The Bounty Hunter is a really good Main event/upper midcard guy. He was always a favorite of mine.
The managers all make decent "jobber" characters, especially Reynard B Guille.
It's a great set.

Really, one of the best sets ever imo...
Not only The Bounty Hunter and the introduction of managers and valets, but GALACTIC PUNISHER, MAD JESTER, TONGSOON, and EARTHQUAKE!
All four guys are just awesome. 2089 is one of the games best sets, and the first to really start developing each and every character in the handbook.
A must have for any COTG fan.

ty guys...hopefully the newbies in this set will make a better impression then my 2088 guys...Bishop Hell was built to be the next big push but flopped when the main events were played out.....Man-Mountain and Adam Blast are languishing in the tag team circuit...The ANi-men have had some success but havent won a title...Splatter won my Ironman Tournament but lost to Blade in a best of 7 series and wont be getting a title shot...oh well its all bout the roll of the dice

Steel, some of the reasons may be is, if you are mixing and matching newer guys with older (I see you mentioned Blade), the older one's may be at a disadvantage due to new and improved game mechanics over the years...
be careful with that...
peace.

The Blade i have is a bootler I made before I knew there was one from another set. I just think its the roll of dice IMO.since i only have the2087-2088 sets.

2088 is a pretty weak set, especially when compared to some of the other sets that followed it (even though it had Bishop Hell and Spike, who rock). That said, however, you will see the sets get better and better with 2089, 2090, and then the grandaddy of all... 2091.
Be psyched.

Spike has had an ok run for me...tag teams with Brute as Damage,Inc. and part of the Disciples of Destruction (D.O.D) along with Brute, Renegade and Eddie Guerrero...but again no titles...

2089 is a great set. The Bounty Hunter had the most individual success in my GWF as he accumulated a total of :
1 Galactic Championship reign, 3 InterPlanetary Champions reigns, 1 Heavy Metal Championship reign,

hey guys...I'm about to purchase the 2089 set and was curious about everyone's assessment of it.(i.e. best wrestlers, jobbers etc.) any input would be appreciated ;D Steelthunder...below is a peak at Lord Rahl's Character Ratings for 2089. Measuring the incoming roster against the 2087 and 2088 stats may give you ideas about where the new guys stand on paper and help you plan out how you'll introduce them early on: 2089 Roster The Galactic Punisher 40 (43) Bounty Hunter 38(40) The Mad Jester 30 (40) Tongsoon of Cygnus 28(31) EarthQuake 18 (39) Trainer Jim -22(-16) The Royal Overlord -25(-21) Reynard B. Guile -28 (-16)In my GWF...2089 was the last year of the 'Thantos Golden Age of Dominance'. The set really helped to flesh out my mid to upper card with some great feuds, sweet tag combos along with managers and valets that brought new dimensions to the official storylines. Here are some random thoughts on the roster: * TGP is an impact player who should be competitive with the top tier from the first two years. He always reminded of an in his prime Sgt. Slaughter type. Great brawler and a potential champion * Bounty Hunter is definitely headliner material. He was also one half of one of my favorite GWF Feuds of All Time...a potential rookie of the year candidate * Tongsoon and Mad Jester are solid utility players who should prove to be threats in both singles and tag competition * Earthquake brings Massif a credible presence on the tag scene * TJ, Overlord & Guile are all colorful characters who play 'background' roles. It's a great thing that not everyone in COTG is made out to be a prime time 'star'. Finding ways to make these three relevant will be a fun creative challenge to your skills as a booker * Solaris, Amazonia, Sweet Thing & Darkos don't wrestle...yet they introduce 'distractor ratings' into the mix...a core game play element * The Aethran Ultimate Escape match brought the Aethran/Animen blood feud to a new level of brutality! Have fun with this one ST...great times ahead!
LWPD (who remembers over the years having switched the persona of the hapless Trainer Jim from a Rocky Balboa spirited 'Mickey' tough SOB type...to a Mr. Magoo curmudgeon comedy character)

ah yes, forgot about the Galactic Punisher.
In my fed, Thantos completely OWNED Star Warrior in 2088. And considering the fact that I was playing 100 cards per year in the early years, it got kind of frustrating to see Star Warrior lose time and time again to Thantos. So I had him go crazy at the end/beginning of 2088/2089. He started attacking random faces, and getting into matches with them. Omega was very displeased with his son, so he eventually brought in the Galactic Punisher to "punish" his son.
It was awesome.
Tongsoon isn't much, but I always liked him. I thought of him as a very young and green Goldberg, back when Goldberg was still having his way with Al Greene every WCW Saturday Night program.

I goofed....Spike was 1/2 of the Universal tag team champs with Brute...but hishalf was given to him after Thantos vacated and Brute was allowed to choose a partner...Spike seems to have been the most successful of he class of 2088
