Am I reading correctly? aCe 2121 will only be available online only? Sorry, but I disapprove. I'm and old-schooler, playing the same way since 1987. Give me cards and a booklet. Someone please agree with me. Maybe for us "old-timers" , there will be mercy for us and 2121 will be made printed for us. I'll pay a little extra if need be, but don't leave us out in the cold!

You can print out the cards and the book from the Online site no problem.

As stated by Swarm, you can print out the cards from CoTG online. From what I understand from other posts I have read, it was either take aCe online or discontinue it. Given that choice, I think Tom, Kris, and company made the right choice. They were insightful enough to realize some people would be upset by this decision and offered the print features which I imagine you can have done at any Kinko's, Staples, etc. If you don't have the cardstock at home.

We're going to make printing the cards as easy as possible for everyone for this and any future online-only editions. Even I want a way to have the physical cards - I don't always want to play on the PC, and a lot of times I just like to sit down and look at the cards. So this is something that we really want people to be able to do if they want. The way I understand it, aCe just wasn't profitable enough to justify further print runs, so the choice came down to "no aCe" or "digital aCe only." Given the choice, I'll take the latter. Edit: Yeah, what Squire said. His post wasn't there when I started typing.

yeah, I think having them in a printable format is the best solution. Because what would you do if you don't have a laptop or a mobile computer with internet service, you couldn't play it when you were on the road or away from home! Having a tangible set is always a nice back up plan! Ray

Will you be able to print the new a.C.e. set in black & white?? Yes. But...you could always print out the colored pics if you have a color printer and use those.

Yes. But...you could always print out the colored pics if you have a color printer and use those. Agreed- but for those traditionalist who WANT the B&W, it'll be there.

I'm not sure I like this , and I'm sure I'm alone in the Universe on this. But the game I loved for over twenty years is becoming something completely different and how long before every edition is available on line only including the GWF and LOW. There's a gazillion online and video games , but how many table top games that have stood the test of time ?

I think that's a valid concern, but, to be honest, the way the game table is set up, it might as well be the table top game.... you still roll the dice, look up stuff on the charts, etc... there's not fancy animation or anything, just the great CoTG art (in COLOR) and the ratings.
I REALLY balked at playing on Desktop at first, but it has really grown on me... its just like playing Spades or Chess on-line.. the on-lineness is more a time saver than anytthing.
The big thing I'm excited to see is that, with Online, you can see guys change slowly with Character Progression... a guy can get a little better each year for 3 years instead of suddenly going from a mid carders to a main eventer... guys that go from singles to tag can have the cards tweaked... guys that turn heel/face can have a logical move set to go with the turn without it using up a card....
That the best part of all this, imo.
As long as the card can be printed if we're so inclined, I think this is actually a great distribution method.. without printing costs, CoTG can try a lot more new things without as much financial risk, which is a very good thing.

I hate to say this because I think sometimes that I am the most loyal promoter of them all but if the game went strictly online that would hurt my heart. I don't want to say I would stop playing but it would be hard...
I'm all for the online thing and it's great for business but faster/easier isn't always better.
Plus there is a lot to be said for sitting down with cards and dice AWAY from things like TV screens and computer screens...
I love my cards. I love my dice. That's just the way it is.

Believe me, Tom is on the same wave length as you when it comes to preserving the table top game element. Anytime someone has asked him about it when I have been around, he comments how even after Strat-O-Matic baseball went to a computer version, that they have still always produced the card versions every year. He wants the same thing for the GWF, and there are no plans what so ever to change that.

The thing that I like most about COTGonline is the chance for feds like aCe and CPC, which maybe couldn't have continued on paper because of costs, to live on. Like I've said before, I'd rather have them on COTGonline and print them out than not have them at all. It makes me a happy BDS.

I'm sure we'll be seeing more non-GWF type projects because of the ease and cost of Online as well. I'm definately going to print out my cards and do a lot of the playing the old fashioned way but I'm more likely to share my results through online. Plus, it gives me the chance to kick Swarm's butt before Galacticon.
