I just finished reading the companion book to aCe 2119. As many of you may know, I haven't followed a COTG storyline format for years. Consequently, I usually read these books to find out finishers and other bits of info.
That said, I have to say that if this game edition were a movie or television series, I would be glued to the screen! The story is so engrossing, combining action, horror and eerie twists to set up this amazing new federation. The book reads like something from survival horror, action anime and sci-fi, and it's all blended well here. There have been dark episodes in the GWF history, but this edition makes you feel like you've entered a wrestling wasteland in which everyone is at war with everyone else, and title belts are secondary to survival. I really like this concept.
I can't say enough about the cards. Shepard is already a favorite, and Jakyll, Flatliner and Scorch are plain awesome. I mentioned in an earlier post that Paganax's pin rating would greatly hurt his chances to make an impact. The little twist on his power (he feeds off others' damage) actually makes him pretty formidable.
I'm going on and on about this set because, frankly, I haven't been this thoroughly pleased with ANYTHING in a long, long while. As a videogamer, comic buyer, toy collector and ccg fan, there have been very few sequels, add-ons, or expansions that live up to the standard set here. This game edition makes me remeber the excitement I felt upon receiving and playing my first ever edition of COTG, and I actually planned on not ordering aCe 2119.
I'm sure I sound like one great big boring ad already. So be it. You owe it to yourself and the life of your fed(s) to include this LANDMARK edition to your collection. I've been toying with the idea of stepping away from COTG (due issues of time and money), but if this is the new standard, I'll give up videogaming or comics to stay onboard. What a great set. Should anyone care, I'll have fully colored cards posted on my site sometime tomorrow.
