I mentioned it in the board tournament thread, jokingly saying I'd buy aCe to participate, but this is for real.
I'm in 2101 in the GWF world, and I have every set since New Beginnings...Problem is, I'm fairly bored with 2101, and at the same time I don't really care for how things have progressed in the newer eras. I don't like how midcarders can give the elite from 2087 a fight, don't like the evolution of movesets, and bunch of little things that just...take away from it for me, so I haven't played much of that.
I've thought about investing in aCe for awhile due to how reportedly different it is. Truth is, I want things that'll shake up not only how the card plays, but how I'LL play. I have the Godsend SE, so I guess I got a bit of a sample with that but how different is aCe compared to the GWF and LOW stuff? Will it radically change how I'll play by giving me new option, rules, stats and things to play with?
I felt like New Beginnings was just the GWF all over again with super stats, and I felt like LOW was just the system with real wrestlers...Will aCe be really different while still maintaining the system? That's what I'd like...I wanna feel like I'm doing something totally different and cool again, not just the status quo.
Hope this post made any sense, it's one am.

Mechanically, there's a lot of new stuff in aCe. It's kind of like a playground for new card mechanics. There are wrestlers whose moves are weaker against certain races. For example, Noxious' finisher is a roll finisher, but it's only an add 1 move against Ravagers, since they're immune to the Plague. Other wrestlers get stronger against other races. For example, Shepard's got a good card as it is, with a roll finisher. But against the undead, he gets an add 1 on level one, a finisher on level two and his roll finisher becomes a normal finisher at its highest possible level. There's other stuff in there, too. Paganax has a high pin rating that goes down as other Tribesmen get hurt. Flatliner's finisher hurts himself - a lot. Sycophant gets finishers on all three levels of offense once he's bleeding. Champions get improved a little as they're empowered by the Essence the belts are made from, and there's an a home-field advantage depending on the arena you're in. So yeah, it's quite a bit different. It's still the same COTG you know and love, so you don't have to learn a new system or anything, but Kris and Tom really have gone all-out so far in tweaking it with new and experimental mechanics. If that's what you're looking for, then you won't be disappointed. Larry done. Back to sleepies now.

I'd say that aCe is the most 'progressive' of the game editions. As BDS said, Kris and Tom have all sorts of unique card mechanics that give almost every wrestler a unique feel (and the rare card that doesn't have such mechanics stands out- see Avarice).
Storyline-wise, it is different as well. The CPC is old-school, NWA-style booking, the GWF is more cosmic, while Kris takes things to the edge with a lot of Undead and a horror/sci fi tilt.
I'd HIGHLY recommend getting into aCe. Pick up the cards now, and then decide if you want to start your fed right up or if you want to wait until you "get there" in COTG years.
I'd also stick to your 2101 fed. As the Megatournament winds down, the CPC years really throw some life into things. The roster is exceptionally large, but I'm guessing that you can manage it. I didn't play as much during the 2098-2111 years (do to real life, not because of the quality of the product) and I regretted it so much that I plan on re-running that era after I've caught up from Early Classics, and I never have been a proponent of 'rebooting' my fed.

Here's what I like about aCe : 1) Small fed, but not so small to be boring... I think the 25-30 roster range is the best. 2) lots of unique mechanics (I won't repeat what others have described) 3) (and most important) Great story.. you really get the feel you know the characters by going through the booklets. I find with the current GWF, there are guys I feel like are just there, with little purpose. In aCe EVERY wrestler has a purpose, a story, and a logical feud. Some things you may not like, so you can weight the bad with the good: 1) Assuming you'd be getting the "storm the aCe" set, there are a couple guys that you'll have updates for, but not the original card, which is called for in the book (Godsend, Corp. Tek/Tekaro and Ventross are like this) Two of the three have siginifgant enough differences that I changed the cards a bit at first 2) As a result of the story being very detailed and in depth, I would think it would be pretty tricky to deviate much from the written story. (Which is fine with me ,but some people like to do their own thing.) 3) there is the possibility that the next set will be the last Hope that helps :0 (and that you buy it, so we have more of a chance of getting more guys beyond the next set) Edit: I just noticed, this is my 1000th post woo hoo! That's totally a sign you should buy it
