board here, posting your results and whatnot..... just about everyone either is playing, or bought and tried it. The main problem here is lack of history.
4) aCe - Awesome story, awesome characters, but definately the most 'unrealistic' of the feds.. you got cyborgs, zombies, supernatural beings, and magic title belts. I would go so far as to say aCe has THE BEST writing right now, though, and the art is Daryl Banks, which it totally top notch. The down side here is its a bit off the beaten path. I would recommend this if you have the sets... if not, I'd wait for CoTGonline here.

eh w COTG on-line you could do this...
Start with New beginnings GWF...play for x amount of months...then play ace ONLINE...once CPC goes online you could probably manage all three if you wanted too.
