Well the ppv is right around the corner and I thought I'd make a thread that was free of transvestite pictures. Call me silly it's a mma Forum.
Hell despite some of the downer remarks rolling around on "How this isn't going to get my money" I'm excited for Saturday.
That is just one more request to go with this thread. Please it's for those who are getting the card and wanna talk about UFC 80. You know stay on topic.
Personally I'm starved for mma event so lets start at the beginning.
Werdum and Gonzaga, I can't stress this enough, this fight is likely to be the future of the heavy weight division. I'm picking Gonzaga, he's impressed me. I'm aware of the past between the two and I'm curious to see how the two have grown in the stand up and how much of an edge Werdum has over Gonzaga on the ground.
Now that being said.. the fight might be borring. Gonzaga hasn't always had great fights you'd want to tape. Werdum's last fight in the ufc wasn't exactly one for the top ten of the year.... still I'd normally be happy to see either fighter in the ring and I get both at the same time.
Penn vs Joe
I think Penn's over rated. We could argue all day with the depth of the light weight division they could picked two better guys to go at the belt but they also could picked much worse.
I'm probably picking the wrong fight to prove a point about BJ penn.. He just sorta reminds me of Vitor a little bit. He's had some very nice peeks in his career and he's failed to fallow up on those. It's penn's fight to lose and I think he'll find a way.
Marcus Davis (aka the Killer of C level fighters) is back again. I've grown to enjoy his fights. I'm really wondering what their building him up for though? Sadly I don't recall the other guy.
I wonder if a new star will be born?
Sleeper hit of the night Wilson Gouveia vs Jason Lambert.
Both of these guys are fairly close to reaching top ten and I'm jumping the gun here but I'd have to say this would open up a slot for one of the two at the bottom of the list.
I'm going to go out on a limb and pick Wilson. It's practically a coin flip.
Kendall Grove is back and facing washed up Jorge Rivera. I guess it's a nice filler fight. I've never hated watching Kendall fight so I guess I'll pick him. I've seen some dull Jorge fights.
(see Denis Hallman).
Their's a few fights i'm going to skip but another name you should keep an eye out for is James Lee who gave a huge upset in his one fight in Pride (Travis wuiff? I forget the spelling).
I have no remaining respect for Alessio Sakara. He's failed to live up to any expectation and I kinda wonder why he still has a job UFC. For the love of God Lee WIN! Brake the Pride Curse and ufc cage shock! Pleaseeee! Heh sorry.
Sam Stout returns, I recall his fight with Fisher and I'm pleased to see him on the card. Thoughts?
